Fiesta Endura 1.3 1997 stalls on slowing down approaching junction etc, engine cuts out. It's been doing this for about 3 years so I clean the idle control valve and problem resolved for about 5000 miles then returns, clean valve and problem goes away HOWEVER cleaning failed to fix so I replaced Idle control valve and problem seemed resolved however 1 week later problem returned, engine running slighty eratic at low revs but not always also stalling problem not always. I am now suspecting Throttle Position Sensor but cannot find it can anyone give me a detalied description of where it is situated or even better send me a pic. Also if anyone has any other ideas what the stalling problem could be please help.

Hi,
I purchased a Ford Focus on the 16th Jan 2008 from a rather large Scottish Motor Dealer. It is a 2006 model, 1.8 TDCI Zetec.
The car started producing excess road noise in the rear right hand side.
I had a local garage check it out and it turns out it has been repaired quite substantially in that area. He did a bit of strip in the inside of the boot and wheel arch. The rear quarter has been replaced and not particularly well by the looks of things.
I am feeling a little foolish now for not noticing some tell tale signs.
My question is what consumer rights do I have here. I have read some of the Scottish Law in relation to purchasing second hand cars but nothing is that specific.
After giving £9k I am annoyed I am the proud owner of a crashed car.
I had fours weeks unlimited warranty on the car (now expired) and am now on the manufactures warranty.
Any advice would be appreciated?

When did paddywacx last post on the forum and do you think he is going
to read your question?
Us gastropods are renowned for being a bit slow.
:-D
They seem to have some cracking deals on a variety of cars. Appeals that you can see numerous options at one time, and test drive if you like. At the mo I'm heading towards an estate (prob Accord around 04 reg), but the wife may want something smaller. So we haven't really even decided on a size, let alone model (although we want to go Japanese). Budget will be between £5k & £6k.
Is there any reason why me and Mrs APM shouldn't head up there one day with platinum card in hand, and come home with a new motor?
I've had a look in the archive and found a smattering of positive mentions, but felt a direct question wouldn't hurt.
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Generally tidier examples than most of Car Giant stock. Eye wateringly high prices in my experience when I went there with my son looking at Zafiras.

Hi,
My engine had seized up so I bought another one (exactly the same even down to the year of manufacture) and fitted it.
Upon attempting to start the car it is cranking but not firing.
This cant be an ECU problem because the engine is exactly the same as the old one even down to the year.
We have identified the most probable cause being no fuel getting to the engine, the reason being that upon disconnecting the injector pipes only minimal fuel drips out where it should be considerably greater, somewhat squirting out.
I have checked for a spark and there is one, the spark plugs aren't even getting wet when the fuel pump activates. It appears that there is minimal fuel pressure building up but the fuel pump is operational!
Can anyone help me out please?
Cheers

Yea theres plenty of fuel in the tank.
3 quarters full it is.
This was the email from my aunt this morning:
I also want to change my car. I think I?m going to try and sell it on ebay cos I know someone else who got a lot more for her sports car on it than she was offered privately. I?d like to stay sporty but need 4 seats and am looking for something a bit more eco friendly (and cheaper to tax). Remember I don?t mean fast when I say sporty ? I mean posey.
Her current car is a Merc CLK convertible - I think that´s the 4 seater one, not the 2 seater hardtop jobby - I think it´s the 230 Kompressor.
Any ideas? I was thinking Panda Sporting.

Not buying a car on finance is usually a good move, but are there funds to have both cars for an overlapping period, or at least could that be financed?
If what I read is right, the cabrio market is starting to pick up for spring so the best price for an open top replacement could be had by buying sooner rather than later, while a better resale price for the Merc could possibly be obtained on return from holiday.
I am welcome to be proved wrong here and it's possible she has already missed the boat as far as low winter cabrio prices go. Plus, wasteful as it is to be paying to run two cars when only one is wanted, it is worse that the aunt is on holiday for the overlap period and not able to drive either.
Hiya, I was going to put a knn air filter on put its not like other engines this 1.9 diesel turbo im not quite sure which is the airfilter.

Save the money (and the dumpvalve idea) and take the car to somewhere like Dervdoctor for a tuneup. Should release a genuine 10-20 bhp extra and make the car faster all through the rev range.
Or sell it and buy a car that was meant to be fast in the first place...
cheers

Ok. I know some people have commented on "snake oil" solutions and I think this product has been mentioned before, but I have decided to go ahead and try the "Thermagasket" product from the US - RX Auto.
There are many reviews online that give it rave write-ups and with a repair bill of upwards of £1,000 on a car that's worth around £600, I've decided its a gamble worth taking!
Does anyone have any experience of this product? Any guidance or advice (apart from "don't do it"!).
If anyone is interested, I'll post a "blog" on here of what the process is and how it goes?
To start the record, the symptoms are signs of steam coming from the tail pipe(s). Using a small amount of coolant, with some evidence of gases in the reservoir. It looks like it is early signs of HG failure and that is why I am hoping this product can do a realtively good fix, for a fraction of the price of a new HG!

i bet as soon as u put the thermostat in it will go back to steaming from the exhaust and using a lot of water again..with no thermostat in the engine will run cooler and less coolant pressure the engine will run richer as well...
As you may know I am a big fan of the current Accord but I have just read a report that quotes Honda as pushing the new 2008 Accord (and dealerships) further upmarket to compete with the 3 series and C class which basically means alot of existing private buyers will be priced out of the new car Accord market - as some have been for the current model.
To me this is just trying to pander to the motoring snobs (usually company car drivers - if I may be so bold) that would never have an Accord over a 3 series anyway because they do not understand anything about cars except the badge.
The Accord is already a premium product in terms of it's engineering integrity and a far better car than any of the German brands it is trying to aspire to. (As borne out by customer and reliability surveys)
I have read and agree with statements that suggest it is the thinking man's car as the more knowledgable among us appreciate the level of design and engineering excellence Honda put into their products.
Personally I think this is financial suicide for the company and excellent news for Toyota and it's Avensis sales.
That's what I will be having next anyway if the Accord is the same price as a 3 series/c class.
Please discuss - as my exam papers used to say. Read more
I'm wondering if Honda will also try to push the new Jazz upmarket (or at least up in price)? It's already expensive (very expensive compared to some rivals) but it's generally bought by people who aren't that price sensitive. The current Jazz was pretty well equipped compared to rivals when it was introduced, but others have caught up now.
I also think the fact that it's made in China will put off many in its target market (if they realise).
I (and a colleague) have seen cars hanging upside down from the top deck of a transporter.
What's the point of this and how do they get them on?

Can someone simply answer the question.
It had already been answered - with proving links - at least 2 times when you posted this. You can't expect to find the answer if you don't actually read the responses.
Some new car models have the wipers positioned north to south in the parked position. This is better than the horizontal position. Dirt accumulates on the blades thus creating scratches on the windscreen. No matter how clean you keep the blades, the dirty rain water traps along the blades, dries and scuffs across the windscreen when in use. During rain I park the wipers vertically to minimise the damage this causes. But I wish the manufacturers would align the wiper arms along the A posts to illiminate this annoyance. Read more
The rear wiper blade on my Honda doesn't come off at all - you have to replace the rubber.
