Saw one of those big Fords that come without a spare wheel at the side of the motorway with a shredded tyre, no way was an aerosol in the boot going to be much use to him, wonder how long the makers will get away without providing spares

I am thinking of upgrading from Microsoft Vista Home Premium to MS 7 Home Premium.

A question ot two:-... Read more

If you buy the upgrade package, then if you ever lose a disk in the future, or otherwise need to reinstall, you'll have to install vista and then upgrade again. If you buy the full package, which will still perform an upgrade if you wish, then you'll not face that problem.

You do not need to do anything techie, and you do not need to format any disk. It will run a check for you and tell you any software it doesn't think will run and any devices that will cease to function. You should pay attention at that point, since you need to understand if anything in there bothers you. Make sure you consider all those issues before proceeding....

Been looking for a good deal on 5litres of ACEA C1 5w30.

Heard Opie had a offer but they were gone by the time I heard about it. In the end, the best delivered price I got was £33 (+ a quick visit) to my dealer. I couldn't find a better deal from any website or motor factor (that's if they even had a C1 oil).... Read more

Does anyone know where I can obtain the 17" wheels my S4 handbook says I should use for winter tyres, but according to my Audi deale,r Audi refuses to import suitable steel 17" wheels into the UK.

Specialist winter tyre dealers tell me that due to the size of the brakes on an S4 I cannot just buy any old 17" wheels of the correct stud spacings. Read more

I have a 2004 Audi S4 cabriolet. I have after market wheels and regularly drive to Austria in winter for skiing. On the original 18" Avus wheels I have bridgestone winter tyres which I swap onto the car for the trip. You don't need 17" wheels to fit winter tyres, this refers to the clearance around the back of the wheel when fitting chains, not tyres - a problem which is avoided by using an alternative to chains called "Spikes Siders", these clamp onto the outside of the wheel and go over the the tyre without the need for going around the back of the wheel. They are a lot easier and faster to put on than chains. In anycase, the wheel size is does not refer to the use of winter tyres.

I have a 2003 Golf 1.9 TDi which has recently had a good deal of loving care and attention (and finance) spent on it... Having recently had new front brakes (discs and pads) and new wheel bearings (front) amongst other things, which has solved a variety of graunchy noises, now - starting after about 2 miles of a journey - when I depress the accelerator, I get a kind of intermittent grinding noise coming from the front of the car. The noise stops as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, and also when the car is going around a corner. As soon as I straighten up again, back it comes, getting faster as I speed up. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that I first noticed this problem whilst leaving my local VW dealer, but seeing as my faith in them is kinda low right now, I'd value anyone's opinion on what may be the cause - help! Many thanks in anticipation, Designer59

I have recently bought an H100 Panel Van from my trusted mobile mechanic.

As he drove it with half a ton plus of tools in all the time he never noticed that the rear leaf spring bushes are shot to pieces! With little or no load it bangs and clonks horrendously.... Read more

You could try places like this: www.superflex.co.uk/index.php

You'll need to know the dimensions of the bushes.

Hope this helps someone, have a 2004 clio 1.2 16v which apart from a new clutch a few months ago has been faultless for its 82,000 mile life, serviced correctly by independant garage and started to run rough with engine light flashing on and off. Read all the posts about the ECU cover chomping through the loom and checked this, 1 wire bare but not cut, could have been sending to earth so not helpful ( really stupid cover design Renault a monkey could have forseen issues there !). Cleaned 3 relays behind headlight and all this made no difference at all :( . Started thinking Lambda, ECU, Crank Sensor, Loom , you know all those lovely things Renault would charge an arm and a leg for but stopped and went right back to basics, car starts fine with no engine light on, runs like a lumpy pig so going back the days before ECU's and Laptops I would have said H.T lead or maybe coil so checked out a part number with Europarts as the coil pack and leads are one unit and priced at £28.00 thought its worth a go before we get into Diagnostics mumbo jumbo where you pay and don't always get the correct answer ! Fitted coil pack in 10 mins and clio running perfectly so if you have the same issue its well worth a punt for £28.00 before spending loads of cash and a. being ripped off and b. not being told the truth. I did try a search but most postings seem to be over 2 years old. Has anyone had any recent experience with UKCarBroker?

A long story short i was supposed to receive delivery of a new car on Monday which never happened (apparently due to the parent company suspending fleet codes - whatever that means) - i now find myself in a position where i still don't have a car. The guy i spoke to there (Kevin) seems very helpful and says all the right things but i'm still getting no positive action on getting the car delivered.... Read more

He was right not to name and shame the dealer and leasing company. We have to be very careful on forums like this: although Jaso111 is clearly genuine the other side may have a different version to the story, and we could be in trouble.

Also we have to be careful not to upset anyone who might want to advertise with us: it's the revenue that keeps the forum going
