Hiya i got a p reg 306, and i was doin about 80mph and that red light came on that hawesy1982 was on about in the following thread:-

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=17099

but i would describe it as a pan lid lieing on a wavey line wiv two seperate wavey lines underneath it.

But at the same time my stop light came on but lit up dim(not like normal illumination) and my speedo and temp gauge stoped working.

Now my stop light (dim) and the panlid wavey line light are both constantly on all the time.

And when i rag it and go fast it cuts out and have to start my engine again.

I checked my fuse and fuse number 12 which is a 10amp is blone and i tried butting a new fuse in and it kept blowing and i tried a 15amp aswel and that blew.

Can anyone know what is going on and help me fix and sort this problem out please.

Thank-you

My 405's advisory on last year's MoT says that both front discs were slightly worn. It's covered just over 3,000 miles since then, as the person I bought it from used it very little. How can I tell if the discs will pass muster this time around? Read more

They don't actually measure them, so the test is somewhat subjective. However, if they are deeply scored; rough and rusty; have a very big lip on the edge; cracked or otherwise damaged; then you will pick up a fail. Most often they will be well below the makers min thickness before they fail the MOT. Taking it to Kiwk Fit will get you a free brake condition report.

The Transit Van I have at work has the above standard Ford Radio in it. Looking to fit a Parrot Handsfree to it, probably the CK3000.

Has anyone fitted one before and is it plug and go or does it need adaptors?

I know Halfords supply and fit For £99 but these are available on ebay for about £60 and I would fit myself if not a lot of hassle?

Any advice either on the fitting to this radio or fitting in general in a Transit?

Many thanks,

I personally do not know the answer, but if you ask on the Transit Forum at:

I am sure that someone there will be able to help you.

tip tip

I have engine management light on took it to 1 garage and they detected 4th cylinder missfire. so changed coil pack, leads and plugs. still no joy missfire still there so taken it to another garage and they've detected 1st and 4 th missfire. they have done compression test passed and all plugs are sparking. i have no idea of the codes detected at the minute but second garage are thinking it could be the ecu. any ideas would be greatly appreciated many thanks Read more

When you said it was the ECU in your previous post; was that because of an ignition fault - or was there an injector issue? Your garage sound a little too quick to jump to conclusions - they say everything is perfect, when it clearly isn't.

Is it still only running on 2 + 3? Did swapping the coils side-to-side move the miss?

Where did you get the ECU tested and did you check that is the correct calcium battery - sounds impossible, but it does matter.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone had any dealings with these guys. They sound great on the phone and can get an 11% discount, however you have to pay them upfront (18% of your discount). Not sure if there any benefits compared with going through a broker, the overall savings look pretty similar.

Thanks

Just found a link to a wooden super car!

If this is the shape of environmentally friendly transport of the future, then count me in!

I presume this car is why there is third party, FIRE, and theft insurance!

We got an M reg 316i compact Auto with a cracked head/overheating etc which the previous owner took a best guess at & replaced the head gasket but without success.

I invested in a nice bit of kit to pressure test the water system, which showed it was knackered + a chemical device to show combustion elements in the water.

We managed to get a good engine off a manual 316i for silly money & all we had to do was remove the bearing from the crank & swop starter ring so that the auto box would engage.

When fitted, it refused to turnover so I buzzed the wiring out & found ?zero volts? at the starter terminal on the starter motor.

note: My colleague believes he may have earthed the wire by accident whilst trying to start the engine.

The Haynes manual was adamant that there was a starter relay in series with an inhibitor switch (on Auto?s) but we could not locate either, looked in the relay fuse box & behind the panels above driver & passenger foot wells, where all we found was junction boxes with the side rails for relays but no relays fitted.

We took a wire from the ignition switch direct to the starter motor solenoid & it started immediately.

Does anybody know where the starter relay & auto box start inhibitor switch is?

65000 miles
before going on holiday to ireland got car serviced at local audi dealer.
Under warranty they changed waterpump and I agreed to timing /cam belt change.
Car began cutting out at low revs on the way to holyhead ferry.
I called the dealer who thought it might be fuel contamination. They offered a hire car to continue our journey. However we would have missed the ferry.
We got the car to ireland and took it to an audi dealer nearby.
On the way there ,about 2 miles, the engine began sounding very rough.
When the dealer's technician examined the car he found the timing belt was loose as was the tensioner.
They fitted a new belt, started the engine but it was obivious damage was done.
My local dealer has recovered the car back to uk and is about to examine it.
The car is under warranty until April 2009.
My question is what is the likely damage to engine. I no longer trust dealership and want to guard against them doing only the bare minimum.
The car was purchased in march last year from the dealer.
thanks

As from 31 March, you will be able to get a parking ticket from a CCTV camera - Telegraph article today.

No more being one minute late back to your parking meter.

I am struggling to decide whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Can anybody offer some advice please.
I need to change the water pump on a 1990 5.3 XJS auto. {added to subject header as per the 3 separate requests!}
Are there any nasties to watch out for, and is it really necessary to remove the damper and crankshaft pulley?
If it is, has anyone got advice on how to undo the retaining bolt. Jamming the flywheel ring gear looks pretty much impossible without taking half the car to bits!
Thanks in advance
