I recently drove in very wet conditions and there is a lot of condensation in the plastic outer cover of one of the headlight asssemblies. The water is in the cover, rather than the individual lights, so I hope it is possible to remove the cover and dry it out.

Can anyone please help me on how to do this? Read more

The heater in my car is only blowing out hot air. Even with the control turned off and dial turned to cold.

There was an intermittent problem with the heater not working at all last year, but that seemed to be just a poor connection with the wiring.

Anyone have any ideas? Read more

start at the valve (two heater pipes at rear of engine going towards the dash, the valve is behind the plastic panel) very common but the control panel packs up also

Hi i have T reg 1999 xantia i recently removed the steering rack and separated the rack to change the gaitors ( i know long way round ) since the rack is back on and the car is running the suspension on the front was rising to the highest position and then dropping to normal right height, it kept doing this. I took it to citreon they found nothing wrong with the car the height correctors nothing, they told me the lhm fluid was dirty and there is grit in the system so i bought a lhm flush, i managed to get 4 litres of flush in the car, the suspension has stopped bouncing but i have a problem when your driving and the steering is turned to a lock the car jacks up to highest position and then drops when you straigten the steering. The rear end is perfect nothing wrong on the back, i have undone all the metal pipes while engine running and they seem to be unblocked and the flush oil is coming through ok. As you can tell i am a little lost on this by now and citreon just say its the oil that need replacing, when i separated the rack i pushed all the dirty oil back in the system but even with this flush there is no improvement. can any one help

Hi, my problem with the suspension bouncing was that my tracking was completely out.

My 6 months old Audi A3 1.6 special edition automatic has what I can only describe as a restless ride, which is very tiring.
To date the car has covered less than 2k miles because it is uncomfortable to use.
The car I test drove at a local dealer had a firm but steady ride and, I have owned 3 VW's before this so I am used to a firmer ride quality.
I did wonder if perhaps changing the tyres might make a difference? I don't know what make were on the test drive car but mine is fitted with Continental Sport Contact 2 205/55 R16 91V's.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I don't know what the Special Edition spec is - does it have sports suspension? This affects ride on the A3.

My previous A3 SE had the same wheels, but different tyres (Michelin) and it was fine. My current SE has upgraded 17 inch wheels on 50 profile tyres and this is still a good ride on the OEM Pirellis.

Check tyre pressures and check the suspension packing material has been removed from the springs! Yes it does get left in despite what the PDI says.

I suspect your idle speed control valve wants a clean out. Full details in the following thread.

Can you describe what the picture looks like on the orange flashing light?

I tried to change the clutch with the gearbox insitu, following the Haynes Manual. After removing the end cover I was unable to withdraw the drive shaft as there was no thread in the shaft to attach the slide hammer. There is no end cover bolt on the drive shaft. I have done this before on an Mk 2 I used to own.

The local Vauxhall dealer was helpful and showed me detailed diagrams, none of which matched the car.

It appears the gearbox might have to be removed in order to change this clutch. Unfortunately the Haynes Manual uses the same method of extracting the drive shaft even when separating the box from the engine.

Does anyone have any instructions for this variant of engine... Read more

While testing rear brakes for mot I had an assistant brake firmly with rear wheels in the air.
The wheels stopped but if I exerted a bit of pressure they moved?Applying the handbrake rendered the wheels solid.
I was worried about this failing mot yet it passed....what gives? Is this something to do with the brake pressure compensator ie: 70% braking force to the front and 30% to the rear(or thereabouts).
In layman terms what im asking is should the rear drums lock the wheels solid when carrying out the aforementioned test?

Went to our local Car supermarket at {location deleted, as you're making an accusation against them} on the bank holiday weekend and purcahsed a clio 172 for the missus. When we was finalising the deal i said that as the car was due a service, i wanted a full service carried out on the car as part of the deal. The salesman kept banging on that as part of there 100 point check everything was changed bar the oil and oil filter, which he said he will get them to do.

I asked him severel times what he thought was a full service, and he kept on blabbing on that it would be done.

I said that i expected the oil,air and fuel filter to be changed, as well as the plugs and oil. He said that would all be done.

Finally managd to have a look tonight. The oil filter looks new and the oil is clean. Air filter looked like it has never been changed so i am guessing that the rest of the service items have not been replaced.

Dont really have faith in them now. Has anyone had the same problem and was it resolved? Do you think i could get it serviced and get them to pay for it? Read more
