March 2008
Two Honda Accord 2.2 Sport GT diesel saloons.
In one corner - 2007, 5000 miles, CD, ABS, climate control, 17" alloys - £19,995
In the other - 2007 reg., 6,500 miles, sat nav + hands-free telephone kit, 18" alloys, CD, ABS, climate control - £17,499
The only difference otherwise? The cheaper car is pearlescent white while the other is silver. Does this justify the £2,500 difference? Read more
Hi I started my car fine this morning put it in the drive then when aout about 3 hrs later and turned the key and it wouldn't turn over, The dashboard lights didn't even dim. so left it for two hrs then tried again Nothing.
I have just got a bump start and drove 400 yards and back stop it and now it starts fine.
Im Confused anyone have and idea what it could be. Read more
Right on the change between two different engine types there; but, if it's a manual, then that could be an ignition switch fault, a failing starter [probably worn brushes] or a wiring/connector fault.
The next step is testing for a feed to the starter solenoid on the black/red cable when it won't crank.
Just wondering if anyone can help.
I have finally changed my stepper motor (bosch monopoint) as well as the carb as it was all connected and easier to do. The car now starts fine.
How do I check if the car is running rich as such or do the electrical cables sort all of that out?, and can I automatically adjust the idle??
Thanks,
Richard. Read more

The fuelling is controlled by the ECU using exhaust-gas oxygen monitoring. Provided that your replacement throttle body [it's not a carb] was EXACTLY the same part number as the old one, it should all work. If not; you'll have created a horrible mis-match.
There is no manual adjustment of the idle needed - the ECU programming constantly controls that too.
Irritatingly, Haynes do not do a workshop manual for the S60. Any recommendations for an alternative? Electronic or paper - I don't mind.

"all 2WD petrol"
Except bi-fuel versions, for the handful of folks that might happen to have one.
Why Haynes didn't do a combined S80/V70/S60 manual in the first place (the differences between them are trivial, beyond the cosmetic), I really don't know.
This is realy begining to bug me.
fuse F9 keeps blowing, not when i use something ,but when the car is parked up,not every time,it will be fine for weeks then have a hissy fit and go through one evry time i park,I've disconnected windows, power points and rear level switch and makes no differance, has anyone got access to a wiring diagram.
at first i thought it was tied in with putting a wieght in the back, but that makes no change, are there any boxes that dont like moisture, could it be spiked on start,i've tried the reset electrics routine but again no change. Read more

Hi All
On my way home on nights today i noticed what looked like a puff of steam from the front of my bonnet, i stopped and had a look and its was not water from the radiator but it looks like a bit of oil around the seal of the top rocker box and around the spark plugs,
does this indicate the head gasket has gone ? can i still drive it without ruining the engine ? and any ideas on the price to fix from a local garage not a dealer.
Thanks

DP does mean nip otherwise you do what my garage did (had they never serviced a Ford OHV before?) and turn the cover inside out.
Hi, does anyone know the name of the grey paint on the lower half of the doors on the Rover 216 range 89-96?

Thank you for all of your replies.
The code was REA.
I ended up going to Halfords and using Tempest Grey, which was a pretty good match. I'm not sure if it was the right one or not though.
I did get some info from a company:
'The colour is called Japan black matt.
Hi Trevor The code REA is a dual code which breaks down to UME which is carribean blue andpmq which is the Japan. It might be called black but is grey. There is blackviolet and white in the formulation so it will be a grey. '
I didn't fancy taking a chance on a grey that was called 'Japan matt black'!
Be interesting to know if it was the right info though.
Hello,
I have a Xsara Picasso 1.6HDi 110, 57 reg.
I took it for the 12000 miles service yesterday. I mentioned to the garage there was a wobble when braking from high speed. They changed the brake pads AND disks. Is this normal? What could cause pads and disks to fail so quickly? (I am normally quite light in my use of brakes)...
Regards

One of the discs will have warped you cannot just change one and it is always best practice to fit new pads when you change the discs.
Just had a call from the Renault dealer - Renault UK have agreed to a 100% goodwill contribution to the window regulator that failed on the Scenic around Christmas (3 months out of manufacturers warranty). The dealer wants the car in 2 weeks to fit it.
I have to say that Renault customer services have been brilliant. One guy assigned to the case from the beginning, always rang when agreed, and the outcome was exactly as I wanted. Didn't have to argue for it at all. It's taken a few months, but we got there.
Of course, you could argue that it shouldn't have failed in the first place, but the other side of the coin is that they weren't obliged to do anything at all. Covering the full cost is more than I expected.

Also a problem on the Meganes, not surprisingly, according to a work colleague who had to replace 2 sets. 'French' and 'electrics/onics' seem to be a contradiction in terms. FiL had to replace 2 dashboards on his Laguna and the third one is now misbehaving.
Hi
I'm looking to buy a car from a main dealer. The salesman has offered to pass on the finance commision £1500. He says after I have made one payment I can phone up for a settlement fee and cancel the finance deal allowing me to take out a cheaper personal loan. The £1500 would be knocked of the price of the car.
Is this legal?
Will I be getting myself into a sticky mess or is it a good way to save cash on the deal?
Thanls for any advice Read more
I was certainly offered a deal like the OP's when looking at a Toyota Yaris
a year or so ago.
When i worked for toyota they frequently had similar offers on a number cars in the range where if you took toyota's finance you got usually between £500 and £1000 deposit contribution. If you were to pay the finance off pretty much straight away you were quids in.
Get the white. You may have the last laugh - white is making a comeback, along with solid red on exec cars.
