I can see from the extremely long thread on VED increases that quite a few of us have strong views about the retrospective nature of the changes. In case you don't know, there is an e-petition running which objects to these changes. It can be found at the web address below.

I know it won't do any good, but it still made me feel a bit better having signed up to it! Read more
The inconsistency with which punishments are applied defies belief. Do 35 in a 30 4 times in 3 years and you are quite likely to be disqualified for 6 months. Do up to three times the speed limit 65 times whilst giving a V-sign, repent and keep your licence!

Would a ban be available to the judge in sentencing in that case?
Yes: PCC(S)A 2000 s. 146.
Hi,
I am currently looking for 3 x small 5 door Diesels in Band B with Air Con to replace our work Fiesta's.
Everywhere is quoting 8-12 weeks, which is after our Fiestas are due Major services and MOT's.
Anyone have any ideas who has UK stock in the North east? Any clues?
We have considered Fiestas, Fusions and Corsas. We do 25-35k a year and need something reliable and chep to maintain.
regards
Barry

Managed to get 3 X 5 Door TDCI Fiesta Zetec Blue at second time of trying for £9500 each
I thought things would have improved if I left it for a while. Still no cars if I wanted 3 exactly the same unless I could wait for 12-14 weeks. Even started looking at smaller Petrol engines but this crashed due to lack of air con
Dont believe its the best deal in the world, but even this was very hard work to achieve
Hi All
I really hope you can help me with a problem with my 2003 C3 1400 HDI Diesel any suggestion would be gratefully appreciated:
Symptoms:
When driving often in motorways driving conditions there is a lack of power the speed will than drop down to 45/50 MPH with no response to the throttle, occasionally the engine warning light also comes on but this does not seem to have a direct connection to the problem. After a few minutes of this lack of power / throttle response the engine usually cuts back in and behaves normally for a few miles before the problem repeats itself

Duncs
The best way to proceed on this is to get the fault codes read. That will give some clue as to why the light is coming on.
In late March I hope to take delivery of a new E90. The obvious checks I will make - that an engine has been installed, that there's a wheel at each corner, that it doesn't show obvious signs of having been shunted by a JCB.
But what are the less well known checks I should make to ensure it's been built and PDId properly? Read more
>If your new car is a Peugeot check all the bulbs work.. or even exist.
It's an E90. I think all bulbs except for the fog lamps are optional extras. ;-)
Kevin...
When going over any kind of broken up surface eg potholes, choppy tarmac at speeds between about 30 and 55 there is a loud and "hollow" sounding clunk from the rear suspension (which is of the twist beam type en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twist-beam_rear_suspension ). From the drivers seat it seems to be coming from in the boot...somewhere, but it's very tricky to hear accurately behind you! It sounds like someone slapping a large empty cardboard box (the kind a TV might be delivered in) hard with an open hand.
The car has had replacement rear roadsprings (about two years ago, originals had cracked due to build up of salt-soaked mud in rear wheel arches - replacements not OEM - but done by respected local independent) and new rear shocks (Monroe SA-R3888s - done by ATS, possibly a bad idea). Looking underneath the vehicle the rubber bushings where the rear suspension joins on underneath looks to be original - do these wear out at all? Sitting on the boot floor with tailgate open and bouncing up and down reveals no untoward noises (even with 25 stone of me and a mate)
Any thoughts? It doesn't seem to be a serious functional problem but it's not pleasant for rear passengers (or front passengers, come to that) but I wonder if it's indicative of something I ought to get looked at?
Oh, and the car has done 116,000 miles or so.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply DL. Hmm. So for a competent garage, not necessarily a huge job? If it was (say) a couple of hours labour plus the price of the bushings I'd be quite tempted to get that sorted out. Guess I need to get some quotes...thanks!
my heaters are rubbish, if i turn them off for a while then turn them on they will b hot for a few seconds and go cold, i tried bleeding the system and nothing,
water is going through the radiator orite and doesnt overheat, but another problem tha i find strange is that my temp gaugh always on about 70 degrees C and a maximum of 80 when i high rev or stationary.

My 1996 N Reg 306 D Turbo runs at 80 deg on the gauge, even after a genuine thermostat was fitted when I did the head gasket.
I'd echo that the TD models seem to run a lower thermostat rating - 82 seems about right. I should have looked on the waxstat part to see if there was a rating on it.

Easy that one take it along to your local garage they will be happy to fix it for you.
I was sitting in a queue slowly shuffling off the A40 onto the Paddington slip.
There was a a traffic car two ahead of me and then I heard a loud voice on a Tannoy.
As the road widened to three lanes the blues and twos came on and the lads pulled up behind a newish MB with a sheepish looking business bod looking a bit shocked.
I can only assume it was a "On the phone sir? Emergency call sir?".
Although it was obviously a very very low risk activity using the phone He deserved all he got for being a wally and not using his mirror.
Also later, I was slowly pulling out of a parking spot in a small no through road when I was almost hit by a 911 diving off of the main road. He then proceeded to reverse at me ( as he was intent on doing a rapid three point turn ) and then he was off.
No wave from him because he was on his hand held phone the whole time.

It isn't a question of something in your hand or something else going on that
may distract you. It's a question of being trained to be utterly clear about priorities.
What this means is that if necessary you ignore what your passenger or telephonic botherer
Absolutely. At critical moments you have to snap at your passengers to shut up. If I'm trying to find my way in unfamiliar roads or spot a shop or turning I turn the radio etc off too.
Think of it as like chattering to the pilot just as he's coming in to land.
If a car is modified, and this alters the CO2 output I presume that DVLA would need to be informed. How does one go about measuring the new CO2 output, and getting the registation documents updated? Read more
In an enlightened "green" society, your car would be tested for CO2 output at the MOT test and then you pay your car tax based on that. So that those who never service the car would pay possibly more and those who modify cars to reduce CO2 would get a saving.
But the issue would be that a test where your car is tested for CO2 under load (idle CO2 levels and revving under no load would not give realistic values) would need to be developed and placed in every MOT test station. It would be nice to think that the money would come from the increased "green" based annual car tax - but I suspect the reality is that the garage owner would have to pay for this then get the money back via a higher MOT test charge.

Fair point.
I guess they won't make that illegal as well.
Actually you lose more like £25, because that's what a month will cost you in future.
