Guys I received a penalty ticket on last Saturday after my pay and display run out on my car. My pay & display ticket expired at 11:47am while I was back to move my car at 11:55am but the traffic warden was putting a ticket on which she issued at 11:54am. I said to her its really harsh and she should had waited for at least 10 minutes but I see no point of arguing with them because they never listen. I would like to challenge this ticket and you guys reckon I've any chance of getting it cancelled?
The ticket code is 05 which means "our vehicle has overstayed the time paid for as indicated on the Pay and Display ticket or voucher displayed in the vehicle." Many Thanks everyone, happy new year! Read more

As galling as it is to receive a ticket, just cough the money up, move on and live the rest of your life in health and happiness.

Having used confused.com and moneysupermarket.com, I've realised the latter is far better in respect of car insurance, however it's thrown this up by using some companies I've never heard of before, and I wondered if anyone else had ever used them?

Swift Cover.com

Simple Cover from Norwich Union.

I was wondering whether these companies are indeed wise options, or actually rip-off merchants? They are both around £650, instead of the £900 given by confused.com with Admiral...which is a sizeable saving... Read more

vk2+4,

Steer totally clear of the first one you mention. You never find out about a insurance co until you claim and in my case they would not honour a clause in their policy to fix the car thought the supplying dealer. They have now changed their wording proving they had got it wrong. No customer service skills, could not give a **** about an individual customer. Not the cheapet by far either - try confused.com.

If you want a company testimonial, go to the garage you may want to fix your car and see who they recommend.

Do be careful....the price may not be the cost in the end!

I have a 02 reg 16 valve 1.6 renault megane fidji.
driving home tonight i heard a kinda pop noise and lost all power to the engine, brake failure etc. managed to pull over pretty quickly ( i was on the M25 crossing qe2 bridge at the time doing around 50 i guess.
anyway RAC came out and to cut a long story short was told timing belt has gone.
so the questions are as follows
is the engine interference or non interference as i gather this could make a difference to repair costs.
im a total car noob and no nothing about engines etc.
what would be the best and worst case scenario on cost of repairs to this.
Its been one nightmare afater another , the car was brought from a dealers only in may 06 and had nothing but problems ( air con, constant wiper failure etc) but the car only came with 3 months warranty so im out of luck in that department. Th cars on HP so not even a quarter paid for, moneys tight especially just after xmas so this is the last thing i need.
so any help as to what this is gonna cost me so i dont get ripped off would be greatly appreciated Read more

Mileage out of interest?

Hi,
New to this so please bear with me. Driving up the M1 in the above car the instruments / cd player started to act up in a rather random way:
Speedo dipped then worked ok
Rev counter dipped then worked ok
CD stopped then started where it left off / at the beginning of the CD or swapped to radio or maybe showed the volume control.
Odd warning lights flicked on then off (low fuel/airbag/abs).
The odometer 'moved on' several miles and sometimes this whole readout looked as if I had just switched the ignition on - ie ran thru miles to service & oil level before coming up with the odometer and mileometer readings.
but ........ the main mileometer always reads ok & the engine / gearbox never seemed to give any trouble.
The symptoms could all appear at the same time, or a few of them or just one of them.
I gather this car has multiplex wiring & the associated electronic boxes.
Has anyone had this? or can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
Nico.

Today I visited the local Shell garage to use the car wash (no petrol bought). So I park the car at the side of the forecourt and queue (for ages, due to a problematic chip 'n' pin reader and even more problematic customer) to get my ticket. Lucky the car wash was empty, I thought, as otherwise a quick wash would have taken ages...

So, I go out to the car, ticket in hand, and drive around to the car wash, only to find someone (turned out to be a female but that's probably irrelevant) had parked her car at the start of the car wash while she went and queued for her ticket. By the time she had completed queuing and used the car wash (full cycle, including spin) it must have taken me ten minutes extra...

I got over it quickly enough but what a thoughtless thing to do... or was it?? Read more

Learn to chill out and queue.

Reminds me of a story some years ago when someone went into the garage early one morning to buy a token for a car wash machine. An impatient driver pulled up at the car wash machine and then went and bought a token. Unfortunately overnight some scroates had tied nuts in the brushes of the car wash and did a lot of damage to the car's bodywork. So the patient driver had the last laugh.

Hi, anyone know approx how often the cambelt should be changed on this car? thanks in advance Read more

LeePower

I think ( of top of my head ) officially its every 80K miles or 5 years ( which ever comes first ) on this TU5 lump.

Wouldn't leave one more then 50K miles though before a change, budget on a water pump too, they normal have a little leak after being disturbed.

Cambelt kit ( with tensioners etc ) is cheap from French parts specialists too
