Hi all

We recently purchased a Ford Focus from a dealership, everything's great except for the fact that the rear window and rear side windows are constantly fogging up. the front window does too but not as much.

I can understand if this was happening if I turned the aircon on but I don't.

I'm thinking of going back to the dealership but before I do I wondered if there was an obvious fix or if it's an issue with all Ford Focuses?

Thanks in advance. Read more

If you squeeze the sides of the glove box when its open, the glove box can be opened all the way and behind there, you will find the damper that controls the outside air intake, and the recirculation of the cabin air. In my case, I found the damper totally open, which in turn does not let any fresh air in. The damper stayed open or in the Recirculation Mode, whether I turned the button on or off.....I noticed that the shaft from the actuator motor is spinning freely when I turn on and turn off the recirculation button. What I did was tape the damper shut, removed the electrical harness from the actuator, and drove around with the fan off until the windows got nice and foggy. I then turned the fan on high, and set the dial to blend(def and floor), and in a matter of minutes, the fog was cleared up. The back side windows took a little longer, but then I turned the dial on to bi level and that helped out. This is a temporary fix until I find out how to fix the damper. Only draw back until then is that cant switch over to recirculation. I can live with that though....better this way than to get the fog. Hope this helps.

Just been wondering, in the interests of transmission longevity, what's the best method when stopped at a red light or in queueing traffic with an auto? Slip it into neutral or leave it in drive with the parking brake on? (unless the guy behind has his front foggies on-then give 'em a tan I say!) ;-) Read more

Now that I have had more than a year with the DSG Touran, and almost a year with an automatic Mazda 6, I can report that I usually knock them both in to neutral when coming to a stop at traffic lights.

The DSG Touran creeps, like a standard automatic.

So I still feel that the "handbrake on, gearlever to neutral" principle is probably the safest way to go whatever kind of gearbox a car has, in order to prevent unwanted movement in unexpected circumstances.

Vauxhall seem to change their mind about the interval so doing it around now is probably safer..

Local Indy garage did mine for £200 using Vauxhall kit (mine is the diesel so yours might be slightly cheaper)

i been browsing on the net and reading various magazines on the new honda jazz, i myself have the old jazz a 2003 1.4 se, now autocar tested the new jazz a 1.4 with ivtec 16 valve and the fuel economy was 35 mpg and was according to them fair, did honda say that the fuel economy of the new jazz was 53 mpg?

the old jazz probably got superior fuel economy in real driving just wondering if any one got the new jazz and what is the fuel economy like.

pity they got rid of the old idsi engine, the advantage of the old idsi engine is that the torque figure is at the lower rev range compared to the new engine.

wondering if honda making or mulling over the thought of a type r jazz??

The most common reason for this is that the waste ink reservoir is full.

Have a look at: www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/30575

This well known utility could be useful too: www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

To move the cartridges holder you normally have to use the Maintenance feature with Epson models.

I leave my Epson R300 switched on permanently, as it avoids the needless head cleaning routine it would go through otherwise each time it is switched on.

LTI - Make black cabs
LDV - Make vans

Jaguar coventry - Make jags now owned by Tata
Vauxhall/Opal - Elemsre Port - Make right hand drive Opals for the UK and Irish markets.

SAIC MG - Longbridge - Much scaled down but make MGs, was the main Austin Rover plant.
Land Rover - Owned by Tata and built in coventry?

Hi,

My cousin owns a 2002 52 Focus 1.6, with about 60K on the clock. During a recent visit, she told me that the oil light had occasionally started coming on, often after the brake was applied (flashing on, then off... not staying on).

A few enquiries revealed no recent service (ie over 12 months) or oil check (I had to show her the hidden release behind the Ford badge!). I know the importance of annual oil changes and fortnightly checks, and that the oil light isn't a low oil warning light etc, so I don't intend this post to generate polite "told you so"-esque responses.

A few dipstick checks (cold engine) revealed no reading on the dipstick (and still no reading after a short journey). Compared with my Daihatsu, the upper and lower levels on the dipstick are very close. I can only assume that the oil level was very low, but there was clearly oil in it!

A quick trip to Halfords later, and I put in 2 litres (sump capacity circa 6). After an hour, there was still no reading on the dipstick... and no the dipstick has not snapped.

Again, my assumption is that there is simply not enough oil in there to register on the dipstick, and that, because of the dipstick markings being so close, the sump needs to be at least half full before it shows on the dipstick.

Is my assumption correct? I was wary about over-filling it, especially if the dipstick was in fact playing silly beggars, having done this to a friend's Ka in the past with rather smelly and smoky consequences.

Of course I explained about the urgent need for a service and oil change... but (as with many people) they only lift the bonnet when things go wrong.

Any advice appreciated. The car is otherwise running fine. Read more

Screwloose

It holds 4.25 litres; so, if the light was flashing, it was probably down to it's last litre.

Adding another 2, still makes it at least a litre short; so add some more, half-a-litre at a time, until it shows on the stick.

The engine damage will already have been done; so maybe think of P/X-ing it.

Frankly; she should be walking anyway. If she doesn't even check the oil, what are the tyres, wipers and the inside of the windscreen like.

Hi all,

my dear polo's clutch has started to slip, at least I think so, I don't know much about mechanics when it comes to cars. When you accelerate, especially when giving it some throttle, the rev picks up but there's no acceleration. As far as I understand, it's the clutch that slips?

So, how expensive would it roughly be to get a garage to fix it? I've looked for clutch kits online and they seem to be around £50 (?), but I suppose it's a lot of work replacing a clutch, hence it can be quite expensive?

Grateful for any info / help on this

thanks! Read more

So finally gonna get this sorted, got time at a workshop tomorrow and will source the clutch today from euro car parts. They've got two different clutches, one cheaper and one more expensive, is it worth the extra dough to get the more expensive one? Strongly doubt I'll be driving the car for more than 2-3 years, still worth paying up a bit more?
