Another problem...(having sorted the ignition ballast)
When braking esp at higher speeds, there's a definite shuddering. It's speed-variable (ie faster at higher speeds). I first noticed it pulling off a motorway, but now even at slower speeds I notice it - keeping the brake pedal depressed, you can feel the force applied change as the wheels rotate. ... Read more

I recently purchased a vw passat "S" reg. When I switch on the ignition the mileage panel on the odometer registers "Insp" for about 5 minutes. Apart from spending money on a service is there any way I can remove this instruction Read more
I think buyanycar.com's adverts are rather misleading. I wanted to get rid of my wife's Renault 5, old but in very good condition. There best offer was £50.00, however there is a £49.50 service charge, so I would have ended up with £5.00, if I was lucky.
The answer is that they are really only interested in buying fairly new cars.... Read more
The cars they buy problaby go to auction or where ever.Nice marketing on the tellly.Take it with a pinch of salt from a £1900 offer for your car and you selling for £4800 thats why they are in this business. The problem is that a lot of people can't cope with selling a car private.Strangers to arriving at your house. And a lot of car dealers arn't that over generous paying for a part exchance car. When it comes to money there are a lot of sharks out there.
Hi, we have a 307 on an 03 plate, HDi Rapier. On one of the passenger doors, the lock unit is not operating, leaving the door unlocked. Upon locking the car, the indicators are flashing about 11 times - but I do not know if this is an error code, and what it means. We have dismantled the door, changed the lock unit, but this has not worked. It is near-side, and know that the earth is common in the Passenger Footwell, inspected that, it is very good, and very dry. All other doors and tailgate lock OK. All connectors to the BSI appear good.
Not wanting to spend £120 on a replacement BSI yet, is there any advice anyone can provide please?... Read more

I purchased a used 2006 VW Golf MK4 GLS (2.0L gasoline, Canadian) from a VW dealer last month. Recently I've noticed there is a strange vibration in the pedals and shifter. The clutch starts to vibrate around 1200 RPM. The gas pedal starts around 1800 RPM. The shifter starts around 2200 RPM. They vibrate through the rest of the engine's RPM range. The vibrations occur in any gear, or even when the car is stationary and in neutral. They appear to only be dependant on engine RPM. ... Read more
I took it to the dealer and, of course, the mechanic "felt nothing unusual." I got the shop foreman to look at it, and he agreed it's not normal. They booked another appointment, and the tech gave the same diagnosis -- "vibrations confirmed, normal" This is not normal, the car didn't do this when I first bought it, and I wouldn't have bought it if it did!
Any ideas? Or, any suggestions on getting VW service to actually take me seriously? I'm at my wits end here.
Replace coils and spark plugs maybe?
sounds like misfire to me surely mechanic would pick up on that?

How interesting and hopeful in a way to see that a very nice, original 1966 Triumph Herald fetched good money and respect at the PX auction.
I wonder what it had been PX'd against? Just think - a few months ago, it could easily have been a victim of the sc***page nonsense and duly cubed for something like a Hyundai or whatever. Read more
I see your point Ricardo but a lot of people have been happy with the extra cash buying a new car.And hopefully more people kept in jobs. The Triumph looks nice and in good condition lets hope the new owner keeps the car running and polished.

I've been tempted to pack a burka under the seat for just such occassions!

It's on the steels. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get them balanced - but she's had new tyres since the new discs so they should have been re-balanced then.
