Hi all, (good forum)
I have an 04 Almera Tino without sat nav.Is it possible to get a "Sat nav.(Nissan)" cd and put it in ? . Its got the standard centre console with "map"button, toggle key etc. It is not marked as "SE" or "SE+" I dont know if its an import or not? Would this be a problem? Sorry for all the questions ,with thanks, Read more
My partner has a C4 hatchback purchased new in November 2005.
The car has done just under 25000 miles and has been serviced by the dealer in accordance with the required schedule.
We noticed an oil leak on Tuesday so she took it into a local independent garage to get it checked out to be told there is an oil leak from the head. The repair cost quoted is £595 + VAT for parts and labour.
We have contacted Citroen customer service with a view to getting a contribution towards the repair and they have advised booking it into a dealer to be checked out ? sadly the original dealer it was purchased from is long defunct.
Once this has been done they can consider a contribution towards the cost of repair. We have a reference number to give to the dealer for them to follow up with Citroen.
The car is obviously out of warranty (6 months) but would it be considered by the panel here that this kind of failure is acceptable at this stage of the vehicle?s life?
The car is now booked in for a peek next Wednesday. The dealer is unaware of ever seeing an issue like this on a C4.
How far do people believe we should be able to push this?

You get nowhere shouting at folk you did the best thing, that head will or should be skimmed & new valve stem oil seals should get fitted do ask if they are, the original will be ok but while it's off its a small job.
I'm not sure if this is public knowledge but i found out today that the above car has got an electric heater aswell as coolant heater. From 'research' on the net today there is a 1kw ceramic heater moulded into the dash.
For those of you who are thinking wow how do you get that to work then this is for 'S' spec car with climatic control
set the heat range to 26 degrees (some say 90% of range others 50%)
press the econ button so that the led is OFF
Turn the fan to whatever speed you want, maybe be better off with 1 first off to see that it is working and off you go.
I have owned 2 mk5 golfs over 4 years and this is the first i know of the electric heater so might be new to alot of peole but then again maybe not??
Might be best trying the above to a cold car that has been sat overnight as you are not going to know if it is working or not if the engine is already warm. Wish i had known about this during the winter!!!
For those of you who own petrol mk5 golfs i'm sorry but the electric heater is only installed in the diesel range of golfs.
For those of you who have got auto climate control the function i imagine is there but i'm not sure how you would go about getting it working.
Hope it helps someone?? Read more
So we start of with an ICE engine which turns some of the energy in the fuel into mechanical energy, the rest into heat and noise, mostly heat. We then turn some of the mechanical energy into electrical energy, turning some (OK veru small part) into waste heat in the alternator ann finally turn some of the electrical energy back into heat?
Hi,
Have just taken my Vectra C to the dealer garage to investigate a rattling noise coming from the drive belt area under my hood. In just 10 seconds of hearing the noise the mechanic said the water pump bearings are on the way out. To sort it out they need to replace the pump, AND the cam belt.
Apparently when they take both out, they don't recommend putting the same belt back in.
My cam belt was changed about 30K ago.
Having been out of work and cash strapped lately, so can I get some open and honest opinions if both a new pump and belt is the only option?
Can't remember exactly but I think belts are changed every 40k now (?), if so it wouldn't be a crying shame to change at 30K I suppose. It just feels like all of the expensive things are coming home to roost when I least need it.
Cheers,

Also worth trying a couple of other main delaers if convenient; they don't always charge the same. A couple of times in the past I've had jobs done cheaper by a main dealer than local indies wanted. Wouldn't hang about though if the water pump is that bad.
Hi,
As question above. Trying to settle a pub conversation which was that high revs damage engines.
would driving at a constant 90-95mph cause any damage to the car/engine, on a mg 2.0 turbo diesel.
Car is sitting at around 3800-4000 revs at those speeds.
Would engine wear increase due to those speeds and would it affect engine life?

>>Car is sitting at around 3800-4000 revs at those speeds.
Max revs is about 4500rpm on the L series diesel and top speed is 115-120ish I think in the top state of tune - are you sure its revving that hight at 90-95?
I would have expected somewhere around 3K revs would be more like it - unless its had a gearbox transplant at some point with different ratios!
Depending on useage and length of time at high revs I would think that it will do the engine more good than short, stop/start driving. Take a marine engine that will chug along for many hours at a time at 70-80% of max output and sometimes a lot more with no ill effects - I remember when we had a boat that Perkins-Sabre recommended running at high revs to keep the turbo's healthy!!
A little worried, may have jumped a red light (on a very poorly designed pedestrian crossing). There is no enforcement camera on the associated set of traffic lights, however there is a camera located on the set of traffic lights on the other side of the street (for a set of lights associated with traffic travelling in the opposite direction).
In theory, could the camera located on the opposite set of traffic lights (legally) be used for the purposes of issuing a penalty charge for the set of traffic lights without any camera? Or are cameras only ever linked to one particular set of lights?
Thank you for your time. Read more
Normal traffic light cameras are not type approved for speeding prosecutions as there is no secondary check available, although many red light camera do detect your speed and provide as part of the data set. There are now RedSpeed cameras on some lights and 1 metre spaced white lines across the junction and they are type approved for both red light and speeding offences. Regards Peter
My TDi is very noisy when idleing and under accelaration when compared to a friends similar car. The car has done 105k with full service history. Any ideas? Read more
My ole Brother has got this thing - I won't call it a car but it's an L reg 2 ltr diesel Corolla
... Now, I've owned and driven (in 'The Trade') many vehicles of every shape & discription but - I've never come across a 'thing' like his Toyota diesel ... no kidding, its soooooooooooo bad I'd rather walk!
I reckon the reason is that he bought it from a cut n' shut merchant (another relative!) and the absolutely incredible noise and vibration is down to the engine mountings in some way, in fact I'd put £££ on it.
I'm looking at buying a dualiner as a big family wagon (thanks for the advice everyone) The question I have is, is there much difference in the running cost of the LWB -v- SWB models. I know the boot space is considerably bigger in the LWB but is won't be used for work purposes so its not an issue. I've being told there could be as much a 10-13mpg in the difference. The model is the 2.2 109bhp.
thanks Read more
thanks lads, the merc website quotes the mpg for the sport 115 as 44 mph but i guess the reality is alot lower. cheers for the advice
Hello everybody.
For some months now my wipers won't park. I have to switch the lever down with precision timing to stop them in their parking place. I'm assuming the park switch is faulty and activating (closing or opening) when the wipers are not at park.
From looking into a similar problem with the rear wiper on my brothers focus I discovered the park switch is burried deep within the motor assembly. It looks like it's impossible to change without actually cutting the assembly up.
Unfortunatly I have an MOT coming up so will need to sort it out. Before I buy a new motor I was wondering if any of you guys know of any other common causes that I should rule out first?
Also over the past 5 days it has blown 4 fuses (30 amp). The blown fuses are black with almost all fusible conductor vapourised suggesting a dead short rather than slight over current. I actualy heard one whilst driving, blow!
I'm thinking this could all be down to a dodgy motor or maybe my blown fuses are down to my 'abuse' of the lever switch when I hit it down to manually park. Have I damaged the switch in any way? I'm assuming the steering colunm switch contains/switches all lives though, and wouldn't have any earths (within switch assembly) to short to.
Sorry for the essay!

Thanks for the reply.
The washers is a bit of a red herring realy because every time before it's blown when just using the wipers. When You squirt the washers the timer relay stays on to allow 3 automatic swipes. I then have to switch the wipers on and off to do the manual park and that's when it blew.
I just find it interesting that the wipers will run quite happily for ages but the fuse only blows when I switch them off (in the park position)..
Must all be tied in to the park switch. If it's broken it's anchor it won't do it's job and could well be getting pushed against the motor casing hence the short.
This makes me think the power for the motor is only transfered to flow via the park switch AFTER the timer relay opens rather than the motor being powered from the park switch and the timer relay. Otherwise the fuse would blow while the wipers are running and pass their park position. ie when the timer relay is powering the motor the park switch is dead hence wwhy it doesnt blow
hi,i've just replaced the front discs/pads and the rear shoes.on my xsara 1.4i (w 2000)i went to my local motor factor for DOT 4 brake fluid,to 'bleed' the brakes, but on the back it said certain citroen cars should NOT use dot 4.i asked the shop assistant and he said i should use LMH+.Is this right?i've never heard of this before,i don't want to use this 'fluid' in case it knackers the brake system.i've even looked in my haynes manual, but can't seem to find it.any help would be much appreciated. A case of the service attended accused of 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing'
As has been mentioned the Xsara brakes system is standard and uses either dot4.0 or dot5.1. But not dot5.0.
The green fluid with which the attended is talking about is LHM+ for the hydropnumatic Citroens of which the Xsara is not.

Hi Nutmeg,
On Primeras of the same age, the Sat Nav is run from a separate DVD player either in the dash or under one of the front seats.
I believe that the non-Sat Nav models also have the map button.
I don't think the Sat Nav DVD would work in your CD player.
You could try the Almera Owner's Club to confirm.
The disks from Nissan are extremely expensive and not particularly up to date.
You could buy a few after market Sat Navs for the same price.
I have a Garmin Nuvi which works well and is very simple to use. TomToms also seem well liked.
