I need to know if this has a hydraulic clutch or cable. My son is stuck at Dover with a caravan hung on the back and the clutch pedal stuck down on the floor. All replies greatly appreciated. Read more

A guy I work with had this problem on his '04 Sedona.
IIRC the clutch is hydraulic and on his car the pedal box broke away from the bulkhead.

Hi all

I'm having a bit of bother with my front passenger side electric window. The window will go down OK but it won't come back up unless I keep pushing the switch up loads of times until it does eventually come up quite slowly.

This happens with door both open and closed, ignition on and off. I've tried swapping the switches but that doesn't help either.

I have tried wiggling wires and banging the door etc but to no avail. Has anyone suffered a similar problem and knows how to fix it?

It's an Mi16x4 if that helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply

There's nothing about re-learning in either the handbook or haynes manual. The other three windows all work perfectly. There is however an ECU for the windows in the front drivers side door. Could this be at fault?

Greetings ;

I have to sell my lovely 1995 1275cc Mini Cooper. HJ suggested trying a car club , I've tried the usual search formats but all I can find are clubs in the States . What would be the backroomers tips on finding the right club to advertise this car with - is there a clear leader ?? Read more

There must have been a big classic Mini gathering in the Midlands area,at the weekend,as I saw dozens of proper Mini's heading south on the M1.

I would have said you missed your chance to move it on there.

For the nicest result with the minimum of effort?

Our cars are coming up for their annual polish. I've always used Autoglym Super Resin but am thinking about trying one of these Meguiars products I keep hearing about.

Can anyone recommend one that goes on and off fairly easily? Is the finish as good as Autoglym?

Thoughts please. Read more

So it's a bit like using blue tac to clean something up?

And detailing is...?? (All I've worked out is that it's not what I imagined it to be, which was applying stickers, go-faster stripes and the like.)

Car

On my car the tyres on the car are 205/55R16 on the makers standard alloys fitted when the car was manufactured back in 2000 but just discovered the spare is a steel wheel size 195/65R15

I'm thinking that this is not correct and I may be in for some expense in having to get the correct size wheel & tyre.

I don't know whether it is standard issue or not, but personally I wouldn't worry too much. The rolling radius is more or less the same and the car would be okay to drive on its spare in an emergency. It wouldn't pass an MOT though.

50 MPH max everywhere!

Is this what all roads will be like soon? Herself and I went out yesterday, from Leek in Staffordshire, into Derbyshire, Asbourne, Belper and then north on the A6 to Matlock. All of the open sections of this drive (ie, not 40 or 30 limits in towns and villages) are now limited to 50mph.

This route has gradually been taken over by 50 limit areas and some of the 40 areas seem to have expanded, now the transformation is complete.

This seems to be a trend here in Staffordshire on major A roads, but leaving lesser A and B roads to the 60 mph national limit.....so far.

Is this just happening here or are other areas doing the same?

BBD - try the A65 on a Sunday, it is just like Poland - plenty of fools doing mad overtakes into blind bends. Another biker was killed on there just this weekend.

Idly browsing the Autotrader and saw a 57 reg BMW 520d M Sport at £19995. This is a good £10'000 saving on new. (From a non BMW main dealer). Its the older engine with the lower horse power and higher C02.

Then did a check of BMW dealer cars and similar cars with the newer engine are £4-5000 more expensive.

Is the new engine that much better. (Taking into account the BMW dealer 'premium').

(I absolutely cannot afford to buy it and will not be making any enquiry- repeat 100 times) Read more

In the case of rear wheel steering, I don't see that there's that much technical risk. Electric PAS has now gone through the difficult development type phase, and is now quite reliable. The only additions are;

1) to drive the motor via computer control rather than switching by sensing steering column torque. (When you consider the complexity of the technology that's required to sense steering column torque, putting the motor under the control of a computer is not a difficult step.)

2) to add a feedback sensor which tells th computer how far the rear steering rack has actually moved.

3) to add an ECU. As we know, ECUs are hugely reliable, and any faults are more likely to be found in the wiring, the earths, and the connectors.

>>A lot of this stuff sold to the general public is flimflam, not progress.

Quite a lot of what goes into a modern car, I agree, is flim flam, but, I think rear wheel steering is an obvious step which overcomes some of the limitations in our current rather agricultural steering systems, and is a vital step towards the technical demonstration and public acceptance of computer controlled steering of all 4 wheels independently. Like all other aspects of vehicle control, from ignition advance to anti-lock braking, I'm sure that a computer will do a much better job of it than 99% of us do for 99% of the time.
