My parents coal effect fire had an electric motor sieze, ( the one that reflcet the flames upwards ). We aquired a replacement from dimplex and fiited, all the wiring was colour coded so easy to replace but the motor now runs in the other direction so the flame effect goes downwards ! weird or what ?
Could it be a defective motor ? or what could be wrong ?... Read more
I,ve just covered approx 3000 miles in my June 2010 reg car and have only today discovered the mystery behind why my speedo varies dramatically and drops to zero intermittently whilst driving. The fault has been discovered by the Hyundai dealer to be to do with the connection of the hands free Parrot Blue tooth phone kit - so whenever my phone is in use the speedo goes to zero. Question? would this be considered in my defence if I was caught speeding whilst the phone was in use and I could not read my exact speed.? Read more
Even using a handsfree phone in my opinion in todays density of traffic is dangerous.Only use in a emergency or switch the thing off. These phones seem to be ruling a lot of peoples lives the amount of people i see everyday having conversations on the mobile whilst walking and don't see where they going.!
My 6 year old Rover has suddenly developed this fault. When driving along a clicking noise comes from the glove box area and the car stops. The oil light flashes a few times and after a few minutes the car will restart. My . local garage checked it out and also an auto electrician, they both had the car for a few days. When they had it out on the road the car did stop , unfortunately when linked to the computers it didn't. Has anyone had the same problem and how did you overcome it. If anything the problem seems to occur when the engine is cold .. Regards Rene,, Read more

Why did they have to recover it if it was sitting on your driveway? Common sense would say they get local VX dealer to turn up with a new wheel and tyre and fit it on your driveway.
Does anybody know where I can get hold of a wiring diagram for a 1993 RHD Peugeot 306 diesel? Read more
Hi there,
Hopefully someone a little more experienced may be able to help, about 3 months ago my focus tdci began getting harder to start from cold but was ok when warm, this gradually declined to needing to turn over for 30-60 secs before it would fire up (crank speed seemed normal) and when it did fire a large cloud of white smoke would exit the exhaust, before running smoothly for the duration of the journey. it then started rough idleing when cold and would occasionally fail to get above 500rpm rendering the throttle pedal useless until it was a little warmer and would return to normal. My local garage have no idea and want to start changing random things on spec which i refuse to do. The self test mode shows no stored codes and there were no nasty knocking noises (DMF) prior to this fault occuring, If anyone has any suggestions i would be very grateful,... Read more
Hi all,
I'll shortly be switching jobs meaning that I'll need to go from Cambridgeshire to Bristol at the beginning and end of each week (until I move house at least) - I've been looking at public transport but it doesn't look ideal and I don't fancy trips through London or late night trains home after a week at the office - so I was wondering if there was any particular make/model of car that you would recommend that would be cheap to run, and also capable of making the 200 mile trip (each way) with minimal fuss? ... Thanks for this - I've been looking at this too; didn't want to go via the M25 (as you say rarely empty) so was thinking about a route along those lines - good to know that it's possible!

The motor turned out to be an Ac motor so to prevent anymore delay I mounted the motor on the wrong side of the fire. I had to make up a new support bracket & extra loom etc but it worked a treat and now the flames rise up the back of the fire instead of starting at the top and going down.
Sometimes I prefer finding a good solution to just a fix.
