Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a problem with the egr valve and for the engine management light not to illuminate. The Kalos i own is running very poorly and jumps and stutters at low speed and revs.It has been back to the dealer for various reasons and nobody at the garage seems to be able to fix the thing. The dealer has changed the eccelerator body just a week ago but it hasnt made any difference.A good mechanic friend of mine seems to think it is the egr but the garage say the management light should come on . Please help .

Dear Stevekalos

Facing a similar problem here, 2012. Someone i know bought a Kalos Chevrolet 2008 model, same problems, stalling, poor running at low speeds (low rpm), the accelerator activates differently to the pedal position....

If you can lay your hands on a milli-ammeter - particularly a clamp one - that would be ideal.

Hi guys

Advice please. My wife has a Modus and the day after getting an MOT teh engine management system light came on and we have established its something to do with an environment filter. The car runs fine but a local mechanic (not authorised Renault dealership) has told us it needs a new filter that will cost £169.

The car is 4 years old and has done about 60k miles. It the DCi diesel model.

Has anyone else had this problem and does £169 seem reasonable if you have had one replaced?

If that's all there is to go on; then it looks as though replacement is the only option.

Had oil and filter changed at a national outlet in september, couple of weeks later checked oil and was halfway on dipstick.Bought a litre bottle of magnet 5/30
which national had put in and topped back up, each time iv checked oil iv had to top up
today i topped up again looked at bottle and noticed iv used 750ml (3/4) litres.

Checked the print out i was given to see the mileage when it was changed which was 65,830 looked at present mileage and is now 69,938.Would 3/4 litre be considerd excessive over 4000 miles. The engine is a 1.6 petrol does not smoke under load as i often look in head lights of cars behind at night. My old Fiesta was blue smoking like a steam train, on the first MOT it says emission test terminated due to excessive smoke :D. I put some stop smoke in and it passed, but the car was scrapped very shortly afterwards.

However with the stop smoke in it passed the MOT with flying colours in terms if emisions which would suggest the cat was fine, though they do say it does damage the cat I think it has to excessive.

I had the car serviced yesterday and they changed all the spark plugs. Apparently there was oil in there. I sent hubby out to check that they indeed had changed them and there was oil in there. I have driven 6miles since they were changed. Any help? Read more

>>They then serviced it, without rectifying what is probably a very minor fault

The garage is in a bit of a difficult position - if they don't do the extra work, they come under fire. If they do the extra work, then others would complain about unauthorised work.

Obviously, the right thing to do is to ask the customer - did they attempt to?

My Clarion Radio / CD player in my Navara has just broken again. I have decided to replace it. I would quite like a DAB radio / CD player as I live in the Highlands and there are few regular radio stations. I do not have MP3 / IPOD so feel fairly indifferent to them. I have a bluetooth connection from my satnav for my mobile phone so I am also indifferent to that. There are four speakers already in the Navara which I will not replace.

I believe fitting a DAB radio may cause a bit of work as you require a windscreen aerial?

I have identified a couple of potential models:-

1 Sony CDX-DAB6650
2 JVC KD-DB101

Any recommendations / guidance would be much appreciated

Others have mentioned the benefits of an ipod - I don't have one yet msyelf - but I have been researching DAB radio add-ons for the ipod.

If you google "DAB ipod" you will find that there are several add-on DAB radios for the ipod now so perhaps this is the way forward as you will get yourself both the DAB and the ipod and both will be portable.

Robi, made by Roberts, is one such DAB radio add-on for the ipod. The iDAB, made by Intempo, is another. Amazon sell both and a few versions of the later. Check the Amazon reviews for pros and cons.

I am not convinced that the solution truly exists for an ipod with a DAB add-on for the car yet though but it might be worth you investigating this option.

Bit of an odd one this. I changed a few months back from a Focus II 2.0TDCI to a Focus III 1.6 TDCI . This new one never seems to illuminate the glow plug light when starting her up. At first I thought it was due to the summer weather even though the old car always lit it for a couple of seconds prior to starting. Now after some colder weather I've decided it can't be that .
Can anyone else confirm the presence of a glow plug light on a similar car. I'm assuming it should be on the speedo like on the previous car. I suppose I might just have a defective bulb from new.

Thanks . Read more

Hi, I am so glad that you posted this thread, I have just recently purchased a 2008/58 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCI, I too have never seen the glow plug light illuminated and it was starting to worry me a tad, its looking though as this maybe the norm on our model ?

Am considering buying a new Panda as a cheap run around. Fiat have now introduced the ECO versions which, if I understand correctly, differ only in the oil and tyres (low resistance) fitted but these lower the CO2 to 119 (which is good for tax and possibly congestion charge).

I am confused over these changes and am not sure whether to stick with the standard model (132 CO2?). The dealer is understandably unhelpful.
(1) will the grip/handling/ride/braking be affected in any way with the low resistance tyres (I don't think the Panda's levels of grip are especially high anyway)?
(2) what happens if, later in life, standard oil and "normal" tyres are fitted (if they can be) - and how do the DVLC know that it is no longer a 119 CO2 car?
(3) conversely, can the standard car be fitted with the tyres and the oil changed to reduce to CO2?

If the changes are so basic, why doesn't Fiat change all versions rather than having both?

Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

Having owned my 306 for a number of years I have noticed a tendency for the front passenger side tyre to wear on the outer edge. I have had the wheels aligned at my local tyre fitters on a number of occasions. I have also heard the 306 can be to quite hard on it's tyres.

Does anyone have any insight into this? The tyre is now starting to look worn on the outer edge again. Should I just get another alignment done or do I need to have the issue investigated further?

Being technically ignorant when it comes to anything car, any advice will be gratefully received! Read more

Both my 306s have run their front left hand tyres off quickly. It is because I enjoy the car's handling round roundabouts! Cheers,
