My Mondeo estate has started to do a strange thing. It releases the tailgate whenever you start the engine. So, once the engine is running you have to get out and shut the tailgate. Then it stays shut for that journey. There is a way around this which is to lock the doors from the inside before turning the key and this prevents the tailgate from opening so it's no big deal yet anyway.
I suspect a bewitched microswitch in the tailgate locking mechanism. Any other theories ?

I had low battery voltage warning, measured at 10volts.... Read more
If you were monitering the voltage while driving it shouldn't drop much below 14v all the while the engine is running, if it is you either have a faulty alternator regulator or the drive belt is slipping.
i recently bought a pug 307 sw the anti pollution light was allready on , my husband has bought the fluid he needs but is unaware how to refill him self there was no instructions on how to refill also he does not understand what he needs to do with the plastic pipes that came with it can you please help

this fluid will need to be added at a garage as the management system has to reset and often the bottle and sensors need cleaning first before the additive as added and the system re-calibrated.
You will need to find an indy that has the equipment to " do the fuel addative system "
The more I read about Mondeo TDCi the more it seems that they are not very relaible and have many inherant faults that are expensive to fix. I have had a 20V 1.8 Passat for the last 11 years which has given me pretty trouble free motoring at virtually no cost (I do all my own servicing) but it now needs more money spending on it than is worth spending. My questions are then this. Which is going to be the most reliable and cheapest to run in the long term:
New shape Passat Tdi (around 06)
Mondeo Mk3 TDCi (05-06 era)
New Shape Mondeo Tdci140 (07)
Originally I was looking to spend around £4k on the Mondeo but am now thinking it might be going to around £6k which will buy me either of the other 2 (at around trade price)

Bit of an update.
Discovered yesterday on way home that it wasn't totally dead. The heater does work, I just hadn't realised that I'd need to press the button for face level airflow to open the channels and give it some time for the warm air to waft through without blower assistance....
have a funny noise immediately after turning key to switch on engine. happens when car is cold and is first started not when already warmed up. sounds like a buzz as if have turned the key too far and not a whining noise like other posts reported. only lasts seconds and the car runs as normal. possibly starter motor? anybody any ideas? thanks Read more
The only thing I can think of is dry starter motor bearings, but that usually give a descending screech as the motor slows down and I have'nt heard that in a long while.
I'm considering buying a new car in the next few months and want to know the best time to buy. I really want to order the car around the end of December or early January. I know the best time to buy is usually at the end of the month but is this still true in December? I suspect that nobody will want to buy a car at this time and the salesmen will have no chance of reaching their targets. On the other hand they may want to get every sale they can.
I'm tempted to say I want to buy at the end of December but I'll buy 'now' (it will be early December) if they can offer me a good deal. This may be a good way to squeeze more discount out of them.... Read more
Not strictly true about the VAT. I will still pay 20% VAT even if I purchase now. The VAT rate depends on when I take delivery, not when I order the car. So VAT will be exactly the same whenever I pay.

My father investigated the problem by kicking hell out of the tailgate lid after this had happened for over 6 months.
I fiited a second hand tailgate locking motor for him, and this fixed the problem!
