Guys I received a penalty ticket on last Saturday after my pay and display run out on my car. My pay & display ticket expired at 11:47am while I was back to move my car at 11:55am but the traffic warden was putting a ticket on which she issued at 11:54am. I said to her its really harsh and she should had waited for at least 10 minutes but I see no point of arguing with them because they never listen. I would like to challenge this ticket and you guys reckon I've any chance of getting it cancelled?
The ticket code is 05 which means "our vehicle has overstayed the time paid for as indicated on the Pay and Display ticket or voucher displayed in the vehicle." Many Thanks everyone, happy new year!

50/50 on this one, it depends on the person assessing your appeal. You could state a legitimate reason why you were 10 mins late, however please note the traffix warden is only his/her duty and therefore being "reasonable" comes out the question when they see an easy target. They were lucky in coming across your expired ticket so close to the expiry time, in most instances they might inspect a car that is at least 30 mins out as they do their rounds. I do not think they wait around your car near the expiry time.
I suspect that you will not get away with it, once a ticket has been written with good reason then there is no going back...I gues traffic wardens are the most punctual people in the world (or not?) !

On what grounds would you appeal ? You overstayed your time.

No FM2R I overstayed for less than 10 minutes and don't you think its really harsh to get a penalty ticket after just 7 minutes?

Why were you late back? Child sick in a shop, wife fainted, you fainted, whatever? If you were just late for no good reason better pay. I have a colleague who never ever pays for parking in his home town and finds that the odd ticket is cheaper that the sum total of Pay and Display charges would have been

seems perfectly reasonable to me. You paid to park for a certain amount of time and overstayed.
What makes you think you should be entitled to a grace period?
If you hired a car for 10 days and returned it 1 day late, would you expect them to waive the additional charge?

You'd have to prove that the "warden" was hovering for any chance of winning on the grounds of unreasonableness, even then it's unlikely. The first appeal will probably be turned down. Look closely at the documentation and the signage (on the road and on the posts). Many parking restrictions are invalidated due to incorrect signage. You'll have to put some time and effort into the problem. You might chose to give up.
As mentioned above, Pepipoo.

The reason i got late was because my wife had an specsavers appointment at 11 but they took a lot longer than we expected because they were shoft staffed. Oh well I'll try, if not then i'll pay for it!

That is a lame excuse. You did not have to stay and hold your wife's hand.If you had said it was your appointment and the technicain took longer than usual then possibly, but not your wife. Perhaps you should blame the person who was not at work thus the short staffing problem. Please, just pay before they douple the fine. Regards Peter

You should have either allowed for an over-run, and put more in the machine for more time, or left 'er indoors to go and get another ticket for the extra time.

As galling as it is to receive a ticket, just cough the money up, move on and live the rest of your life in health and happiness.
