In the servicing manual for this car it recommends changing the brake fluid every 3 years irrespective of mileage, which I have been doing over the last 10years I've had the car.
I am now told this is all old hat & is no longer necessary. The fluid I have been using is to Dot 4 spec, purchased in the last few weeks from Halfords & is their own brand.... Read more

Good Luck Shelly.
I'm getting a whining noise when the engine is first starting in the morning which disappears a soon as the engine has warmed up a little. Sounds like the water pump bearing, but the noise is coming from more in the direction of the air con pump. Switching the air con on and off doesn't make any difference though.
I have checked the water pump in situ and there is a very tiny amount of play in the bearing, but otherwise it feels smooth. I'm wondering about slipping the belt off that runs the water pump and alternator and starting the engine. This should rule them in or out as a possible cause.... Read more
You could try dribbling a little bit of water on the belt as it's running and see if the noise stops.

hi
ive a seat alhambra 1.9 tdi pd which has a cracked cylinder head due to overheating. ive been advised by the garage that replacing the head for a reconditioned one may not cure the problem as it might have cracked the main block and would incure a hefty repair bill. does any one know what the likelyhood of the main block cracking along with a cylinder head? is it worth chancing a recon head first? car is on an 02 plate 83000 mles... Read more
the cost for a reconditioned head, assosiated parts including labour is estimated between £1100 and £1200 with no guarantee tto cure the proplem as he has sugested the main block could be cracked. the garage has been recomended to us and has a good reputation. his advice is to build the car back up with the original head and put some cylinder haed sealant to fix the leaks and get rid of the car

I own a vauxhall zafira diesel with the 1.9 150bhp engine. During my summer holiday in france the bearing in the water pump seized causing the engine to seize. The engine has been repaired by vauxhall under warranty as my car is 2 years old with 30,000 miles on the clock. The engine required a new head, new rockers, new camshafts, new waterpump and a new timing belt. I am now looking to get rid of the car and am wondering if the 1.7d engine would be a more reliable proposition. I am interested in vauxhalls new lifetime warranty and despite the problems encountered it is a good 7 seater. I am also considering a grand renault scenic. Read more
Indeed, but compared to some other manufacturers Vauxhalls are unreliable and yes of course there are plenty of reliable Vauxhalls - it's all relative.
