I plan to replace my 11 year old Mazda in the next year or so. I like Subarus and an Impreza would suit me well. I've test driven a 2.0 sport and found it a bit lacking in torque so I'm considering the WRX, though I haven't driven one yet.

Are there any owners (of either variant) on this forum who could give an opinion. I'd be buying the Sportswagon.... Read more

The later the engines the better ie after 2003 model year seem to be OK, in the USA they had a spate of heads going around 2000 -2002 MY where Subaru US helped out. The key as ever is to use the correct spec oil OE oil filter , change the coolant at egular intervals and use OE rad cap.

Turbos' suffer from digesting foreign bodies low oil levls and switching off after an M way run . My last Legacy Turbo EState went on for 140k and only required a couple of engine sensors and 2 clutches....

Hi, I have a 2005 Citroen C5 Exclusive. The problem I have is a rattling noise coming from the hatchback. It is definately the hatch as I was transporting some goods that called for the hatch to be left open and the noise had gone!!

Apologies for thread resurrection but in case anyone else has this problem it's the comms 2000 unit that needs to be replaced (indicator stalks etc) but if you are on a budget get a wiring diagram, trace the switch and fit a separate toggle to the dashboard somewhere!

I'm looking to change my much loved old Xtrail and like the look, ride, performance and all the gadgets on the new one - Tekna. However I no longer really need all the space, and am put off by the high VED rating and relatively poor mpg, but attracted by a 0% finance deal. I have tried a Yeti, 140 hp awd diesel and was quite impressed though the ride was alot firmer than I'm used to. It's low co2, good mpg, low insurance are all attractive. I would like to compare the 170 engine but dealers mainly seem to have 110 hp diesel, some 2wd versions. Has anyone been able to compare the 140 and 170 engines. How do they get so much more out of the same lump with no fuel penalty? Is it worth the extra? Why is the insurance grouping so low?

Still deliberating. PX offer on Xtrail increased by Nissan to make even more attractive deal on new Xtrail but have to decide fast to take advantage. Can't find a Yeti 170 to try. I had overlooked Octavia 4x4 but now recognize VFM possibility. Decisions, decisions...

My Omega is developing problems faster than I can fix them so it looks like time for a replacement. Budget is limited (£3,000 max) and I really need an auto. Over the weekend I saw a 2000 Golf 1.6 auto (84k) but the asking price seemed a bit steep at £3,495. Or am I just out of touch. Any suggestions appreciated as lng as it is NOT a Vauxhall!... Golfs hold their value for a reason. People want them. Simple supply and demand.

MkIV Golfs are great cars, but I agree £3.5k for a 10 yr old one is far too much money. I bought a 99 1.8T GTI a couple of months ago for £1800, albeit with the wrong side of 100k on the clock. Even so, you should be able to pick up something a good 2 years newer for £3.5k, or the same thing a good grand cheaper, if its petrol anyway. My advice would be:...

I have foolishly lost my 9 years no claims because of being off the road for 2years 3months(apart from pushbike!)Age 50,no accidents, convictions or medical history, clean as a whistle. Want to insure a 2000 Fiesta 3d std 1.3 zetec as cheap as possible.Anyone know of an insurer who might give me a good deal for quiet old East Lincs please?Noticed TPFT is sometimes dearer than Comp with some.Best quotes I`ve had are Fortis,TPFT £288 and Zurich,Comp £315,both incl £26 legal cover.Paid under £100 to insure my old van from `07-`08....the same as it would cost me to insure my old BSA Bantam if I put it on the road this summer, and I haven`t ridden that since 1978...or any bike for years! Thanks Read more

Basically, I'm an idiot!!!

Back in 2004 I received a 6 month driving ban under the Totting Up procedure. During these years I have never disclosed this to my insurer of which I am now going to regret unless someone can help me!!... Read more

Where are the insurance company going to find out about the convictions? Surely if the DVLA have no record of them any more there is nowhere that they can surface from. Normal convictions will not show on your driving record after 5 years.

I don't see how parking opposite can be illegal.

It may have been a polite request not to park there if it makes it difficult to exit the driveway....

Does the board think that fuel will go back down again after easter ? As the government only put fuel up 1p in the budget, I would like to know why suddenly fuel seems to have gone up from £1.14.9 to around £1.20 overnight around here (Reading) ?

Will it go back down when they have finished ripping off the bank holiday motorists ? Read more

AAAAHHH Idle-chatter - you've finally found the bargain of Watford, on the A41 - I often if the M25 is slow, and I need - lunch/a wee/fuel its worth coming off - filling up and its really easy to get back onto the M1.

Today , sat 10th April, on the south circular up by Hornimans museum it was 1.17.9 and last week up near Eltham, take 3rd junction from Mc DOnalds towards the town centre - I filled up at 1.16.9 - which was nice
