clio-a-gogo

Hope this helps someone, have a 2004 clio 1.2 16v which apart from a new clutch a few months ago has been faultless for its 82,000 mile life, serviced correctly by independant garage and started to run rough with engine light flashing on and off. Read all the posts about the ECU cover chomping through the loom and checked this, 1 wire bare but not cut, could have been sending to earth so not helpful ( really stupid cover design Renault a monkey could have forseen issues there !). Cleaned 3 relays behind headlight and all this made no difference at all :( . Started thinking Lambda, ECU, Crank Sensor, Loom , you know all those lovely things Renault would charge an arm and a leg for but stopped and went right back to basics, car starts fine with no engine light on, runs like a lumpy pig so going back the days before ECU's and Laptops I would have said H.T lead or maybe coil so checked out a part number with Europarts as the coil pack and leads are one unit and priced at £28.00 thought its worth a go before we get into Diagnostics mumbo jumbo where you pay and don't always get the correct answer ! Fitted coil pack in 10 mins and clio running perfectly so if you have the same issue its well worth a punt for £28.00 before spending loads of cash and a. being ripped off and b. not being told the truth. I did try a search but most postings seem to be over 2 years old. Has anyone had any recent experience with UKCarBroker?

A long story short i was supposed to receive delivery of a new car on Monday which never happened (apparently due to the parent company suspending fleet codes - whatever that means) - i now find myself in a position where i still don't have a car. The guy i spoke to there (Kevin) seems very helpful and says all the right things but i'm still getting no positive action on getting the car delivered.... Read more

He was right not to name and shame the dealer and leasing company. We have to be very careful on forums like this: although Jaso111 is clearly genuine the other side may have a different version to the story, and we could be in trouble.

Also we have to be careful not to upset anyone who might want to advertise with us: it's the revenue that keeps the forum going

I am considering paying a developer to create a VASCAR app for the iPhone/iPad, but this wouldnt be cost effective unless it sold a couple of thousand copies. It wont ever be a big moneyspinner, that's not the point - I just thought it would be fun!

I would be interested in the opinions of iPhone owning members as to whether they would in principle pay 59p (or 1$) for such an app. Bear in mind its not a negotiation - I cant do it for free, it's pay the minimum or I can't do it

(obviously this is just opinion canvassing - nobody is comitting to anything and no record of anyone's details will be kept - havent got time for that!)

The sort of thing I would envisage is

A user of the iPhone app would be travelling as a passenger in a car and would observe another
car passing at speed. The user would then tap large buttons on the screen for the events when:
target vehicle passes start point,
current vehicle passes start point,
target vehicle passes end
point, current vehicle passes end point.

While the measurement system is inactive (i.e. until a car whose
speed to measure comes by), the main screen can show a map to indicate the current position.
When the user taps a button “Target passed Start Point”, the system will enter measurement mode.

The results screen will immediately show the results of the measurements just taken.
eg,
• Time the target vehicle took (seconds).
• Distance travelled (in KM or miles).
• Calculated speed of target vehicle (Km/H or MPH).

The app could also be used by 'pre-measuring' a distance and then timing different vehicles over that distance. This could be done from a staionary point provided the user can see the start and end points. It could thus be used, for example, to determine the speed of a number of vehicles over a given track or course.

I have other ideas for refinements and so forth, but at this stage just want to do a bit of market research on it.

All sensible thoughts and comments welcome. Read more

somehow I think that boy racers are at the opposite end of the market to the one intended for this suspected "walter mitty" proposal!

No - dont put 2-stroke in for gawd's sake!

Put about 1 litre of golden syrup in to thicken the petrol and lubricate the fuel pump otherwise you'll knacker the turbo flange.

Question Fabia - Skoda
locostmike

A friend of mine has a 2002 Skoda Fabia 1.4 mpi with 85000 miles on it. It was used by her husband as a commpany car from new, he now has a new car. She mainly does short journeys with the occasional longer trip and the car is now developing a problem. When she slows for a junction etc, the engine often cuts out but restarts again instantly using the key. The electronic engine management light regularly comes on whether it stalls or not. Can you shed any light on what might be the problem? Read more

SWMBO and I saw an example of ABC last night on the road between Rainow and Kettleshume. There are two nice bends up on the tops, both are 40mph, the upper one easy and the lower less so. As we rounded the upper one a small white Citroen overtook us part way down the hill. That happens to us fairly often because I don’t like to go hell for leather down hills then brake for the bends. Generally the overtaking car has to brake heavily before the bend and when the road is wet it is dodgy, especially after a dry period. But, the road was dry. This time we rounded the bend to see the white Citroen at right angles to the road. I had to stop pretty sharply. The driver accelerated in reverse to the nearside verge, overcooked it and knocked down one of the chevron yellow and black signs. Hitting the sign stopped him on the edge of the drop into the field and then he turned and accelerated like a Formula 1 towards Kettlehulme. He must have been so embarrassed ! No need to hurry I told SWMBO, we’ll catch him up in the queue at the Whaley Bridge lights, and we did. Read more
