hi all my P reg 1.4 8v ohc single point injection corsa refuses to start and i must stress i bought this car as a cat d stolen recovered off the blue cycle auction site which im sure many of you have heard of anyway i was given only the spare key but the ignition barrel and housing have been as good as destroyed . right i have wired the igition so the dash lights come on but the engine management light flashed constantly. again with a bit of technical wiring re-arangeing i have managed to achieve a steady engine management light but the fuel pump isn't working. i put some petrol directly into the carb and fired it up and it ran until petrol in the carb ran out so i no its not electrically immobilised (i think anyway) so i have bypassed the fuel pump and put it on a switch and it hums when turned on but she still refuses to fire up any ideas peeps pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaasse thanks in advance petrol heads hope to here from you soon cheers Read more
HI all,
I have just brought a 2001 Focus off a friend. It has a problem when you start it that it takes 5-10 seconds before it starts. Starter motor sounds normal whilst its cranking. Once it starts it runs smoothly and everything is fine. Just wondering if anyone has come across the same problem before? Read more
I have a 2002 2.0 HPi Exclusive which has failed to start showing an Anti-pollution fault, along with EPS/ABS failure.
Car uplifted by local dealers and they tell me that the diagnostics are showing a Cylinder Reference Sensor as being faulty.... Read more
I am buying a used car this week, I went to see it yesterday and like it. I noticed it has a scuffed bumper and one 3-4 inch scratch on one of the doors and lots of little scratches on the back bumper, I would like to eventually get the body-work restored and wonder if anyone has used the chipsaway guy for North Wales yet and if hes any good. I've seen a mixed bag of reports on the representatives some are poor and some do a professional job. Can anybody help please. Thanks Read more
Chips Away did a super job for £100 cash. Afew months on, and the car's fine - no evidence of the horrendous scratches.
That was Chips Away in Wirral - not far from Cymru Gogledd (as the crow flies)....
Help! Is there an adjustment on the Audi A5 electronic handbrake? When on holiday in Cornwall and stopping on steep hills the electronic handbrake would release but the car would roll backwards unless I rode the clutch and increased the revs. I have only had this car a few weeks and live in the Fens ie no hills. Is it the driver or the handbrake that needs adjusting? Awaiting your advice with thanks.

My neighbour has a very long and steep drive and recenly purchased an A5, I was just off out and I noticed him struggling, and stalling the car whilst he was trying to move the car up into his garage. I stopped and gave him the 'tutorial', once he grasped that his goal was to travel up into the garage, not just temp the handbrake to let go, he cracked the problem. Regards Peter
Help Please. At the car comes to the first stop at the end of a long(ish) drive at high speeds (60mph +) there is a noticeable smell of diesel in thecabin which then disappears once you are on the move again. The engine shows no signs of malfunction when the smell 'appears' however I'm worried that something isn't right. Does a 2004 (53) plate 2.0 TDCi 130 (6) have a dpf and would this be the beginning of an expensive failure? Any help much appreciated. Read more
If you can smell diesel then more than likely there is a leak ,for a start you need to check every place a leak can occur with the engine running.
What is the standard idle speed you would expect from this engine?
Mine is strange, some days it idles at 1100rpm, some days 750rpm, some days 800rpm some even at 500rpm.
its just i do a lot of motorway miles and the higher it idles the higher the revs at 70mph and the more fuel it uses.
i would like it to idle at 500rpm ALL the time as it does 135miles for £10 of diesel :)
thanks in advance Read more

The replacement engine has the same engine code (DHC) . It appears that the start relay will not energise because the ecu wont put the earth onthe coil, slaving an earth on then cranks the engine but it does not start. I have not checked spark or fuel yet but im not too familiar with ecu is there a programing conn or chip that i have to transfer to the new engine or should it work as engine codes are the same . I have no problem with conventional fault finding its just the ecu and imobiliser functions im not sure about cheers. Read more
Sounds like an immobiliser problem...
In yesterday's Telegraph HJ advocates fines for speeding with no points.
Sorry but they tried this in Holland during the 1980s; it didn't work because wealthy drivers who could easily afford the fines simply flouted the laws regardless.... Read more
You can pick up points for speeding in Poland but they only last a year, 24 have to be accumulated to earn a ban and the maximum for speeding is 10.
A fine might be OK for a first offence although a Speed Awareness course would be even better but something tougher is needed for subsequent offences, especially if committed shortly after the first....

now then I'm just wondering is it a diesel or petrol .if it is a diesel the problem points to at glow plugs . If its a petrol try a service ( plugs + leads + air + oil filters + oil change) this is a common cause of poor starting the service if you do it your self should cost you around £40 to £60 depending on were you purchase the service kit from . Hope this info works for you and was helpful . please drop me a quick email to smed706@googlemail.com and let me know the out come please yours hopefully . Neil in Hull .
