This has been over on Volvo OC for about a week or 2 and I think that it would be beneficial to post over here. If people want to look for the original thread it's in the General thread.

"I've had 15! Notice of Intended Prosection for speeding!
Yep....I really have had 15 Notice of Intended Prosection for speeding!

and yep i was driving.

However, they were all at work and in the response car going to emergencies, and they all arrived on station for me today along with everyone elses

For some reason, a certain police force that covers my area (naming no names) has decided to start issuing us all with NIPs if we go more then 20mph over the speed limit. No other force i know of is doing that.

Even though we verify we are on the way to a 999 call, they have decided to issue us all with NIPs and have to submit a report to them why we were going over 20mph above the speed limit, and then they will decided if to go a head with the NIP or not.

So people. If you start seeing Ambulances with the blues on etc driving not very fast to emergencies you now know why....You know it's only someones life we're dealing with and not some bilking or testing out our new police car!!!

So maybe Plod should appoint a senior Plod (with vast motoring experience) as the chap who looks at various incidents involving speed and circumstance BEFORE they start sending NIPs to poor paramedics and rozzers and applying the 'benefit of the doubt' rule.

that's what used to happen...before everything was civilianised

Hello, I just purchased a 1999 (T) 1.8 Focus Zetec Estate Ghia. Car seems great... had no problems at all, until... I turned on the Air Conditioning.... After about 5 mins the speedo dropped right down to zero, the engine warning light, oil light, and pretty much every other light on the dash came on, the power steering also went. I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off. When I started up again (with AC turned off) everything was A-OK again...

Is it possible for a problem with the AC to cause these problems???

Any advice/ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated....

until then, i shall simply leave AC off...

A post card landed from the Ford garage today encouraging me to come in for a service.

Nothing wrong with that, but it contained my name, address and a nicely drawn black on yellow depiction of my registration number.

I'm instinctively uncomfortable with all those details appearing in the same place, particularly when there's no need for it.

Handy for cloning, if nothing else.

Am I right to be concerned?

Found the DP statement - didn't even know there was such a thing, so thanks for that, PU.

As predicted, it contains stuff about using data for marketing purposes.

I've sent the company a short and politely worded complaint - I think that's about all the post card is worth, no need to make a meal of it.

They promise to reply within 48 hours - let's see if they do.

When Ford intorduced the Focus ST there was a premium of around £1000 for the bright orange.
Most manufacturers charge you for the hue of your choice unless it's white or red.
How about £15,255 ? This is not for some exotica, that is what you can pay your friendly Alfa Romeo dealer to paint your brand new £23k list price Alfa 159 saloon in "Special 8C" paint.
Following on from the "Do insurance companies write off cars too easily" thread, here is a candidate for early write off for the most minor of parking knock.

The phone rang and I've just picked up the ex-directory home phone: A woman's voice said:

"You've been called by The Outbound calls department of Xxxxx Car Insurance, but unfortunately we don't have a member of staff available to speak to you right now. We apologise for the inconvenience and will call you back later"

What!

Well at least they said who they were.

We had a rash of calls in the early summer from an 0442 (Hemel Hempstead/Berkhamstead) number. As soon as I, or one of the teenage Bromps, answered the phone the line went dead. Getting hacked off after the third call on my day off I called back. Several engaged tones later I got a recorded message indicating that SWMBO's car insurers, Swinton, had been calling and giving a Manchester number to ring to opt out of marketing calls. Rang Manch number by return, made very clear that further calls were unwelcome, and heard nowt more.

Similar experience last month with British Gas, agian calls were from a number CLI could record but otherwise silent/anonymous.

In each case 100% of over half a dozen calls were "silent"

I get this problem (plus at the same time one rear indicator wont work) and posted it on this site earlier in the year. No one replied. If you find out what it is let me know.

I had heard that the local dealer was going to be getting the new Jazz today so I phoned this morning and found out that the launch was going to be in a local hotel just outside town.

First impressions are favourable. Very well put together, nice finish and comfortable seats. We didn't have time to go for a test drive as we were on our lunch break but we will book one in the New Year when the i-Shift is out to see what that is like. Read more

When the new CRV they came out they continued selling the old model for ages afterwards albeit at more or less the same price. I recall reading a review on the TG site of the CRV and they advised buying a slightly used old model CRV for about 13K which was many thousands less than the new asking price.

Hello, looking for a bit of advice. We bought our focus in April with 21000 on the clock and were told it had the 3year manufacturers warranty. We were told to bring it in after 12k miles fo a service. Went to the garage yesterday to enquire and was told that it would be £210 which seems really excessive to me since another Ford dealer told my other half it would be around £130. Is £210 too much?
Secondly the girl on the desk told us our car had missed a service as the previous owner didn't get the 12.5K done and the first was when the garage received it at 21K so we would be looking at getting the 37.5K service. I said we'd be as well waiting until the car got to 37.5K rather than getting one now and she told me it would affect our warranty.
Surely we should have been told that when we bought the car as we could have rectified the problem before now.
Do you have to take the car to the dealer for servicing during the warranty period or is it valid with any reputable qualified mechanic? Unless it will impact on my warranty I very much doubt we will have the sevice done at Ford as I have a perfectly good local mechanic who charges less than half of what Ford qouted.

any info appreciated, thanks. Read more

No you dont have to take any car whether its new or secondhand to a dealer whikst its still under warranty, google BER act 2003 and read it for yourself. The main dealers wont tell you this fact but if you question them they have to tell you the truth.I bought my car new and it had a 3 yr warranty,I never once let the dealerships service it but it went back 3 times for warranty work with no questions asked

You're stuck in traffic and your favourite track comes on so you start tapping wheel and then break into a full blown drum solo.

What music gets you doing the 'steering wheel' bongo's?

For me it's Sussudio - Phil Collins or Easy Lover - Collins/Bailey.

What about you?

I saw Rainbow live at the Granby Halls in Leicester in 1970 something, along with Motorhead, Saxon and Quo.

I didn't manage to get a ticket for AC/DC but I'm hoping they put on some more dates.

Does anybody know the law in relation to tinted windows on vehicles (side windows and windscreen)? Read more

John S

AFAIK windscreens must be 75% transmission, front sides 70% transmission, and that's how most cars with tints come out of the factory. The light transmission figures are shown in the 'labels' on the windows. As a result, in most cases, any additional tint on the factory windows screen or front side windows is not legal.
