I'm still in the LP era when it comes to music and so ipods and MP3 players are beyond my comprehension.

Just traded in my B7 A4 for a second hand B8 which instead of the 6 CD player has a connection for a "music inerface" Has anyone had any experience of these? A trip to Currys has only served to confuse me even more. The Dealer will supply the appropriate cable once I tell him what storage device I've purchased. But which is best?... Read more

Driving home last night and the temp shot to red. Pulled over and found a leek at bottom of hose/rad. I put 2.5 litres of water in it to get me home. When I topped up this morning in the expansion tank the water stayed in the tank, and did not fill the system. So could not check leak at the bottom. took the rad off and checked thermostat. Thermo ok, no leaks in the rad although I,ve not tested it under pressure. I can,t fill the rad through the expansion tank! The tank fills up and thats it, should it transfer the water into the rad? I think it should. Any help is appreciated as I need to be mobile by tuesday. Thanks Read more

iirc there is a bleed screww on top of the rad to allow air out while filling up through the exspansion tank,Regards TB

Hi, this is my first post, My clutch was slipping on the motorway, in 5th when I put my foot down on a hill. I hope to get a couple of months or so doing steady city driving, and then scrappage towards my first ever new car, avoiding paying £350 on a clutch which will be scrapped. I would like to ask how long or how many miles other drivers have had out of a clutch after they first noticed it slipping. Thanks for reading any any replies are much appreciated. Read more

no frills

Yes the scrappage deal has ended so I'll have to look at my options again. I am driving the car gently and seems to be biting fine with general driving, I,m just gonna make sure I get it straight in if it starts slipping with general easy driving. Might be best looking for my replacement car sooner than I had planned, thanks

hi all, just filled up a/con with gas at kwik fit, but air still no cooler so did'nt have to pay, but they did say your pump is working as it is going in and out (whatever that meens) there is a fast ticking sound from the engine on tick over and low revs but when you put your foot down a bit, you cannot hear it, the sound comes from the o/s around the belt area and only lasts for 30 secs or so, on and off, could this be the same problem.............any ideas what i can try?

thank you Read more

thanks for quick reply, just been out to car. you can here the pump going in and out, and the noise got a lot better when i switched air con on,not really a ticking more of a jurddering noise, something to do with the belt though..... kwik fit just did a top up, he gave me some blokes card to ring up, that deals with air con, he can't come out till 10 days going on long journey tuesday, so just wondered if there is anything i can do, car just been serviced by ford with previous owner they said car and engine was good?

I am having an intermittent heater problem with my 1.6 16v Astra Sport which I feel may be related to an electric/electronics fault.

The heater will sometimes start blowing cold air when the engine is hot, then it will blow hot air. I also have occaisional problems when I start the car, it starts no problem but then the engine management icon will come up and the engine will just idle and not respond to the throttle. If I switch it off and try again it usually works fine. I can't help feeling that this is part of the problem that is affecting the heater. Possibly a wrong signal being sent to a heater control valve??... Read more

Thank you for that. I will check out the water level, thermostat etc. first then if that doesn't work I will get the car diagnostics checked at my local garage tomorrow.

I scratched my toyota avensis front bumper on left wing, though very small...it irritates me to see like that. Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to paint the left half of the bumper or do they need to paint the whole bumper?

Does anyone know any good and cheap one at Norwich please?... Read more

If its very small, you could call someone like Chips Away who may be able to repair the scratch at your home without a traditional respray. Also, from memory, Halfords also do a similar service, I am sure there is one in Norwich, so pop down and get them to have a quick look.

I have recently purchased the afore mentioned vehicle. I have noticed the alarm to tell me I have left my lights on when leaving the car is not working. I have looked under the dash to see if I can find the buzzer, but have not been able to find it. Can you please tell me where it is located?

I can't see it listed in my Haynes manual either, so suspect it may be part of something more sinister. Any help would be appreciated.... Read more

Not on any of the cars I've owned - although I did hire a Ford Focus recently and that was permanently live - I know because the light on the sat nav never went out when the ignition was turned off.  Actually, come to think of it, it's a real pain, it's why my sat nav is never charged when I come to use it!

When the dashboard on my wife's Citroen went haywire many years ago (car was just a few months old - every digit and warning light came on, key in or out) - the garage claimed it was because we had been "plugging accessories into the accessory socket".  I was told that any kind of charger would disrupt the on board power management systems.

I have a 2001 Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 (petrol). It's always having problems with the EGR valve - every six months or so we have to remove it and give it a clean out. We cleaned it out the other week and ever since then we've been having problems.

Not always, but quite often, when I'm going along at around 40-50mph I will put my clutch in to change down gears to slow down for a roundabout or turning and the revs just drop off and the car will stall. This happens even when the car is still going along at about 30mph, not just at low speeds. I can always tell when it's about to stall because the car will start to judder backwards and forwards a bit as I'm driving along. It sometimes also feels like it's pulling back a bit when I rev.... Sounds like the behaviour of my 51 plate 1.6 Zafira two years ago - cleaning the EGR didn't help but I found a replacement GM one on e-bay for £50 and haven't had any trouble since. Dead easy to change too.

I've posted a couple of times about what to replace my unloved Mondeo TDCi with, wondering about everything from a Honda Accord to a Volvo V50 or V70.

My budget is based on the part ex for the 55 plate Mondeo (roughtly £4.2k) and probably up to £1500 cash. So you can see I'm looking at something older, probably high mileage.... Read more

It's worth bearing in mind, MO, that you could get a newer Skoda Octavia for your budget than you could a V70 or Accord. It has a lot more room than a V50 and won't cost any more for something with similar age and mileage.

As DP and others have found, buying a high-miler can be well worth while provided that it's got a full service history and, as far as you can tell, seems to have been looked after.
