Indeed, he got off lightly.

For killing two innocent people driving Brahms and Liszt
A slap on the wrist
But for the act of masturbation
Eternal damnation.

Trouble is, no length of sentence will ever be a true deterrent . Once your body is full of alcohol, you don't weigh up whether you are likely to spend X years in prison if you then drive and have an accident. Sure, we can punish an individual after the event but how do we stop it from happening in the first place.?

You can't legislate for the dim-witted, unfortunately.

Details of this case already posted towards the bottom of an earlier thread:

This is the problem with alchohol related cases, you have to ask did the person know what they were doing atm? I think probably yes. If I ever flipped and drunk and drove (lots hope that never ever ever happens!) I am sure I would be driving round everywhere at 5 mph knowing I wasn't fit, and hopefully I would get done for drink driving.
The problem is the damage has been done, what would a long prison serntance actually achieve? I think there should be more testing to ensure one is mentally fit to get behind the wheel as apart of the driving test and maybe this would help cut down these accidents.
Nothing will bring back the dead and that is the problem here, 8 years is far too little for this crime, but life also would not bring them back, so I have no opinion of if the punishment is enough or not. All the government can do is try and make it harder for these accidents to happen in the first place.
