When you are not logged in what you think is the reply link is report offensive - you probably click on it on auto pilot. Daft yes but that's what the left most link is when you're not logged in. If you login the left most link is reply to.

II've got this wrong before now and so have others. The old forum software would have asked you to login when you clicked on reply if you're not logged in. The new software does not do this (yet) so when you're not logged in you cannot click on reply to.

Just another feature to be implemented.

So if you post a message and it vanishes this might be why.

Many thanks. I've reported this. You're right - ideally one should log in first but it's easy to forget.

The old software had you login when you hit reply when logged out. Easy change. Hava a reply button that then either lets you reply or makes you login. Obvious really.

PS If this works... got the old 500 error. The forum software still has bugs it seems!

ideally one should log in first but it's easy to forget.

And then the reply ends up in the webmaster email account instead. Simple web design would avoid this.

Will the login fix above also remove the need to re-log just to see new posts? The old site (and the other place!) where you only have to log in to reply was much more user friendly. Presumably it's only a simple trick with cookies?

I notice HJ's around... is there any chance he could ask the powers that be for a couple of "fixes" to make the forum easier to use?

1. Permament log on like we used to have

and

2. When you make a post in reply to someone it goes to that post and not the top of the thread...

Its getting a little tiresome!!
