Thanks for your prompt reply. I know it stays in the same gear once the error light comes on, but I stop and restart and its fine after that. When the car is warmed up it is absolutely fine, no problems with the gears at all.

My hubby thought it might be the torque or seals, pressure problem- solinoid possibly?...

Hi, first time on site.A question for a toyota electronic guy perhaps. This vehicle is 2006 and when accelerating up hill deceided to go into get home mode, after displaying three lights on the dash. 1.engine 2. traction control and 3. stability control. The AA man arrived, the battery was disconnected and re-connected, and everything so far is OK. Question is- Do I have to pay £38 to go on the dealers computer, as I suspect any code will have been wiped, or can some clued-up guy inform me that this has occured before with this particular car? and offer a potential ststem of checks. many thanks, and this looks like a good site. fastfree. After two years niggle free motoring, my MX-5 has started to over-rev when started from cold. the revs surge to 2500 rpm before slowly settling down to its normal idle [8-900 rpm] as the car warms up. The problem doesn't occur when the car is started when warm. The supplying dealer claims this surge is 'normal' but I don't see how this can be so since it didn't happen in the first two years of the car's life.

Any ideas anyone?... Read more

Hi, would be usefull to know what engine and the year. If its an older model you could possibly try setting the base idle when warm. I found loads of useful info at www.miata.net and www.mx5ocforum.co.uk

The car is a 2000 polo sdi hatchback and I think that there is a leak somewhere in the ducting between the fan unit and the windscreen vents. Has anyone experienced this or more importantly can anyone tell me how to get at the ducting? I had a look from the passenger footwell and there appears to be very little space back there!

Please don't let this poor car into a Kwik Fit garage, especially for such major work!

I can only go on my own experiences although I am also influenced by Which?, but I wouldn't take my A4 there. My prior car (Ford Focus) had it's brakes rogered after getting tyres changed there and its alloy wheels always came out more scratched then they went in. I just got the feeling that they never took much care over what they were doing....

Sorry for the numpty question but I've just bought my first diesel motor, I haven'tgot myself a workshop manual yet, and I want to change the oil and filter before using it. My question is do diesels use a specific type of engine oil or will any regular motor engine oil do the job? It's a fairly high mileage motor (111,000) so I want to give it decent protection. The 1.9 is far better than the 2.5 this engine suffers from no end of head problems it was fitted to many Ivico vans and the xm whereas the 1.9 if properly treated will do a million miles without bother.

Had a little trouble with my car this weekend (Polo 2002)

One of the rear passenger door locks was giving me a bit of trouble over the last few weeks, it wouldn't always lock when I used the central locking. About 4 days ago, it just became stuck in the locked position and now the door won't open from the inside or the outside. ... Read more

yup, was parked on the flat. It rained again today and no more water came through...

The garage I normally go to said they'd have to remove the door panel, and they might have to break the panel to get it off... this sounded a bit dodgy to me, and so I was wondering if it might be better to go to a bodywork place instead... or should I just look for another garage? ...
