When Ford intorduced the Focus ST there was a premium of around £1000 for the bright orange.
Most manufacturers charge you for the hue of your choice unless it's white or red.
How about £15,255 ? This is not for some exotica, that is what you can pay your friendly Alfa Romeo dealer to paint your brand new £23k list price Alfa 159 saloon in "Special 8C" paint.
Following on from the "Do insurance companies write off cars too easily" thread, here is a candidate for early write off for the most minor of parking knock.
How much is this paint per litre ?

At that price I'd have thought getting an insurance quote would be difficult!

I would rather pay £1000 for the car to be NOT bright orange. It's awful!

i thought that orange paint on boy racer focus was an advaned nob warning system of some kind, always thought it was quite clever of ford to work out how to do it

I like those sporting models in garish colours. Not sure I'd want to keep one on the street in London though, or drive it every day really. But I like them like that. Makes me happy to see them.
I have a Porsche 911 RSR 2.7 in shocking pink on slicks and it looks fabulous. Only four inches long unfortunately.

I once ordered a Capri in Signal Amber. Sadly(?) the colour was dropped so the dealer delivered Signal Orange instead, without telling me. He got to keep it.

Orange Focus
A Ford marketing man told me the orange colour appeared in the television advert, but was not available to buy because no one thought it would sell.
They started to make them on the hurry up after customers asked dealers for the same colour as "the one on the telly".

You might think it's awful but it's less likely to be bumped in carparks and it's much more visible to other drivers than the ubiquitous metallic silver.

I can't believe anyone would pay 65% of the list price for paint on a standard saloon.
The car is not special enough for collector status and I can't see it adding too much to the residuals, even if it added 65% to the trade-in value at three years it's on an Alfa which means it will add buttons to the value.
This is not a knock Alfa thread, I love Italian cars but I'm struggling with any logic on this one...

I painted my Land Rover 90 orange. I seem to think it was about £4.99 for the paint and £1.50 for the brush. Quite a long time ago though so it might cost over a tenner now.

I'm with gmac. If this was say a £150,000 vehicle with optional (stupidly priced) paint at £15k then fine. But for this premium on a car like this.... would anyone pay even if mega rich? You'd go for a better car. Not knocking the Alfa (I'd have one if on the company list and not too expensive) but this price if true is silly.
So is it more for marketing/publicity and only stupid people will go for it. Most winge about the £350 optional cost for metallic/mica paint!

I paid £15 per litre last year. Thinners about £10

I have always maintained that provided a car isn't an out-and-out offensive colour to my eyes (so that's any of the more lurid shades of yellow, pink or light green), I couldn't care less what colour the car is.
I've had black, green, blue and red cars. Much more interested in how it goes and how often it breaks.

It's may only be available on the top variants, and may include other options. Off-the-shelf prices will range from £30,000 to £60,000. tinyurl.com/5ra2w9
