A number of motoring forums seem to be catching on to problems with recirculation of crankcase gasses into the inlet manifold to be burnt as part of the combustion process.
It would seem the blowby gasses pick up oil vapour thus coating the various sensors, hoses etc.... Read more
Closed cuircuit crankcase ventalation has been a problem for years. Steam or water vapour injection in the manifold would keep all the valves & manifold a lot cleaner .
You can buy an aresol cleaner now designed to wash inlet manifolds & EGR valves but the only way to really clean an EGR valve is to remove it....
I was asked to have a quick look yesterday at a Fiat Spyder (indeterminate year), but must be a late model as it is lhd with American bumpers and auto transmission. American sourced?

hi all,
my air con pump bearings are making a noise, mainley at low refs but very noticeable, can anybody tell me do i need new pump, how much will it cost to do, could this be why my air con does'nt work, took it to be filled up with gas other day and you could here pump working.....two days later pump does not work and clutch is not spinning, could the bearing also cause the leak of gas?... I would suggest you take the car to a good independent a/con specialist and take some advice on these problems.I run a 2001 Mondeo v6 (same engine)and my a/c pump has a slight leak ,but functions ok and does not make a noise. If it is out of gas ,then it is very likely the condensor(a/c rad) has a leak.hth

The alternator was one of the last components to be fairly standard and uncomplicated - they have even messed that up now!
2000 Kia Sedona 2.9 TDi
I couldn't start my Sedona. Instead of turning the engine over it made a weird metallic grinding noise. I tried rocking it backwards and forwards to see if the engine was seized. When I tried to start it next time, it sounded like it was trying to throw the engine over once and then it was whirring. I thought it was just the starter motor that did not have the ability to turn the engine and was disengaging.
However, the AA man discovered that the timing belt was turning even when the whirring noise was occuring. There is no compression being produced at the exhaust. So he reckioned that the timing belt had slipped round and that when the pistons were trying to compress they were actually just pushing the gases back out of the intake, and so was just whirring without any resistance.
So, does this mean that my engine has been destroyed? What will have been damaged? Will my valves have all been bent?
It was a bad day.
Thanks

Some will, some won't. Depending on the valeve configuration and how many times you have turned it over, you will have probably have bent up to 8 vlaves
When you are not logged in what you think is the reply link is report offensive - you probably click on it on auto pilot. Daft yes but that's what the left most link is when you're not logged in. If you login the left most link is reply to.
II've got this wrong before now and so have others. The old forum software would have asked you to login when you clicked on reply if you're not logged in. The new software does not do this (yet) so when you're not logged in you cannot click on reply to.... Read more
I notice HJ's around... is there any chance he could ask the powers that be for a couple of "fixes" to make the forum easier to use?
1. Permament log on like we used to have...
Few days ago I was involved in accident with the other car. Basically I was behind the car that supposed to turn left (indicating), instead he drove right on to ghost island (diagonal hatches). Because I had free way in front of me I continued to drive straight ahead, all of a sudden the car that was on my right sharply turned left, blocking the road. In result my front right wing and the bumper got smashed the other had a dent in passenger door.
Driver from the other car accused my of causing the accident claiming that lorry drivers do this kind of maneuvers when turning left. His car was not a lorry only Citroen Berlingo. Because I have only third party insurance what are the chances of recovering costs of the repair to my vehicle, and in general what should I do, to best handle my case? Should I hire accident management company? Read more
Any chance of giving the location?
The only thing you did was undertake. Was that reasonable?...
Just bought a old S40 runaround but there is no handbook ,if anyone has got one on the forum could they tell me what a good quality oil you use.

Also have a look at the spark plugs and make sure they are not sitting in water. If so, you can blow it out, or `wick` it out by using a rag dipped into it - then spray with WD40.
