Its with a little sadness and a slightly dented bank account that I write this today.
A couple of weeks ago the engine management light came on and I cursed, went home from work, Bicester to Luton, in limp mode and the following morning when the car wouldn't start I phoned a man with a box of electrickery and some magick software who turned up at half past five, told me that #4 injector was very knackered and charged me considerably less than a usual member of the public as his boss is a friend of a friend.
A quick discussion ensued as to which local garage would be best to repair the beast. The following day I took the Porsche to work, slippery roads made for some rapid but occasionally sideways progress.
Phone calls to a few potential garages and I selected a suitable one.
Injectors at £150 each, a recoding fee, sensible hourly labour rate for the work. The first decision came after they'd properly tested the four injectors. #4 was definitely dead. #s 2&3 were very sick and #1 wasn't very good. Had a choice of just changing one and putting it through the ring hoping that the engine light would stay off but decided that the extra money on changing all four would be worth it. Only time will tell. I've had the car back a week, its running as well as ever and is preferable to drive on potholed icy roads.
Apart from that I've recently put four brand new michelin pilot premacys on it. That has improved the grip and handling, it breaks away at a higher speed now and also breaks away more progressively. I think if it was still awaiting fresh rubber I'd have decided to auction it instead. I guess the potential replacement, probably an Octavia but who knows, will have to wait. With a bit of luck the Porsche will get replaced with an Ariel Atom before the Mondeo goes to the great scrapyard in the sky.
A quick glance at the trip counter shows I've done 197 miles on the first quarter of a tank (indicated) so consumption is back to its best.

Humph, I had to change an exhaust mount to get it through the last MOT and I've seen another fail on a different tdci, somethign that owners should check, saves them getting banged on speedbumps which really doesn't do them any good.
hi, so the aftermarket cd player on this corsa doesnt play sound at the speakers unless the ignition key is out. it seems to be playing albeit with no sound with the car started and also with ignition on. once the key is out it will play normally with sound until the key is used to try to disengage the steering lock, at this point the sound goes off. there is no flicker as this happens. power supply seems uninterupted.
any ideas?

Is there any difference in fuel economy with the Mondeo 2.0 Tdci 130bhp and the 2.2 tdci 155bhp saloons. Read more
I have also owned both and noticed a significant difference. The current 155 that I have is a St TDCI hatchback which returns approx 40 - 45 MPG ( A lot of this is motorway miles) the 2.0 TDCI I had was an estate version which used to return 50 -55 MPG

Hi everyone,
First of all best of seasons greetings, been looking at Grand Scenic from a well known car supermarket, year old petrol dynamic 7 seater for £7700, low mileage. Been reading the forum on the diesel French engines, and basically been put off any modern common rail engine, and poor dealer knowledge on these if they go wrong. SO the question is how safe a buy is the 1.6 VVT version of these with manual box. I know these have well known coil pack problems but is an easy fix. Scenic is good size with occasional 7 seat use and good 2nd hand prices. Low mileage use for SWMBO so economy not too important. Thoughts?

Because the brand is seen as poor, if you get a good one, then you are laughing.
Ive just sold a mk1 megane (1.6 petrol) that Ive owned for nearly 6 years, and I had 2 electrical faults in that time, putting 65k on it. Price I paid was 3.5k and sold it for 1k.
My wife recently returned to her car to find the nearside wing
mirror glass missing. No other damage and wires disconnected.
Having paid £80 for a replacement I can only assume it was
a case of theft. I'm astonished!

Thanks meldrew - I thought with a catch that had not been lubricated it would have been stick shut.
Section 4B - "Do you need to wear glasses or corrective lenses when driving?"
I pass the standard eyesight test for licences by a large margin, however I sometimes use distance glasses on motorways in order to make out the furthest objects early, for improved safety. Do I need to answer "yes"? I fear that, if I do, and have an accident when not wearing them, I will be penalised. Read more
Many thanks for postings and I will continue as before. I had an eye test five months ago. No deterioration compared with the last and I can easily pass the "read the number plate" Highway Code test now.
All this 25% off new cars has made me think .... what else can you haggle down on price ?
One of our sales guys went to an Indian Takeaway and asked for a discount .... he got 10% off and some free popodoms !! Read more
Oh I know, he had it booked in and had a job came in that clashes so he asked me a favour. He's a self employed joiner (or carpenter as he insists) - up to his eyes in work and charging full whack, there's sill money around. Nice morning out for me pretending to be an artisan.
Hi,
I have a peugeot 306 2001, 1.6 meridian. The other day I put new battery in, took it for a spin but the positive terminal was loose so it brought up the ECU light as it juddered for a few moments. I reconnected pos terminal and car runs no problem I've tried disconnecting battery for 10 mins and reconnecting but the light stays on. Car is running perfectly and I don;t have time to take to dealers just to get light extinguished (I have recent diagnosis of serious illness and am currenly undergoing treatment). Does anyone know how to clear the clear the lamp.
Many thanks for any reply.

Driver who killed father and son and injured mother on M62 jailed for 2 lots of 8 years (concurrent). Ploughed into the back of the family's Punto whilst driving an Audi Q7 at high speed, over the limit and masturbating at the same time. He had already been reported by a motorist for wildly erratic driving.
Wish it had been consecutive. He also got a 15 year ban but I don't suppose this will worry him too much. Family were on the way to Manchester Airport for a holiday.
