Wowee

As a disabled driver, holder of a Blue Badge I applied for exemption 2 weeks ago, we go to london beginning of next week. Application for exemption costs £10 (which I regard as fair)

Anyway, rang Transport for London today to find out why I hadn't received any reply. Apparently they didn't like my photocopy of the blue badge, and it has taken them 10 working days to let me know (letter went out today).

However, apparently, my vehicle is already on an exemptions list, as it's a vehicle leased on the motability scheme.

Now I haven't seen anything in any paperwork, from either transport for london nor from Motability that says this is the case. If it is, then I've just wasted £10 on an application I don't need to make.

Anyone else know this? Read more

I have been informed, but haven't checked it out myself, that if a vehicle has more than 5 seats, then it is exempt from congestion charge ?
A work colleague's friend has a people carrier 7 seats and apparently he's exempt

I am thinking of getting a focus TDCI but am put off rather by things I have heard about their reliablity or the reliability of other similar diesels in general. How right am I to be concrerned or are the problems exagerated. Read more

Actually we have two dodgy old fridges with knackered sealing in our kitchen, and the slightly smaller of the two, whose magnetic door tended to stay ajar unless kicked closed, is now difficult to close at all and springs half an inch open immediately. Nippers, or the Brazilian cleaning person, are probably to blame.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know where I can find "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A" on my Peugeot 307 54 Reg Diesel? I've got this nasty message "Anti-Pollution Fault"

Thanks,

Sorry for being a pain. I had a look under the passenger's seat and the only unit I could find was Magnet Marell - Marwal Systems, would it be it? If yes then do you know which wires I need to look at?

Thanks

Cat or exhaust blocked? What's the context of this fault?

The cylinder head gasket has recently blown on my A4 1.8T Sport. The cooling system os FULL of oil and we cannot find the cause. The head was slightly warped when tested by the local engineers but it would be good to find something else that caused this!

The oil cooler has been checked and is fine. The water pump is yet to be checked but will be replaced as a new one is only £25 for a genuine Audi pump.

Does anyone know anything about what is known to cause the gasket to fail on these engines?

Also what products are there on the market that will get rid of the huge amount of oil in the cooling system. I've been told that putting washing powder into the system and running it at high idle for ten minutes can be good!!!

Thanks,

Do you mean the pump was shot the engine overheated and popped the gasket. There is no oil way in a waterpump. Regards Peter

Hi,

My father has a VW Polo (2006) and a new shape Passat and is moaning that he can't listen to the cricket in either car.

I have played in the Polo with the AM button and I can't find Long Wave anywhere. IS it possible to tune into LW stations?

If so, how?

PS - He does not have the stereo manual for me to read.

Thanks Read more

A pie? at a cricket match? My dear boy have you no shame?

Pies are for eating whilst watching football.

My typical cricket lunch consists of freshly made rolls, filled with rare roast beef and smoked salmon, both purchased form a Jewish delicatessen just round the corner form Lords, ironically named Panzers. They also do an excellent spicy potato salad and some cake is always welcome.

Before lunch, the correct drink is Pimms. Champagne with lunch, beer through the afternoon session then some sandwiches and cake for tea. Instant margaritas are fun for the evening session.

As for a motoring connection, do not drive if you're watching a cricket match.

My mates 2005 Audi can receive TMS, I fail to see how anyone can't be entertained by the chat.

I took my Ford Focus into the Ford garage yesterday to have the rocker cover gasket repaired as it had a slight leak. They also topped up my engine oil and coolant.
When I checked the oil level first thing this morning (before running the engine), on level ground, it was slightly above the max notch by about 2 to 3 mm.

After I checked the oil I drove to the shops about 4 miles away and after I had been in the shops (55 minutes after switching the engine off) I rechecked the oil level on the dipstick and this time it was 3 or 4 mm below the max notch.

In the Owner's guide it says :

"For an exact reading a cold engine should be run for a short time. Switch the ignition off and wait some minutes for the engine oil to flow back into the sump."

From what I have said do you think I have too much oil in my engine ?

2 to 3 millemetres above the max mark on the dipstick will not make a blind bit of difference to the performance of your car. Stop worrying and relax.

You could always keep wiping the dip stick with a rag untill the 323.257ml of oil is removed.

The brake lights have stopped working, I've checked the bulbs and the fuses and they're ok, is there a switch somewhere I can/should investigate? And suggestions welcome. Read more

I've been offered a 2001 C5 2.2HDi at a very good price... the downside is, it has some declared faults...

The suspension apparently raises itself up for no apparent reason - can anyone shed any light on this? Googling indicates that the Hydractive system on this model automatically raises the suspension if it detects poor road surfaces (so that's ANY UK roads then...) - perhaps this feature is getting a bit over-zeaous...? alternatively it could be a problem more "physical" in nature - any Hydractive experts out there care to offer some insight?

(Apologies for the somewhat sketchy info, this is all second-hand and I haven't actually seen the car yet.)

[Other faults are the "Anti-Pollution fault" indicating the Eolys fuel additive tank is empty (I've already estimated the refill cost via this forum) and a "replace fuel filter" fault-code that needs to be reset now that the filter has been changed.]

I'm going to phone the local independent Citroen specialist on Monday morning, but would appreciate an idea of what's involved before I speak to them. All constructive comments welcome. Read more

Railroad.

Any more than £20 is not a good price for this model and this age. Your hand will be forever in your pocket with this. It's an unreliable piece of French junk and should've gone to the scrapyard years ago.

I think it is possible to make an HDMi cable so cheap and nasty that it impacts the picture, but anything from a tenner upwards should be OK. The digital signals down the HDMI cable ( which have no error correction) have fairly fast rise / fall times on the pulses, which can get distorted by very cheap cable or, more likely, crosstalk between the signals. This can cause visible picture problems, known as 'sparklies'
