Coming home I stopped at a shop having driven 20+ miles. When I restarted the car a metallic rattle came from the engine bay before it fired and the alternator light came on. Some 5 miles later the heater controls pack in and just before I got home the electric power steering fails, also abs lights flashes occasionally.... Read more
so the new suzuki swift automatic is a 1.2
current/old model auto i have is 1.5 and perfectly enough power/umph for long journeys... Read more
I think you might find its an engine supplied by Fiat.
Thats the diesel not the 1.2 petrol. I think the Suzuki must be the best engine of its capacity on the market. More powerful and better MPG than even the Hyundai 1.2, european manufacturers can't get the balance of performace and Co2 levels of asian petrol engines.
On Fri 20th Aug whilst travelling to Devon on holiday 20 miles from our destination my gearbox went from perfect to a bag of bolts in my hand with no prior warning.
I got relayed to my destination, on Monday 23rd I got a local garage to inspect it and they said gearbox was completely broken 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th gears. After a few calls they said they could get an exchange box that day for £1025 & VAT or send my one away to be reconditioned for £995 & VAT.... Read more
Can someone please comment on this response I have recieved via e-mail. All help is greatly appreciated.
You have 3 or 4 possible routes to pursue that you can do at the same time:...

Is the gearbox OK when the engine is off. This could be a clutch problem. Regards Peter
Okay guys give me some feedback on this, please. I live in Japan so these cars would be import only over there.
I have narrowed my search to two cars, both Cubes.
This is the first one. It has pretty badly stained back seats and a large worn-through patch on the carpet in the back (you can see a bit in the pictures). It also has a scratched rear right mudguard, and someone has attempted to fill in some scratches over the wheel with a similar coloured but lumpy paint.
The upside is that it would be less than 400,000yen (3000 pounds) delivered and has MOT until October next year. MOT is every 2 years in Japan and costs roughly 1500 pounds.
To me the upholstery is very important, and it really fails on that count. It was fine to drive, made healthy noises etc. Tires would need replacing at the end of the MOT period.
Light yellow 2002 Cube
The second is just under 600,000 (4500 pounds) delivered. It's nicer, and has GPS, 20,000 less km on the clock, is 3 years newer and MOT until feb 2012
Dark Orange 2005 Cube
The catch is I'm buying with my woman. She wants the lesser of the two. I said I would pay the extra for the other one, but in the way women do she has explained how my money is actually our money (read: her money), and she needs a damn good reason why we should spend an extra 1,500 pounds.
Can you come up with any?
We're probably going to be driving it for at least a few more years. Read more
Hello skankfish,i think you are making the right choice buying the newer car.I would.I have never been to Japan.Good luck.
I have owned my car for a few months and it has been working Okay. I seldom have used the trip tronic side of the automatic gearbox. (But it works fine) Generally I just use normal auto driving and all gears have been and still work fine. ... Read more
My first check would be the exhaust heat shields. Regards Peter

Not wishing to knock the cops but apparently they are using convert bikers to catch speeders in some forces. They say on the program it is safer then having a marked vehicle trying to catch them... Read more
The police along with other agencies tell us this. People lose their licences and face getting sent to jail for doing this sort of speed on deserted motorways.
That's my point. Anyone in that situation needs to get a decent lawyer. If they are done just for speeding, then fair enough, they've broken the law. If they're done for dangerous driving and there is clear evidence of this from whatever the situation was, then fair enough. If they're done for dangerous driving, just because of the speed alone, then they are hard done by..because it cannot be so if others are permitted to do it.
The dumbing down of some of our systems is encouraging people and that includes the courts to think some of these things are automatically dreadful crimes..how can this be so? Biker gets jailed for 28 days for doing 120mph up a dual carriageway..then 15 minutes later a paramedic does the same speed up the same road on his bike and that's fine?...
Has anyone experienced this problem?
My Xtrail pulls to the right when I accelerate! As soon as I lift off the car straightens up. I have been to three independent garages who all tell me they cant find anything wrong!... Read more
Have seen this from a badly worn lower ball joint. But would have expected your independent garages to have spotted this.

assuming that this is a z19 dt/dth engine the alternators are failing for fun at the moment changed two last week but i have also seen the torsional damper fall apart and yet leave the belt still working but with loss of tension basically it needs checking,Regards TB
