Hi... I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta LX. Petrol.. Duratec 1242 engine. 71,000 miles. For the last few days it has been a pig to start. On the 19th I was on the way to work. All power seemed to fail and i got an error message on the milometer. EAC FAIL. I managed to get off the main road to a side road and called the R.A.C. The guy used his laptop on it and said it was not showing a fault. Well except one. The Air conditioning. It doesnt have air conditioning. He followed me to work a distance of about 5 miles to see if it would happen again. It didnt. It appears that the culprit might be the Power Modul. The last time i had a fault i was told it was this and that but turned out to be the coil pack. I dont really want to get into that situation again spending money with no cure. I followed a link on here to the ECU doctor. That seemed to me to be the answer. I dont mind paying around £120 if it will cure it. I have to have a vehicle to get to work. I live in a village and the transport is next to nothing. It will mean hiring a vehicle while it`s off road..Thats a better alternative than loosing my job. What I`m really after is advice.. Should I remove the unit and get it to The ECU doctor. paganuk Read more

Guys
Installed elsawin 3.7. When I come to use it, the vehicle type identification comes up.
It requires stuff from the vin and vehicle data sheet:
Sales model - Its a 9N30M4
Engine - its a BUD
Gearbox - its a JFM
Final drive - its a ???
I cant find the final drive code anywhere. Without it elsawin wont work.
Any clues?
Posted on the other place as well.
I checked both the label in the wheel well, and the front of the service book, but alas the code I needed was not listed.

A reader is saying they received a ticket from a private parking company for overstaying at a supermarket.
HJ advice:... Read more
There is at least one case where the private parking company won:
Combined Parking Solutions -v- Stephen J Thomas (2008)
and they have never stopped quoting it since - although some very unusual circumstances applied.
In letters to people who appeal Excel Parking claim it to be a "precedent" which it is not as it was in the lower court. Furthermore the special circumstances were that Mr Thomas manipulated some of the documentation on his computer -- which did not please the judge who (understandably) distrusted everything else in his evidence and found for the parking company ordering Mr Thomas to pay the parking charge.
That said I am largely against responding in any way unless there is a court claim sent by the court - not just a letter from the parking company threatening "imminent court action.
The reason is that responding at all merely seeks to confirm they have the correct address. Under no circumstances should a driver enter any "appeals" process - which largely comprises the parking company deciding whether you should pay them or not - as all you are doing is providing them with information which they may find useful at a future date.
However it is not true that these charges are illegal or indeed always unenforceable. It is the case that it is very difficult to enforce and the odds are very much stacked in the driver's favour in the unlikely event that the case gets to court.
But there is the basis for a payment to be charged if you park in a car park and do not comply with their terms and conditions.
Assuming the warning signage is unmissable and the terms and conditions posted you can be deemed to be entering into a contract by using the car park and - in theory at least - the terms of that contract can be enforced through the courts if you breach that contract.
Where it all falls apart is that:
1. No element of any charge can be punitive or seen as a fine and judges have historically thrown out the few cases that have come before them on the basis that the amounts charged and further additional "costs" added have been punitive. So Honest John's £10 suggestion may have some merit if it dissuades them from endless communications which many people find distressing, particularly if the keeper was the driver, parked there and has already admitted it.
2. While a stamp and an envelope to send endless letters is cheap the parking company will have to pay to issue proceedings. Given the high chance of losing they are understandably very reluctant to do so.
I had a total of 6(3+3) points on my license that stayed on till last year(2009). Both were fixed penalty speeding offences(SP30) and the last one was in May 2005. I just received my clean driving license paper part from DVLA - all wiped off (at a cost of £20 ! )

May be not from a driver's history point of view.
Most insurance companies specifically ask for "last 5 years", and there is one company esure.com has the same question without that "last 5 years" in the end.
So obviously I am confused, hence came here !

When you say it 'trys 2 turn over', if it's just clicking or clonking over slowly, your battery's flat.
They need a healthy battery.
I WANT TO RECOMMEND A USED CR-V TO MY SON BUT WE HAVE SEEN THAT "WHICH" AND OTHERS HAVE NOT MUCH REGARD FOR THE BRAKES. CAN YOU ADVISE PLEASE. Read more
The 'mark 2' version of CR-V was face lifted in 2005. I believe bigger brakes were introduced as part of the improvements. The brakes are absolutely fine - even when fully loaded.

They can be cleaned by washing in soapy (not detergent) water. I just rinse mine out and replace it when needed.
You could always wash your car clean before letting your chammy near it.
