Hi there, recently the cd player stopped working in my car luckily (or so i thought) there was an almera in a local scrapyard and i got a replacement out of that. it is exactly the same stereo but unfortunately when i swapped it over and powered it up it doesn't work at all, it firstly shows "wait" on the lcd display then after a minute or so it changes to "secure" and that's all it does. does anyone know how to fix it? or what's even wrong with it?

Hi all long time no post!
I drive a 06 Boxster. Planning taking a year out to travel and need to save for 18 months. Need to get a car that will cause minimal expense over that period. Finance will be money borrowed from relative at 4% so cheap to borrow - a cheap car might not be the ideal solution if borrowing is that cheap.
Milage is 60 a day on urban streets and fast dual carriageway.
I need enough poke to not go mad so a 1.0 petrol is out but I don't need anything that fast. I was thinking the torque and economy of a small diesel, in a car that has depreciated enough to not lose too much more, but which is new enough to be reliable for my 15k a year. Not into bangernomics as need to drive something presentable for job - needs to be no older than 7-8.
I was thinking a 1.4 Yaris Diesel, at abou £4k on 2005, or Polo / Fiesta equivalent for about 1k more? Or clio? Air con is an absolute must
Don't like bigger or bland cars like Mondeo / vectra / Astra and would rather avoid these but not to the detriment of economy although saving on my insurance will be a big factor (currently best quote is £1.1k in my group 18 Porsche). Current fave is fiat 500 but depreciation prob too much.
Views welcome... Thanks in advance... Read more
Hmm anyone got a view on the Audi a2?
After discovering a loose refluctor ring on my left front wheel, the dealer shop wants to replace the ring with a new one for $120. He said it would be best to replace the half shaft with a new one that comes with a new refluctor ring already installed because it is easier to do and the warranty would be better in case of an accident. That would cost somewhere around $200. This is all a lot of money just to get my ABS light and Traction control light to stop flashing. This auto is never driven on ice or snow and I have never even had the ABS come on in all the time I've had the car. My question is, does anyone know of a way to 'glue' the refuctor ring to the drive shaft without replaceing the shaft?? The auto is in excellent condition and runs and looks like a new one and the brake system is all new. Read more
My car has been stationarey for a couple of months. The problem is, when I push the accelerator down slowly the rev's buld up to 4500rpm ok but, if I push the accelerator fairly quickly the rev's go up to 3000rpm and then fall down to 1500rpm. it sounds like the engine is hunting. On the road it's worse, top speed is 60mph until I hit an up slope then the speed drops down to 25mph. Any ideas, cheers, Dinger Read more

Last night at 8pm I went for a quick pint in a pub with my workmates, something I've done most Friday nights for the past 20 years.
I drove out of the car park about an hour later and became aware of a marked police car following behind me. A few minutes later the blue lights went on, I was pulled over and asked to take a breathylser test.... Read more
DVD has said most of this, but i'll post a bit more bluntly.
The Police can stop any driver at all, at any time, to check to see if they have a driving licence or insurance....
Hi silly question for some but i am going to do my own service on our 2007 peugeot partner 1.6 hdi, just wanted to know the location of the fuel filter as the one i bought is quite big but i cannot see it on the car anywhere?. Also do you need a special spanner for the sump nut on these or is it just a straight forward socket, thanks in advance.. Read more
I appreciate your emphasis on the ease and accessibility of the 20p test. With just a simple coin and a few minutes, drivers can perform basket random testing on their own without needing any tools or expertise. By encouraging drivers to take the test, you are promoting proactive tire maintenance and ultimately contributing to road safety. Read more
hello there! I own a vw golf mk3 gti. 2.0 8v.
The problem occurs when the engine is warmed up, you can pretty much pinpoint when its going to happen, after about 15 mins of driving the car will cut out(at speed), and wont even fire up when you use the momentum to bump it. it just judders violently and cuts out anyway.... Read more
I had this same problem - AGG engine type - and it turned out to be the crank position sensor. I bought a cheap one off the internet first but this didn't work - so I bought a new one from VW and the car has run fine since. Your symptoms are pretty much the same as mine so I'd pretty much guarantee that's it.
The wiring on my original sensor looked & felt fine too so don't go by that alone - get the output checked if you don't want to swap it out without knowing. This will cost you £20-40 at an auto-electrician. ...
Probably needs the code inputing. It's 'secure' as an anti theft system -- when stolen it renders itself secure to stop the thief using it. Unless your code was written on the side in felt tip like most scrappies do, then you'll have to contact one of the many online firms who offer the code for a few quid when you give them the full serial number of the radio.
Hope this helps
