I have a 2002 Jaguar S Type R, I have an intermittent problem with damp affecting the sensors mainly "Restricted Performance" In damp conditions when starting the vehicle from cold the "restricted performance" warning display appears. Drive the vehicle 4 or 5 miles, switch off the engine for two minutes. Restart and the warning sign disappears. Any suggestions/thoughts appreciated. Read more
Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway - I am a bit worried regarding an incident that happened outside a friends house a week ago, and as its my first ever scrape / motoring incident, I am a bit worried (sick) about the outcome.... Read more
My front paasenger wheel seized tonight and I don't know what caused it. I changed the caliper on that side 2 month ago which i got from a scrap yard. Everything seemed fine till today and my car would no even move. I let it sit for several hours then when i went back it moved fine for a few mile then it happened again. The passenger wheel seemed very hot. I then let it cool a little ad poured some cold water on it and the car moved. I am taking it to a garage tomorrow but just want some advice incase I get ripped off. Could it be the caliper piston as the brake pedal felt tighter but the car braked just the same. Read more
Exactly the same happened to me MADF. I used a hose clamp and this damaged my rubber so I changed the hose too a few weeks ago so hoping I will not need to replace that too.
Hi guys,
I have Another problem with my Audi A3. Its a 1.8T AGU Engine with 102,000 miles on the clock.
Its hard to explain but it every so often when I accelerate hard from a slow speed the car violently jerks, almost as if I had jabbed the brakes. It feels like the car is trying to stall but then picks itself up and is fine for a while, it also seems to do it when I am only just touching the accelerator at slow speed. It isn't a continous jerk when accelerating hard, just one big sort of "lurch" but when only slightly accelerating it carries on for longer until I accelerate a bit more or change gear. I have only really noticed it in 1st and 2nd gear, it seems fine at high speeds in the other gears. I also noticed tonight that the average MPG reading on the digital display dropped right down and is gradually building itself back up again.
Due to just buying and doing up a house I cant afford to take it to a garage, my old man who is a retired police mechanic can't figure it out so it's doing my head in!
I have tried various things to sort it, Maf sensor, Lambda sensor, Ignition amplifier module and tested the coil packs but have had no joy! The car is regularly serviced and was serviced approx 6 months ago which included oil, all filters and spark plugs etc.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks Nick
Sometimes when it idles the Rev's drop to almost stall but then picks itself up after a few seconds. I have cleaned out the throttle body with carb cleaner but this has made no difference. If it helps, I noticed last night that the average MPG reading on the digital display had dropped right down to 12MPG since earlier in the morning but quickly started rising back to the usuall 32ish region again...It did this before when it was playing up too!
Its doing my head in as its uncomfortable when it lurches and Im worried im going to break down miles from home eventually!
On TV yesterday there was a programme called “My Family's Crazy Gap Year” recording the progress of a couple of young people taking their three children on a “4x4 driving adventure in Africa”. They bought a 13 years old Land Cruiser, “...with a lot of work required”, part of which was done, and set off. Soon afterward they rolled it over at 5 0’clock in the morning on a dirt road. If it hadn’t been for the camera truck following them they would probably all have died. The father said that the SatNav showed a straight road and he was looking at the SatNav when they came upon a bend while driving ‘fast’. The road was dry, but it was a dirt road and didn’t look all that well maintained. The 4x4 swerved from one side of the road to the other several times before rolling over.
That suggests that : A. the driver was half asleep, B. wrong time of day, C. the steering joints were worn, D. SatNavs...well! ... Read more
I own a 2004 hyundai santa fe, 2.4 petrol. The car has a misfire to it. Always has in my ownership (3 months), Once warm and off auto choke when idling it will occasionally miss, just once every now and again and when driving usually around 1.5 - 2k rpm it will kind of hesitate as though missing. Above that its fine but its very annoying in slow traffic or pulling away etc as you have to constantly drop gears and give it some. I checked all plugs etc and there no obvious differences, both coil packs measure same resistance's so nothing immediatly obvious and it doesnt show any fault codes. I also sat and watched live data while it was idling and doing the misfire but nothing untoward showed up such as rpm signal dropping out to indicate a duff crank / cam sensor etc.
Anyone come across this before? Read more
A local accessories shop supplied me with 3 sets of rear brake shoes and 3 sets of wheel cylinders before they got it right. They have supplied 2 different sets of rear flexi brake hoses, both too short.I need 355mm hoses with male end to fit steel pipe and cutaway for securing clip(hose attaches through bracket in wheel housing). At the other end the alloy wheel cylinder accepts a male connection but original hose had chamfered female at that end,so either will do for attachment to wheel cylinder.
Another accessory shop after giving reg no again, said the hoses they had listed for this model were female both ends(but that`s for 2001 onwards I reckon). Two reasonable sized outlets in Lincs and no luck!... Read more
The Zafira (engine Z18 XER) has failed to start twice in the last few days and two garages I have spoken to say they will be unable to diagnose the problem unless it fails to start in their workshop. The problem has occurred once when the engine was hot and once when cold. I turned the ignition key and absolutely nothing happens. The engine doesn't turn but the dash displays are all on. On both occasions when I have tried a second time having first taken the key out and put it back in, the engine has started but died 1 or 2 seconds later. On the third occasion the engine fired and there was no problem. It has started without problem several times before, between and after the two occasions. Before the first time the rearmost courtesey light came on for no reason but this may be completely unrelated. Does anyone have any ideas please? It is 4 years old and has done 38000 miles. Read more
Ok. I'll have a go and if doesn't recur in the next week then hopefully that's it. Someone has also suggested to me that it may be the CIM unit, but cleaning up the earths sounds far cheaper. Thank you.
I'm driving a VW Polo 1.6 and in South Africa. when driving above 110 Km/h (75miles/hour)the car showes an EPC warning light together with the Handbrake warning light and when this happens the speedometer needle falls back to zero with no adverse effect on the performance. but when driving in less than 75miles /hour this does not happen....what can be the cause of this? Hi There!
I wonder if there is someone out there who might know about bailiffs cashing in an order made by the court against a car dealer......I have obtained judgement against a car dealer with showroom, and know that once the deadline for payment is over he wont pay!, terefore I will need to resort to bailiffs at the end, but Im not sure if baillifs call at his show room can take away a car from him to sell since the car dealers dont register their stock into their name and can claim that whats on the premisses belongs to people who have left their cars there for sale.............any ideas! Thanks..John Read more
Bailiffs cannot seize anything on the property, firstly the items must belong to the person (not the household) owing the money, secondly if the said items are required for the persons employment they cannot take those either, i.e. if you're a computer programmer they cannot take you computers, a plumber - your tools etc.
Lastly without a court order to do so (which are very rare) a bailiff cannot enter your home by force, no foot in the door, no pushing the door open, he can enter through a door or window that has been left open. If he says otherwise - he is lying. Once he has entered the properly he can then reenter to seize goods - just don't ever let them in then they are practically powerless. They'll use all sorts of tricks, can I use your phone, loo etc. ignore them, just don't let them in (go outside to speak to them and close the door behind you.)
Finally always make a written offer of payment even if it's only £5 per week and keep a copy, they will almost certainly turn it down, if they do take you to court for an enforcement order, tell the judge your offer of payment was refused and present a copy of your offer. The judge will very likely be peeved at the bailiffs for turning down an offer of payment and will chuck the case out of his court, often quashing the debt as well, as a punishment to the bailiffs for being unreasonable.

Not very nice for somebody to behave like that and you admitted fault.I believe here in yorkshire they say as common as muck with that kind of behavour. She was lucky to get any money out of you.
