I was driving my brother’s car, he got full insurance and I am on his insurance as a Named Driver.
Police stopped me because their computer showing no insurance on the car, (Cars was insured and I was Insured to Drive), It was Sunday and I couldn’t speak to my insurance company to prove I am insured, so I was issued a Fixed Penalty Notice, they asked me to produce driver’s licence for endorsement (6 Points),... As in it occurs to me.

Strangly enough "training" oneself on differing machinery & equipment is quite remarkable, the human brain ( in most instances) being able to subconiscley ( Erm spelling) remember the different permutions of hand and foot controls required, as soon as one puts ones bum in the seat...... plently of drill & practise & repitition required there though.
I once drove a BX that jumped out of 5th, I developed the "knack" of sensing when this would happen ,( without ever figgering out how) clutching and popping her back into gear, all automatically, the occasional passenger looked a bit puzzled bytimes.
My CRV has a 4WD capability classed as intelligent. It decides for itself when to engage 4WD when either one or both front wheels lose traction. It then cuts out when the throttle is eased to regain front wheel drive and steering. If on ice, it can happen that the front wheels lose grip and the 4WD propells the car in a straight line. On grass, towing a caravan, if a front wheel slips, it tears up the grass, not to the amusement of the site owner.

The temperature dial on my '04 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi will not go any higher than mid-temperature after having been on cold for the whole summer.
The temperature of the air still changes as I increase from cold to medium. I have taken the fascia off and found nothing amiss at that end. Also had a nose around at the pivot point just to the left of the clutch pedal where the cable from the dial pulls a bit of plastic which pushes a bit of metal which pushes another bit of plastic, nothing broken or stuck there.
Any suggestions are welcome.

It's actually the cabin temperature. It feels as if something has become jammed, possibly in the heater matrix, but I don't know if it is accessible behind the bulkhead. Thanks
Hello I am new to this but feel I need to get some advice. I have recently returned from holiday in Victoria Australia and have now received a traffic infringement notice for alledgedly travelling at 57mph in a 50 mph area. in a hire car. I do not beleive I was speeding over this limit so my questions are what can I do about it,And they expect me to pay $239 which is about £ 145.00 and they mention 3 de-merit points. What should I do and why is the fine so much and can they put points on my UK licence.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Read more
Unless you are a frequent visito to Australia the points will obviously make no difference to yo holding a UK licence. Likewise the penalty unless of course they deduct it from a credit card like previously mentioned. However, I suspect it was the Nephew who used a credit card who retrospectively have named you to be the driver at the time of the alleged offence simular to the obligation under S.172 of RTA here. Therefore, he have offloaded the burden and it would be down to thier authorities to write to yourself with the alleged offence.
If they follow up by writing to you I would be writing back asking for evidence to support the alleged offence in case of future visits to Oz etc.
anyone had any problems with all warning lights coming on intermittently. ESP stays on longer than rest but then goes out. Local dealers cannot find fault as yet. Read more
A few weeks ago I posted about the broken cambelt on my 1997 AstraVan (GM engine X17DTL). It was the second time the belt had snapped but this time I was lucky to get away with just a few broken rockers and no valve damage.
On both occasions the cambelt had worn down to half its original width before snapping. I initially thought that the belt was catching on the plastic cam cover which was broken & flapping about so removed the cam cover completely and fitted a new belt, tensioner & plastic idle pulley but again something is causing the cambelt to drift to the edge of the sprockets and wear away.
I've left the cam cover removed and can see that the new belt is also slowly been eaten away on the edge but don’t know what is causing it to drift to one side.... Read more
It sounds like the wheels the belt runs on are out of alignment. That is one of them is further out or further in than the others.
Hi i'm a new member on the site and was hoping for some advice relating to an insurance claim. Here goes.....
Last December (2009), my girlfriend has a small accident while pulling out from a junction. Our car made contact with the side of an oncoming vehicle. We exchanged insurance info, etc, and on inspection, the damage to our car was minor - cracked head light and paint scraped in front bumper. During the accident there was no real impact, we just heard the sound of the scrape and that was it.... Read more
If your insurer believes the claim is not valid then they can oppose it but the action nominally remains between the two people involved (ie they are the named parties) with their insurers subrogated to pay out if the case is lost.
Thus if your insurer disputes the claim then everything will be served on you but you need to pass it on to your insurer if it is a fault case....
My car has just been with a nation wide company for a service. Got a call that front discs were below minimum and brake pads 65% worn and they could replace if I gave them the go ahead (£176). I said I would leave it thanks and took it to another garage. They said the discs were well withing spec and the pads had over 50% meat left. Is this type of scam a criminal offence? Read more
I once took my car to a "nation wide" company, if I get your drift. Took it for an exhaust back box, was young and naive. They battered the cat with a hammer and told me I needed a new one. I wasn't that stupid so I watched while he replaced the back box.
They still kept telling me I needed a new cat so I let them get one in, what a bunch of criminals....
My verison of the temp gauge problem is: temp needle goes to 90 when I start. There is no issue when I travel below 45-50mph. When I get on a dual carriage way and go over 60mph, the temp needle seems to rise in parallel with the speedometer needle and the warning light comes on. Although I am fairly sure this is a gauge fault, as the water level in the engine is fine, I still have to slow down as I am not confident driving when the warning lights are flashing at me! When I slow down to belwo 50mph the temp needle drops to normal again. I have had the switch replaced but the problem still exists - any suggestions for fixing this problem. Please help!!!

You were issued with a PROVISIONAL FPN because you did not have your Driving Licence with you.
You elected to produce the DL within 7 days at a Plod Station named. Under normal procedure production of the Licence which would have been surrended and the FPN made substantial giving you the opportunity of paying the £200 for No Insurance and collecting points....
