Hi folks, I havve a rover 75 CDT conn SE Auto.
Driving back from shops, it lost power then refused to engage any gears (auto).
I've tried disconnecting battery to reset as mentioned elsewhere but no joy.
There is no error message on dash (ie EP).
The engine under tray came off recently, could this have anything to do with it ?
Many thanks

If you have lost all drive, forwards and reverse, have you checked the oil level in the gearbox?
My daughter's leaving the country for six months, and will be laying up her five year old MX5, by leaving it outside on a hard standing. I've suggested a car cover and solar trickle charger (although they seem mutually incompatible) to no avail. I've convinced her to put the hard top on. I've read the FAQs, and done a forum search.
It'll be SORNed and have insurance cover.
I'll over inflate the tyres.
Leave the handbrake off, in gear with a brick under one wheel as the ground slopes.
Disconnect battery? I assume it'll go flat otherwise with residual current drawn for clock, immobiliser, alarm etc.
Spray around engine compartment with WD40 as a rodent deterrent.
Any advice, comments, additions or deletions to the above? I'll be having a battle to take the simplest precautions, as she's convinced 'oh, it'll be alright'. Read more
Be very careful if the cambelt is nearing its term of office.
Not too much of a worry for the OP's MX5 - merely an inconvenience rather than a disaster on them.
Having to replace gear box oil. Can you please tell me what type of oil I should use. thanks. Read more

At last, after several last second forecourt-swerve, aborted attempts in recent months. Yes, forced myself to try it.. even though I could feel the extra £2.50p being extracted like a tooth.
Full tank of the `best` stuff.
You know I`m a bit of a cynic on fuels and additives and easy on the cash I `release` in that allegedly traditional, Yorkshire way.
It sounded quieter on the way home from the filling station, that direct injection rattle sounding softer. While appreciating the subjectivity, I`m sure about that as the van has no under-bonnet felt and there is a certain intimacy with the combustion sound.
Best-gas-wind-blather-no-name-no-pack-drill Derv, there are supposed to be a troop of fairies or something similar in there too, administering to the HP pump with wands and sparkle... You just know that bit is never going to be proved of course..
Objectively though, its the £2.50 extra paid for a tank of the `best` and with my Eco-crate, that`s 30 or so, miles lost. All before the premium fuel additive fairies even get out of bed to try to magic it back.....
It is quieter.. but so what?

First indications are that there is around a 4mpg loss on a van that consistently does 61/62mpg around the City on a regular, cold start run.
Put it this way. Its out on the drive right now with 57mpg showing on the computer and in 2 years of doing this morning run its never returned a figure under 60mpg.
Anyone know of a supplier of boot / loadspace liners big enough to cope with "whole" loadspaces ? In other words the space created when all seats are folded flat in an estate car for example. There seem to be plenty of items for lining boots but haven't been able to find one capable of covering the large space. I guess the cheap alternative is to buy a bit of lino and cut it to size myself. Just didn't fancy a Roman tiled cushion effect car boot was all.

Any thoughts ?
P.S. Cars in mind are a Mondeo Mk3 Estate and a Vauxhall Signum Read more
Thanks GB . Good idea.
Rumbled again ! Honest there was a good reason. The old handle was too close to the name of my wee business and web searches were taking my customers to a certain funny car anorak site ! Don't want them knowing too much do we ?

Running like a sewing machine until forgetful daughter runs out of fuel on Weds. Now it's not a good starter, though it does goes eventually, and it often cuts out when idling once hot, and then won't re-start. On re-starting it revs for a few seconds sometimes, though reverts to normal idle after a few seconds.
I've changed the fuel filter so far, and given it a shot of injector cleaner, but they've had no real impact. I'm wary of investigating further.
Your thoughts/ideas, please! Read more
I'll check it and see.
When I took my new car for its first service, I had the service manual - ready with all the tick boxes and took it to the dealership (Nissan) for its first one. I was somewhat surprised and a little disappointed that the dealer stamp went into the book and nothing else. I'd expected much more for the cost paid.
I've now had 4 services - all at different garages and had (foolishly) expected the boxes to be ticked and more besides.
How does one know whether all tests & checks have been carried out? - sometimes it seems a damn expensive oil change as one can never be sure all work carried out.
Is this why a lot of people do their own servicing - or more likely find a garage to be trusted? Read more
Quacker,
I agree, pay £400 to the Ford place and get an invoice that's hard to understand and a stamp in the book you can barely read.
It's irrational, but I also think there is something missing, not sure what, though.
i have 140000 on the clock what miles do you recon you can get?

But one catastropic fault , and it is crusher time. Some make it , some do not. Just run it till it stops as you are now winning by miles.
but , are you not tempted by the latest gizmos, safety features, shapes, tax bands, colours, sat navs, etc.?
You are not normal sir - Gordon Brown does not want you
thanks i didnt know that, ill just stick wey my own dash then
