Hi,

I have been actively follwing this forum since 2004.

I have noticed in the last year or so it does not seem to be as popular as it once was and many of the "old timers" (cant remember the names now) are not around.

Is this just me or have things really changed...and if so why?

PS .dont delete this thread. Its not a swipe aimed at anyone but just a constructive open debate.

Thanks

They have gone elsewhere, I think it all happened last year. I only found out when I received an invitation to the new playground, which came as a surprise to me.

Some people have moved onto another forum - which appears to be more active than Honest John. Some, as I do, use both forums.

I talked about this to my wife yesterday a lot of familiar names have gone.I hope this has nothing to do with spelling or sniping or belittle each other.I was upset a few weeks ago I know I made a silly comment and even dafter i started to rant back to the people involved. There are some smashing people on this forum hepfull considerate and caring.I hope injection doc wont leave us and he is owned a big apology. The chap who made the remark is intelligent and i have read a few of his posting. It is a bit like a pub we have to learn to accept each other with our faults and good points.I am man enough to apologise to anybody if i make a mistake or a silly comment but we must be entitled to our point of few. What happened to oilrag and some of the other names i cant remember?.And it is nice to know each others background what we have done in the past and present what makes us tick.

i think you'll find the problem lies with HJ just shutting down the forum and expecting people to just sit and wait while he got his act together.

I googled Glaikit Wee Scunner and found where elsewhere is where the others have run away to.

We arent hiding. I just found it was the people, not the location that I liked.

I'm on both sites but I believe that some people are only on the new site and won't return. That's their choice but I like to read all opinions on both sites (as well as manufacturer specific sites such as UK legacy site).

All I will see is google some of the well known users from pre feb 2010 on HJ!

Most of the old regulars moved on when this site was down waiting for it to be relaunched. As an ex-mod I pop in every now and then but as said above it's the people chatting most of us liked so moved on.

Easily found now it's on Google.

A little clue, get when an engine starts to rattle badly and and the engine blows up. What comes out of the exhaust?

Just found the other site, there is even a thread on there about the thread on here asking why the forum has gone dead. I love Google :)

I'm afraid this forum will most likely never recover, forums are very hard to get going and once they die they dont recover.

So now that I know where everyone went, its time to say goodbye to the HJ forum.

To be honest, I started to lose interest in this forum after being banned for doing something which I thought was rather funny, but it made a mod look a bit silly and they are the ones with the power to ban.....

That is why most of us left. Since being on the new site I have never needed any moderation to any of my posts as far as aware. On HJ I was being told off nearly every day or something.

That is not to say there are no rules on the other site. They are lots but it mostly pure common sense.

Have to agree - people were/are being moderated for the most trivial of things. I'm wondering how long before this thread gets the chop. Ironic that the most popular thread in ages on here as the one about why no one comes here any more....

Looking at the elsewhere forum, it looks like the moderators are the same ones who were on here before the shutdown and rebirth of this site under new management team. If they are lenient over there it must be that their site owner takes a different approach to moderation than on here.

Just to add - I first signed up this forum in 2003 - times flies eh? There have been some great people on here over the years, shame they have all moved on.
Forum Popularity - Has it gone downhill - oldtoffee

I've moved away but dip back in here now and again. A few years ago the quality of the posts from a bunch on here was was quite outstanding, hugely informative and very entertaining. Those people have gone from here, some have moved across to the dark side and some have just disappeared without so much as a by your leave! The moderation here was too much for me and the incessant pop ups and commercialisation finally did for me. Still a decent site, loads of info but no longer a community site - IMHO!

Some of the old members on here left (e.g. screwloose who was excellent in the tech forum( because of the site performance due to pop-ups and adverts.

No doubt the mods will edit/hide this thread soon. When they look in. The old mods from here (now on the other site) used to look in a lot more often.

I have come back on again, somebody mentioned about having a chat which I like. Why is this stopped? I was asking last night a chap about his background he knows a lot about VAG diesel engines and all I wanted was a chat. One of the mods came on after me and elaborated about all kind of engines making me feel a bit daft. What is the point a lot of people wont come on because i think they are wary. When I first joined this forum we had a bid of a joke about the german language when somebody mentioned ausf***h which is funny in the english language, next minute a mod came on jakking on about not having funny jokes in german.I am dutch if anybody calls me cheeseface or a finger in the dyke so what.I remember at BP we got similair situations us and them which a lot of that attitude disappeared years ago on the continent .The bloke who wears a pair of overalls in countrys like Germany is king. Here in the UK the bloke who wears the suit is the master thats why we have gone so far backwards this stupid class distinction which gets on my nerves .Sorry if iam banned from this forum so be it i have got plenty of good books to read..

I don't think you're banned Dutchie!

You are known affectionately as Cloggie to most lorry drivers, and I hope that doesn't offend as it certainly isn't meant to.

When I've been at work I've always used that term to describe a Dutch lorry driver as do all of my colleagues but I've never had the chance to ask whether it is offensive to a Dutchman or not.

When I was parked up overnight it was always a bonus to be next door to a Dutch lorry because the driver would be happy to chat and perhaps share a meal together, often sharing photo's of family back home and it made the time away from home go by quicker.
