Undeclared convictions and now had an accident - GordonC

Basically, I'm an idiot!!!

Back in 2004 I received a 6 month driving ban under the Totting Up procedure. During these years I have never disclosed this to my insurer of which I am now going to regret unless someone can help me!!

On friday I was involved in a minor rear end shunt. I had no chance of stopping as the vehicle in front of the one I hit only just managed to avoid hit that one. As it's a rear end shunt I know that I'm at fault, I can live with that.

However, it's dawning on me that I haven't disclosed my convictions with my insurance compnay, which from the hours of research this weekend has made my life a whole lot worse.

I have called the DVLA to see what points are on my license only to be told that it is totally clean, my TS99 doesn't even show up as they are over 4 years old and have therefore expired. My confusion is that the DVLA said they have no record what so ever of any old convictions...can my insurance find this out otherwise as they do ask for 5 years.

My obvious worry is that when the claim starts getting processed this might rear it's ugly head. Am I best to lay low and take it on the chin if anything arises or should I 'fess all to my insurers?

I understand the implications of what I have done and may therefore void my insurance and face some form of prosecution. Just wondering what kind of outcome I'm to expect?

Again, I realise I'm stupid and understand that what I have done is possibly fraudulent and I should get my just deserves. What has saved me £50-£100 in premiums in the past is now going to cost me a whole lot more.

Any help, guidance or advice would be greatly received as to how I can get to the end of this with a happier resolution.

An earlier question along these lines got the reply that the insurance company would probably honour the cover but would bill you for the past premiums which would have been payable if you HAD declared the conviction. This is based on my memory of the question and is NOT a definitive answer or legal opinion!

Where are the insurance company going to find out about the convictions? Surely if the DVLA have no record of them any more there is nowhere that they can surface from. Normal convictions will not show on your driving record after 5 years.
