Is there a cost effective way to soften the suspension? the model has 18 inch wheels. Read more

buy some 17" wheels, the extra side wall rubber will reduce the hard ride....

but then again the car was standard with 18s so technically you'd have to inform your insurance company that you have "modfied" the car from standard....

Hi, my wife's VW has just started to make a noise when reversing especilly at an angle. I think it may be a cv joint worn. It's on the offside. Not sure if it's the outer or inner joint. I 've tried local car parts places but they reckon you can only buy the complete shaft with both joints. seems a very expensive way of doing it. Can any tell me if this is true. Also is it a fairly easy job to do. Thanks. Read more

A guy in our road had his(untaxed) car clamped Friday lunchtime by the DVLA.The car is still clamped,I thought the longer you left the car clamped the the higher the release fee?.

I would of thought he would get the clamp off ASAP to save embarressment as well as money!.... Read more

If you don't pay within 24 hours they can impound the vehicle -- and crush it or sell it after 7 days.

The release fee is £100 for the first 24h and £200 thereafter. There is a £21 a day storage fee if they lift the vehicle. In addition you have to tax the car before they will release it and also cover any back tax due....

Following a service several months ago I now find I have only one locking wheel nut "key". Is this going to be a problem for me? Will that one key undo all the wheel nuts? If not, what should I do? Read more

You normally only get one key common to all four nuts. Regards Peter

Good morning.

The issue concerns my wife's 04 plate avant. She informs me she is regularly topping up the coolant system... WITH WATER FROM THE TAP.

I have searched the Internet, done the relevant here, lifted the bonnet and uncovered what I believe to be the cause of my problem. I just need one final piece of information to be able to source and or fit the correct part.

Someone else had helpfully hosted some pics, so I will plagiarise his work, then help him find a solution to his (same) question.

Briefly, the situation looks the same as this...

Anyone able to let me know what this is and does? It's pretty loose, and liquid has pooled under here and stained the road, suggesting that after a drive and while the engine is off and cooling, it drips down out of here.

Appreciate any advice for a newbie!

Thanks

Yes I have seen both types. This is going to get expensive if the treads of the pipe are damaged. Regards Peter

I have recently had my motorbike driven into whilst stationary in a car park. Person responsible accepted liability and claim has gone through his insurance.

Cost of repairs exceeded value of bike and bike could have been written off at a value of £1900. When engineer looked over bike we discussed the options as damage was very minor. I agreed via the insurance company to accept £1300 to get some of the repairs done but obviously this wouldn't cover the full cost of repairs.... Read more

You took £1300 in lieu of repair and kept the bike....
