My car has various scratches and scuffs that I'd like to sort out. Can anyone suggest a decent bodyshop/Chips etc franchise in or near Sheffield?

Thanks

Thanks! As you say, there are mixed reports about Chips Away. Hopefully someone will know whether the Sheffield franchise is any good.

Hi people,

My partner and I have a Ford Fiesta Mk3 Ghia (L reg) which seems to have delevoped a fault but I can't figure out what it is. The problem is that the car will just die for no reason, the engine stops but all the igintion lights stay on. It will re-start straight away and be fine. The problem seems to go away once the car has been driven for abit. It also seems to stutter just before this happens, there is aways fuel in the car (Always above quarter of a tank) and has had a new exhaust fitted resently. I've tried redex to see if that helps but it didn't.

It does have a foxguard immobiliser but was running fine for ages, the fault only started a couple of weeks ago so I have no idea whats causing it.

Any idea's, suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance Read more

Hi just found this site and seems like a great place to post my question. Great if anybody can help thanks..
My problems is with the heating/climate control. on pushing the control buttons to turn on the heater either manual or the auto button the aircon clutch kicks in and a few seconds later the cars main cooling fan starts up ( i been informed this is ment to happen if the aircon button is pressed) and cooles the car before it ever has a chance to warm up so drive around for miles with little or no real heat. Im also now thinking that my thermostat is on the blink as well just to make matters worse. Could be an expensive new year. Car has done 107000 miles with little gone wrong up to this point. Thanks 21mdc. Read more

Thanks Kith. had a go at your sugestion and life is much better now. Instructions worked as described apart from the fact that if the "OFF "button is pressed i have to go through the A/C off procedue again (is this standard ? ) not that that takes long now have tried it out a few times. Thanks again Matt..

Hi,

New to the forum, although been looking at the site for quite a while, so hope this is the right place to ask this question.

My girlfriend has a 94 Renault Clio which the full beams have packed up on. When the lights are off the flashers still work. I have checked the fuses and they are fine. Where should I be looking? The staulk does not seem to click on, could it be the switch or is just the bulbs? Would appreciate any advice you guys have.

Thanks. Steve. Read more

Cheers Mookfish, that sounds like great advice. Will check bulbs and then if they are ok will do the switch as you described. Let you know how I go.

I seem to have the opposite problem to most people with Ford heated screens - mine works when I don't want it to!

On engine starting, the indicator light for the front screen lights up for about 5 minutes - as if I have pressed it. It hasn't been cold enough for me to tell whether the screen is actually on, or if the problem is just with the switch indicator.

Anyway, I'd rather not put up with the excessive electrical load when I don't need it. Any ideas how to resolve this please?

Merry xmas one and all,

its that Golf Mk 2 diesel again.

There is a rubberpipe/hose that runs from a nipple under the carb ( do Diesels have a carb ?) to a nipple on the non injector side of the cylinder, its leaking fuel and corroded. does any one know the correct name for this bit, and more importantly where I can buy piece of it about half a metere long, its not reinforced by the way, and its just a push fit, its quite a small bore. Help please. Thanks Read more

yorkiebar

Agree it sounds like a return pipe. Any motor factor should be able to help you.

But do make sure it is not pressured before you tackle it. High pressure diesel is dangerous ! To YOU !!

OK, done it. After my very real mid-life crisis in November, and after much researching and costing etc, I got me an October 05 Saab Vector 1.8t convertible auto with heated seats, metalic Parchment Silver bodywork with slate grey leather, 14k on the clock. Whoop-de-doo, pick it up day after new year! Read more

It's a lovely combination that parchment with the grey leather. A friend has exactly the same model as yours and is likewise very pleased.

Hi folks,

Have got to replace the centre section of my 1999 Citiroen Saxo 1.1's exhaust after the pipe rotted through.

Been looking online and there seems to be two options, ceramic @ £30 + VAT or Steel @ £75 + VAT.

Can anyone advise what the best option would be? For less than half the price, the ceramic one looks good, but there must be a reason its so cheap.

Also, when I ring my local motor factors they ask if my cat has On Board Diagnostics. According to www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk and other sites, they never had OBD on the 1.1 engine, only the 1.4 but the motor factor bloke said it was the 1.1 too. How do I know who's right?!?!

All advice appreciated!!!

Cheers for the last two replies!

Have gone for the ceramic one in the end, as suggested!!

It comes with a 2 year warranty and thats about my timeframe for getting my arse in gear and saving for a (nearly) new car anyway so should do the job!!!

Cheers again!

There is an obvious erxample - any VW camper.
My T25 sold after 20 years at 17% of its new price- and I prretty well gave it away!
I could have got 25%, with some effort.
Most are appreciating now. Look aty the Bay Windows ones.
So get the modern equivalent and wave bye bye to silly depreciation- they keep their value very well, and don't rust either.
The engine was crap but new ones are fine
