Hi, quick query - what engine was used for the Vito 113. I know its petrol and I know its 2L but apart from that have no info on this engine so just wanted to know what other models it was used in.

Many thanks... Read more

Hi, My Ibiza 1.9 TDI Sport has a broken gearbox, I can only select reverse, 3rd and 6th. I had a 60k service some 700 miles ago and the car has been fine until Friday night when the gearbox went without warning. On the previous service the gear oil was topped up. My questions are: 1) has anyone else had this problem 2) Any ideas on cost, how long is a piece of string-type question I know! :-) 3) During the last service could the gearbox filler cap have been left off causing me to lose enough oil during the 700 miles for the box to fail and where would I look to find this?

Many thanks,
Bizz.

Hi,

Has anyone got any experience/comments on these engines please.

Aprox 125k, not sure if its the original belt or not. Breakage happened at low speed.

Am hoping for comments as to likely damage and possible repair cost.

Thanks Read more

A very near miss. NO damage - just a new belt required ...............

In that case; perhaps it would be safer to let your garage do it.

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my Mk3.5 fiesta. Periodically when i'm driving it will start revving between 2-3000 between gear changes with my foot off the pedal. Sometimes I will notice it accelerating from low speed also with my foot off the pedal. When I come to a stop in neutral it will hold these revs, sometimes 'pulsing' between 2-3000 for a few seconds (occasionally longer, has done it for up to 10-20sec to me before) before dropping back to idle.

In addition sometimes it will display a similar problem except with underrevving, where the engine barely revs over 500. Gear changing becomes jerky and i'll find it slowing down to a crawl without any power due to the low revs, and again when coming to a stop it will recover to 8-900rpm after a few seconds (but occasionally longer!).

When starting the engine sometimes it will start and go straight to 500 revs as if there is no choke and then usually stalls if i give it no power.

When I first got the car about 6 months ago displayed both issues usually at least once or twice every trip, but then after a few long motorway runs seemed to go away until I changed my oil and set the tappets. Again problem went away until last week when i replaced the oil pressure sensor. Both times i'd removed the air filter and had a poke around so i'm thinking this is due to me disturbing some dodgy sensors or wiring??

Thanks,

There are three; on that one, check the idle control actuator.

Hi all,

I have a Vauxhall Agila and wanted to add some additional driving lamps which would come on when i switched to high beam.

I had thought this would be a simple matter ,i.e just wire in using relay and +ve feed from the switched live to high beam but no...apparently the Agila, I suspect, uses negative switching.

I discovered that the existing headlamps have permanent live feeds to them and therefore the steering whell stalk must somehow switch the negative line?

I did some probing and experimentation with a test meter with no conclusive results as the matter is further complicated by the fact that i dont have a wiring diagram!

All clues welcome,,also does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram?? Is it the same loom as the Corsa??

Yes being switched off both side will be at +12v measure them turn on and one will be 0v. Ensure the height and spacing of the extra lights are legally compliant. Regards Peter

Hello, my mate as the 05 plate 318i 2.0ltre petrol bmw.

He just took it to a local garage for a service and they said because it went over the service limit they can't take off the service indicator?

They said it must go back to bmw for this to be done? is this true?

I remember older bmw's you could buy a tool to plug into the harness to turn off the service lights, can't you do the similar thing to these?

hello mate {edited to remove 'txt' talk}

not sure if the 05 318 is the same principle as the 03 320d but i did a search on resetting service on the net and found the you can reset it using your trip buttons .... here is the a copy of what i found hope it helps ........

Found this on another site. It worked on my E46 2002 Compact.

BMW 2001 to current ; Ignition Off (Position 0) ; Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY) ; Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display* ; Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes ; While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. After the display has shown the new interval you should see "END SIA" for about 2 seconds Note: that if the "Reset" or "Re" does not flash, then you have not met the minimum consumption level and cannot reset

Note: On vehicles with "High" cluster, you will also see the amount of fuel (in litres) remaining until next service

Is there a way to search the Technical Matters forum & show results by threads rather than posts.

Currently you see each post in thread listed, so if a thread had 50 posts, each post will be listed as a result rather the 1 thread.

Makes it difficult to scan for threads that may be relevant, as you have masses of posts for each thread to page through.

I just want to see each thread, not all posts within the thread. Read more

In short - no. Not unless you narrow your search by adding data to the other boxes, or restrict your search to a particular date (ie, one month, 3 months, < one year, and so on).

Although it's not the same engine as the Probe; it does have Mazda roots.

The main difference is the unreliable distributor has gone and it's got a coilpack. If it's had plugs and genuine leads; that coilpack's 6 output voltages would be my first test, after checking codes and data.
