My local Nissan dealer, who now also sells Suzukis, sent me a letter saying that as it's a while since I bought my last car from them, would I be interested in anything in their showroom? I did check their website and found two immaculate 09 plate Suzuki Splashes for £ 7495, which, of course, would still have the bulk of their warranty on them. I'm not overly fond of the Swift, finding it bulky looking and testers have complained of the heavy body affecting performance and economy. but the Splash looks a good car, like a mini MPV. Also on checking Which in the local library, the Splash received four stars for reliability and quality and the economy, performance and low purchase costs were praised. I was more inclined towards getting a Honda or a Toyota to replace my ageing Nissan, but the Splash has made me think again and as an existing customer, the dealership might give me a better deal. Take the radio out and see if its wired up properly and the ariel is in.If you have a 12v supply they are easy to test with a AVO or spare speaker.

Choosing between Mercedes and Audi? I'd definetely go for Mercedes if you want a car that will not simply drive you from A to B.

I don't believe it I have the same problem as my last car with an alloy wheel. During the week I went to the local tyre centre with what I thought was a slow puncture to be informed there was corrosion on the inner rim and that the wheel needed refurbishment. When I contacted the number they gave me I was quoted £65 + VAT. However I do not want the whole wheel refurbished just the leak cured. The other problem was dropping off the wheel and going back for it would use up my 50 mile/50 mph spare! Does anybody know of a company who will sort out the inner rim while I wait? Preferably in Herts or Beds but would also consider North London, Bucks and Essex. Many thanks. Read more

Many thanks for the responses. After telephoning around I found a small independent tyre dealer who did the job for just under £18-00. It seems that the larger chains (who mainly have younger staff) do not really want to know! Garage-express - if I had not found someone closer I would have come over to you.

Does it not tell you in the log book,if you cannot get the info from this or the plaque on the engine its self then go to one of the forums where I am sure they will be pleased to give all the advice you require.

My elderly jalopy is coming up for its MOT, and needs a service. Can anyone recommend a good experienced independent in or around Sheffield? I'm a bit wary of relying on The Good Garage guide et al, as I've seen some positive feedback for outfits that I wouldn't personally rate.

my landrover garage are doing a full service shortly and adviced flushing oil system at a cost of £60.00. the car has done 37000 miles and new in jan 2008. advisable or just a "nice little earner". Thankyou. Read more

Using flushing oil is a total waste of time and in some cases causes damage especially to the seal the carbon build up has made on the rings and valve stems. When you change oil the engine it needs to be reasonable warm when you take it to main dealers the car is stood around for a couple of hours and the oil is stone cold and does not drain properly leaving all the crud still in the sump and oilways.
