saxo2000

Hi there I am having problems with my Saxo alarm. Its a 2000/W registration Saxo and the alarm has set itself and the fob will not turn off the alarm. The only way I have made it stop is to disconnect the battery which is a problem as I can?t drive the car. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can turn the alarm off or even where the alarm is in the engine bay so I can disconnect it?

Thanks

Andy

Have you tried the obvious like changing the battery in the key fob. Or the spare key fob?

Does your car have an immobiliser with a chip in the key? If so try putting it in the ignition and turning it. The car will read the key's chip and turn off the alarm/immobiliser.

Hi - I am selling my car which I imported. Several potential buyers have said they want to buy it through a finance company, but the finance companies concerned will not finance an import.

Does anyone know a finance company that finances imported cars?

If selling privately the buyer would either get a secure (on house) or unsecured loan for the money. The import surely is irrelevant. Sounds like someone who cannot raise the money. Hang on for someone who can.

Going over potholes has buckled ? I am told ? two of my alloy wheels. (The Toyota garage didn?t mention the damage when it replaced one of the tyres; the independent tyre place didn?t say anything when it replaced another; but hey-ho.)

Toyota invite me to replace these wheels at £230 each. Tyres would be extra.

It seems to me that I can get a set of 4, with tyres, for the cost of two wheels. I would be happy with the cheapest reliable option.

The problem is I am coming across names I associate with being spotty and 17 (Wolfrace, for example) and I have no idea what sort of wheels are appropriate to a middle-aged gent who values reliability and anonymity above bling. What are the sensible options?

If anyone has done this, is it likely to be a change the insurers charge for?

I would be prepared to buy 5 wheels in order to avoid having to replace the lot in due course when I buckle them again ? I gather this will require a special negotiation ? and I wonder if anyone has done this, and how much the extra one costs.

Are steel wheels an option?

The OE wheel is 215 50 17, which suits the car (or perhaps my usually sedate driving) very well. Most of the wheel websites offer only ? 45 ? or even ? 40 ?. Is this likely to make a difference?

adverse camber

Yes, a more compliant ride and possibly slightly less taught turn-in. But Avensises never stuck me as getting driven to within an inch of their lives?

17/18" wheels are fashion statements on ordinary road cars (imho. I prefered my 911 with the 16" wheels over the 17".).

If you are regularly driving over badly potholed roads then the lower the profile the higher the chance of wheel/tyre damage.

I would check the specs - was 17" an option or standard? Maybe check your local dealer and see if they have one in with 16" wheels and have a test drive?

What sort of percentage discount do you think being on the register is worth? For a car that you might pay £1,500 for otherwise?

Frankly there are so many cars around in the £500-999 bracket that I can't see the point in buying a car with issues like this.

The car is an automatic diesel. I start from cold and move off slowly. If I lift off from the accelerator to meet the first speed bump after 30 metres, the revs drop and there is a noise for a second like driving over a cattle grid, accompanied by a judder. Once I'm on the move the problem disappears until the first cold start on the following day. The local main dealer thought it was lack of gearbox oil , but it's not. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Read more

My 7" colour screen has gone blank.

For some time the screen display has been changing or bringing up menus every time I pulled on the handbrake.

Then the other day the radio channels began to change on their own. This seemed to follow me using the remote radio stalk on the steering column. I don't use this stalk very much because it's a bit awkward in it's arrangement.

Then the screen started to go on and off.

Then the screen went white and displayed this message
'Warning ! Reprogramming Sequence'

Now, when I first start the car the screen comes on as normal, but within a few minutes it displays the reprogramming Sequence message, then it goes black and stays black.

What could be happening and does anyone have a solution ?

Could this be a COMM2000 problem ?

How's it goin' everybody.

Can somebody out there help me, please?

The control panel in the above car does not seem to be working for the blower, ie. it is not getting a live feed. Why?

The blower is working as I have taken it out and tried it across the battery.

The resistor pack seems to be O.K. as well as I have tested it.

Can anybody please tell me where to look and for what. The fuses and relays also appear to be working, so what is the problem?

I appreciate your help on this.

Up behind the dash to the left of the clutch pedal is a multipin connector (usually clipped to the side of the heater box).Check the pins/wiring for overheating.hth

Hi all,

My 96 Fiesta had a service y;day and will need approx £700 of works in order to even have a chance of passing the MOT due in Feb. Now the car is worth probably £100 so i see little point in keeping it.

In that case I am now looking at purcahsing a new or newish car for cash but obviously want to spend a smallish amount. I am 24 (nrly 25) and require a low insurance, economic car perfect for driving around manchester, liverpool and the northern motorways inbeween.

I was looking at the C1 which new at the moment costs 6k. This would then mean no MOT, little servicing and £20 car tax for 3 years and which point i sell it for approx 62% of its original price (according to a 'best depreciation survey' released last week.) approx 3k.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of cars, strategies etc that will mean i can achieve most of the above and cheaply run a car for the next few years.

Cheers! Read more

Just an update!

A Fiat dealer near my parents home in somerset has offered me a Panda registered April 08 with 20 miles on the clock (1.1 Active) for £4595.

My 2nd local dealer has told me not to accept any offer as they will guarantee to beat it!

That to me is pretty good for a car with next to 0 miles and I am thinking between them i could haggle down to nearly 4k or certainly get some free servicing or something.

They could do also do me a new 1.2 Dynamic Eco for £5100!
