53mpg from the V6 twin-turbo Jag, when Clarkson wasn't even trying to drive economically for most of the trip ... that's pretty impressive. As was 60+mpg from the Subaru! Read more

I doubt 70mph even in a Jag demands 150 hp:) More like 35.

I don't want to identify the make or dealership as I want to give them an opportunity to deal with this amicably hopefully!

last month I bought a six month old car that had been owned by the dealership since new. The engine has been upgraded this year, and this vehicle was clearly advertised as having the spec of the updated model, i.e. more efficient, lower emissions. My order lists the tax band as being the updated spec.... Read more

It needs to go back or you need a financial settlement. A financial settlement would be very difficult to calculate because there are a number of factors - lower value, more costly to keep and run - plus the imponderable of how long you are going to keep the vehicle.

My feeling is you need to get agreement to return with a reasonable discount for the mileage you have done and then either renegotiate for the car as it is - or alternatively you get a later model.

The later model route is probably the one to go if one is available as dealers tend to be more accommodating if this is an option rather than having to refund.

It sounds as if you are currently happy to handle this yourself but if you feel you would benefit from legal assistance or additional legal clout in the negotiations I will normally run cases like this on a no-win-no-fee basis whereby you only pay us an amount we quote beforehand if we reach a pre-agreed outcome.

You are aware of our costs at all times and only receive a bill from us if we reach the result we have agreed with you.

I would like to mount Daytime Running Lights onto my civic reason for this i do alot of motorway driving at work (in a company vehicle) and cars fitted with DRL's i see mainly Audi's and Mercede's they stand out not in a chavy way you know they are there if that makes sense which on a motorway is all good in my book. Anyway does anyone know of anyone or links to photo's of DRL treated civic's or could anyone assist me in idea's of where to mount them on the front of a civic.

Really appreciate any idea's... Read more

Sorry Grease_monkey, I would have you down as a chav if I saw aftermarket LEDs on a Civic bearing down on me on the motorway!

I think Audi and Mercedes as "aspirational" brands have a lot to answer for in this respect and I've seen plenty of drivers of these marques use the DRLs to provide extra "presence" as they drive inches off the rear bumper of the car in front....

i bought a car from a dealer on 29/10/10 they told me it had a 7month MOT... Read more

You are talking about a two week difference - so even if you are right we are presumably talking about the difference between a 7 month MOT and a 6 1/2 month MOT. This would be pushing "not as described" to its boundaries if it ever got to court.

Is there some other reason why you are trying to reject the vehicle?

Hi guys, I am having a problem with the electrics on my 99 Focus estate. On Friday the dashboard light and the rear lights stopped working, after Googling the problem most said it was the light switch, so I changed this but still had the same problem.I put the old switch back in changed the 10 amp fuse but it blew straight away, more than once. But today after checking the loom to the rear lights I unplugged the large Grey connector put a fuse in and all the lights were ok, inc. Fog,reverse, indicators etc........

But soon as I plugged in the large grey one the fuse blew again, I tried this multiple times and each with the same result. So my question is, what is this connector for? as everything seems to work. I have posted a link to photobucket showing a picture of this connector, any help would be much appreciated.... Read more

After changing glow plugs, air, oil, fuel filters and oil the car ran soooo much better. The following day the aux belt came off there was total loss of power. I have replaced the aux belt but I still cannot start the car. It turns over ok but dont catch. I had it idle once but there was no power. Could this be the cambelt gone? If so, how do I check?

thanks all. Read more

Peter.N.

Blue smoke and difficult starting sounds as though the cambelt has jumped a tooth and retarded the timing, it needs checking anyway. It shouldn't have done any damage, probably just jumped one tooth. If a new belt is due, now's the time to fit it.

I've always found fewer cars for sale privately in winter, particularly in December. Adtrader and Autotrader are always much thinner this time of year. The weather is usually cold and it gets dark early, so not a good idea to view in the evening nor particularly pleasant at weekends. I've been having a discussion with friends who believe December is the best time to buy and sell.

I'd like to find out what others think about this. Read more
