What are the best answers to give to obtain a lower insurance premium without risking invalidating the policy?

Clearly speeding, motoring and accidents/claims must be declared freely.

But I have no worries on that front :)

The details are cross-referenced but sadly only to the insurer's benefit.

For example I own two cars and am the main driver on one and secondary driver on the other (the more expensive as the main driver is our au pair who is 21). I drive this other car about once a quarter to make a short journey but a claim I have had on my other (main) policy has to be logged, even though it was a no fault accident where the entire costs and excess were recovered in my favour.

It seems that this claim has as much impact on one policy as it does on the other which makes no sense whatsoever.

Tried Confused and Go Compare. Any others I should try?

Incidentally I got a renewal quote for £1100 from current insurer. Got £520 from the same insurer via Confused then realised I had forgotten to mention on confused a claim for damaged bodywork following a tyre blow-out this year, so I called the insurer and explained the situation and asked them to re-quote taking this into consideration. They added £80 to the Confused price so I bought it there and then, but they said I had to call to cancel current policy otherwise it would be automatically re-newed. I did this and the person I spoke to said I should not have accepted the revised price because I was deliberately misleading them because I had not asked them to consider the impact on my no-claims which had gone from 5 years to 2 years because of the blow-out claim - which was mentioned on page three of five of my renewal notice.

I have to say lost my rag a bit here and pointed out that I had called them to make sure that they were quoting with the right info and it was not my job to make sure that they understood that a claim might affect my no-claims bonus.

I was more than irritated by this approach and looking again at my renewal notice, amongst other errors such the wrong registration and mis-spelled names of the crivers it lists the blow-out as a "fault" claim. Is it normal for a blow-out to be a fault of the policy holder?

Web comparison sites are brokers - as such they can vary their commission and therefore your premium.

There is no best comparison site - try them all you may find a gegree of variation of the same cover and company.

I saved £23 on a £171 premium.

Just had a realy worring thing happen to me with the ST170 focus. On the way to get the girlfriend from work. Just started the car and pulled out of the close where i live. Pulling onto the a road, i suddenly loose about 95% of power from my engiene. At first i thought ive put it into 4th by accident so try putting it into second this is not the issue the car is in 2nd but there was just hardly any power at all from the engiene. It was taking about 5 second for the rpm guage to rise 1000rpm. This happens for about a minuite so i consider turning home then all of a sudden car is back to normal. What i did realise though whlist and after this was happenign was the second oil guage in from the left kept rising and fallign whenever id try to accelarate .id not noticed this before but dunno if this could be a reason for this happening. Im worried guys any ideas?

also if i rev the engine hard as teh revs begin to fall below approximately the 2000 rpm mark i get a suckign noise that appears to be coming from the front of the car and a series of pops from the exhast backbox at teh same time

Thanks in advance for any help guys. Read more

The PCV hose is basically on the back of the engine.. its a quite a fat hose.. you should be able to see it if you peer behind the intake hose. (the one that connects to your air filter box)
actually.. all the hoses are on the back of the engine.. just find them and trace them.. give them a squeeze.. and see whether they're collapsing.. there are small ones on the back of the throttle body that crack at the T junctions... sorry for the late reply... i haven't checked this thing for ages because nobody seemed to be helping me with my problem.. >< very annoying.. hope that helps.. if you need more help email me on djmontaraathotmail.co.uk that way i wont miss your message

I have a 1994 Audi Avant 2.6 SE and when using the headlights on full beam, when I flip them off sometimes all the lights go out, this can also happen when the indicators are used.

Any ideas why this happens ?

Thanks

What unexpected things have other backroomers discovered in their second-hand (sorry, pre-used) vehicles? My daughter recently bought a VW from a well-known car supermarket, and while inspecting it we discovered over 30 quid in coins in the spare-wheel well. Presumably the previous owner's kids amused themselves with mum's purse in the back seat. I'm surprised rattling (or shortage of change) didn't become noticeable though - unless that was the reason for selling ... Read more

Slightly off-topic, but Humph's comment reminded me of the man in the changing room of a squash club, struggling to pull on a very tight girdle. His friend asks him "How long have you been wearing that?" He replied "Ever since my wife found it in the glove compartment of the car"...

OK, bit of a conundrum - my TDCi is occasionally getting the dreaded glow-plug light on. This always happens in changing down to 2nd gear!

My theory is that it's actually being caused by the engine stalling, because the 2nd gear on my car is quite difficult to engage. I have the car booked in for a gearbox oil change, since it's done 150K and I suspect this has never had one (can't find it on the service manifests). If that doesn't cure the action (the other gears aren't good to change, either), I'll look at a new clutch (on the original clutch, too).

But, my question is this, could this also be a sign of - dual mass flywheel issues, and/or injector problems? Read more

Hello.

I have recently got a 5 seater Mazda Premacy.
The user manual says that for safety reasons, babies/children seat should never be fitted on the central-rear seat. So, only 2 child seats at the rear.
It does not explain why the central one should not be used.
There are 3 separate, equal-size seats on the rear, so I cannot explain why It's not allowed to fit 3 children on the 3 rear sits.

My hope is that there must be a device or a special seat for the rear-central seat.

Any help please?

Thanks.

Well, going to have a look at a 1.25 Si from 1996 tomorrow.

FSH up to 68K, done 89K, 5 owners, tax gonna run out end of month, had it about 3 years. New exhaust. Sony mp3/cd/radio. Recent new shocks. £700

Gonna aim to get 6 months tax on it and pay around 550ish depending on what it's like and how flexible he is.

Luke.
