Hi, I've just registered and I'm hoping for some advice from those more knowledgeable than me.
My 2001 S60 has begun to make an unusual noise from what I think is the power steering. The noise is most noticable when starting from cold, but when turning the steering wheel at low / parking speeds there is a groaning sound. The power steering fluid is OK so I am assuming that the pump is on its way out. Any advice or guidance on what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2001 old shape Primera which I had a major service on in Oct (coolant, brake fluid etc) at 67000m. Since then progressivley (it was a couple of weeks before I really noticed) I have had the ABS physically coming on all of the time when I have to brake, and, I can hear the pump working whilst I am driving and not braking - my rear pads are low but not at the metal / metal stage.
Are the service and the malfunction of the ABS connected? I'm taking it in for a mechanic to check in the next day or two.
thanks

Have a look at the end of each drive shaft, you will find a toothed ring.
Thats the reluctor ring, The ABS sensor basically reads that as the driveshaft goes round.
Have a very hot (cabin) ford fiesta. The hot and cold switch now only works on hot all the time. When I took the switch apart to see the problem I was presented with a circuit board (the car is 02 with air con). If I remove the circuit board from the car it runs cold in the cabin. Having replaced it back in the car it is now running cold all the time ? I have not replaced the fuse at this point. Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks, I have a circuit board only coming from e-bay. Will this be ok without the actual switches?

hi does anyone know of any known oil leaks with the passat i have the 1.8t sport on a 51 reg and ive noticed a oil leak down near the turbo unit but have to wait till after christmas for it to go in to have the engine cleaned so we can see where abouts it is leaking from as the heat shield is in the way you cannot see, any help would be great losing a bit of power on top end but not on start off so could it be from the turbo oil feed or the head gasket leak is on the left hand near to the front of the engine no oil anywhere else and its not coming the rocker cover as its not that high up.? Is the 1.6 any good? Are they as reliable as they sound on paper?
My sister fancies one to replace her MGF having done the homework, but are they fairly trouble-free?
She would have liked a 1.7 but I have read in several places that the 1.7 has a particular issue with short journeys which she does quite often although she does a long drive every weekend.
I havent found any info specific to the 1.6 hence the question!
What sort of servicing costs are you looking at with one?
Thanks in advance! Read more
Read Pugugly {P} 's post again...:-)
Key point about the larger engine is to use the correct
oil at all times.

Just sounds like the kind of thing my sister would get wrong and her request was something that doesnt need any special attention like her MGF does - she wants to to have a car that has no special needs whatsoever other than the usual checks which she brings it over to me for.
I know it sounds pedantic, but I cant trust her to make sure the right oil is used and I want her car to last, so must make sure she gets a car that has turn-key owner responsibility!
Would it help if she gets it serviced more often with the short journeys?
i just wondered if its possible to get my injectors on a 306 hdi to get tested or serviced? Its comming up to 180,000 and its starting to tick upto about 3200 rpm. this dissapears for a while but comes back after about a week. Basically i was wondering what sort of things can be done and what sort of cost am i looking at?

The driver's side door of my '94 Punto has started to cause problems. About 3 months ago, the piece of metal covering the lock and that gets pushed to one side when the key is put in, vanished (broken?).
Over the last few weeks it has become increasingly difficult to put the key into the lock and even harder to actually turn it and withdraw it. Now I notice that the passenger's side lock has suffered the same fate with the piece of metal covering the lock (but no such problems, yet!)
So, any good solutions? Do you think the cold weather is making it harder to turn the key? Has the piece of metal got wedged in (although I can't see it, even with a powerful torch)? Has someone had a go at knicking the car, hence the damage? Would a good blast of WD-40 do the trick or do more harm than good (central locking system)?
Thank you.

Try a bit of clean engine oil on the key before you insert it. My wife's Punto had the same problem albeit the bit off metal didn't vanish like yours!
Can anyone identify the car? The sign in the wall is in Cyrillic lettering, so it's probably East European.

Makes you wonder why we tax petrol to pay for farming subsidies. I thought they were unsure about whether water vapour increases or decreases global temperatures?
Anyway the main problem with electric cars is their limited range. Imagine if you took your horse powered car for a long drive. The engine would not breakdown but overheating and trouble starting would become common problems.

I have a 53 zetec s 130tdci mondeo and the heater seems to be playing up. In "normal mode the heat used to come out at the feet, face and screen . It now only comes out at the screen. If you select an option on the heater control eg feet then it will blow all the heat at the feet, the same for face and screen. Very occassionally if you hav been blowing heat at on area and then go back to normal it blows from all 3 vents. Any ideas as to what is causing this please. Thanks Read more
Doh you mention TDCi at the top of the post. Assumed in quesiton 'cos nobody answered.
Is your problem down to the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. It takes a lot longer to get warm let alone hot air on a diesel. If only short journey's could explain your original question?
Rear 21w fog light, function only available when headlights on, fair enough. Dip beam, fog light on, switch to main beam, fog light goes out, back to dip, light comes back on. What is the reason for this?
Does my switching to main beam magically clear any fog behind my vehicle or am I missing something here?
Input appreciated. Thanks. Read more
The Focus II has the same set up as the Mondeo. The logic being along the lines of if fog visibility is poor then having both front and rear fogs lights on is justifiable on the grounds of safety and being seen by others. They are is vital in poor conditions, even an additional 1 second warning of an approaching vehicle can mean the difference between life and death for someone crossing a road in heavy fog or a vehicle that is about to pull out of a road or onto a roundabout, or in extreme heavy fog conditions vehicles have been know to mount pavements whilst in search of the road.
Hi. I would recommend checking out the Volvo Owner's Club forum (www.volvoclub.org.uk/forum/index.php ). They are very knowledgeable and should be able to help you
