94 2.0 Mk 3 DOHC Ecotec Petrol - Clutch Change - Baldy John
I tried to change the clutch with the gearbox insitu, following the Haynes Manual. After removing the end cover I was unable to withdraw the drive shaft as there was no thread in the shaft to attach the slide hammer. There is no end cover bolt on the drive shaft. I have done this before on an Mk 2 I used to own.

The local Vauxhall dealer was helpful and showed me detailed diagrams, none of which matched the car.

It appears the gearbox might have to be removed in order to change this clutch. Unfortunately the Haynes Manual uses the same method of extracting the drive shaft even when separating the box from the engine.

Does anyone have any instructions for this variant of engine...

After about 1992/1993, Vauxhall changed the design of flywheel and clutch. The clutch can no longer be removed from beneath the bellhousing, and the expensive two piece gearbox input shaft was made solid.

Sorry, but you'll have to take the gearbox out to change the clutch on this car.

Number cruncher is right. Support engine on wing brace and remove lower sub frame and susp. then withdraw the gearbox as normal
