Some diagnostics are carried out with ignition off and some with ignition on but I'm talking diagnostics prior to Eobd.

When engaging 1st gear from cold and setting off I am getting a knocking/clocking noise(not very loud) fom my 8 month old MIcra. It does not make the noise in any other gear even when cold.
However after a couple of miles or when the engine is warmed up the noise disappears altogether.
I called into my local dealership to query the problem and ask if it was serious but only received the standard have not got a clue, you will have to book it in sir.
When questioned it the warranty covered it again a stock answer - it probably will
I have too concerns- it only makes the noise when cold,so if they check it straight away they probably will not hear it as the engine will still be warm and secondly they may try to con me and charge me.
Anybody any ideas as to what could be causing the noise and why it is only in 1st gear it makes it and then disappears when warm.
I would appreciate any quick replies as it is in this Friday 29/12/06.
thanks Read more

Hi Yall,

Hope you had a good xmas.

Just a bit of advice really.

My car seems to have a bit of a clunky front end. When going over speed bumps or doing low speed turns, I get a clunky feel somewhere from the font suspension. I?m going to take both wheels off this weekend and have a look and check for any looseness within the strut and drive shafts. Also get a vibrating when on motorway and braking at motorway speeds, new discs and pads, new tyres and balancing made no difference.

Also taking up drive in gear is bit clunky and setting off. Car is driveable and just want to be prepared if any work is needed.

Is there any where in particular I need to check?

Bushes
Front discs and pads
New tyres and balanced

All changed this year 6 month ago for MOT made no difference.

Any info needed please ask, any suggestions appreciated.

Car is Audi 80 2.0E 93?L 125000 Miles

Thanks for all your replies, hope y'all had good new year

Due to a busy new year, sorry for not getting back to you earlier.

I checked all the areas that you all suggested, all seemed solid with no movement

That was lower strut, wishbone and bushes, anti roll link bar, spring and shocker. However I noticed on passenger side, the drive shaft had a slight horizintal movement to it, only slight i.e you could move it slightly torwards to gearbox and wheel hub in either direction, maybe that could be something? Other side was fine. I have not noticed any leaks from the gearbox seal.

Whilst travelling up to Warrington from Surrey at the weekend, I noticed several cars (mostly BMWs) with very dirty rears, and unreadable numberplates.

This is obviously a speed camera scam, but I was amazed that the police didn't stop any of them (the cars must have been in this state for some time)

Are cameras able to pick-out the registration number when the plate is in this state, or do the police not care as it's just part of the numbers game?

Any comments? Read more

My old 318 (E30) didn't have a rear 'spoiler' - that silly little bit of rubber on top of the boot. However, my father's 323 did have one. The difference to the rear-light-crud issue was amazing - his car needed the rear lights wiped off at every fuel stop, as they built up a layer of dust/dirt in an amazingly quick time.
During wet weather, the difference in the swirl of the water droplets behind the car was very noticeable.

Hi

I've recently purchased a rover 25 and it's been fine (except for the exhaust going but that can happen to anyone!) I'm having problems entering the code for the stereo atm though. The manual says that when the word code appears in the display you should press the radio station preset number 1 button. The problem is that code only appears briefly and when I hit the preset button it only seems to change the radio station instead of letting me input the code! I was ok with this for a while but now the radio spends more time off than on and it's starting to grate on my nerves a little! I'm currently getting lights on the stereo for a few seconds then a bleep followed by the stereo turning itself off.

Does anyone know an easy way to enter the code (which I have in the manual) or anything else that may help me out! Thanks in advance for any help you can give! Read more

Can anyone recommend an FM transmitter (which i believe are now legal) for transmitting sound from an mp3 player?

Initial research brought up the AudiaX 2 Stereo FM Transmitter (DGT-202) as a good one.

Any more recommendations?

You will need the Type approval number (make sure its is available) pay 10% import duty and then 17.5%VAT on the total +first reg fee(£38)+ the road tax that is applicable to your car.Bear in mind Customs also like their 10% and 17.5% of any shipping costs. All easy enough, just a bit of form filling and maybe paper chasing.

Hi all

Guess what - my 1982 Porsche 928S has developed an electrical problem (what a suprise!).

The brake lights won't come on when the brake pedal is pressed. They have worked perfectly since I bought the car, but they have just packed up (I have got the stop light warning light on the dashboard constantly lit).

I've checked the fuses and they are all OK. (Incidentally, fuse #10 was missing, so I've fitted one - to no avail).

The bulbs are fine - I replaced both of them before doing anything else.

I can't find the brake pedal switch - the one that operates the lights - so I can't test that (yet). If anyone knows where to find it, I'd like to check it.

Also, if anyone has any other suggestions / advice, before I find a local auto electrician, they would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously I can't use the car until the problem is fixed - and I love driving it, so I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms!

If it's hydraulic, it'll likely be on the master cylinder. There may even be two.

Unlike Jermy Klaxon and the late lamented Adam, i'm not keen on running on fumes, so last night on the way home I was not happy when the range on the trip computer dropped from 62 miles to zero in the space of less than a mile.

Has anybody else experienced this - the car is a Megane 1.5 dci.

I understand that fuel consumption varies and that such things have limitations, but to change from having 60+ miles of fuel and 'none' in the length of a motorway slip road is a bit disconcerting !

You need to reset the computer and the MPG & Range will settle back. You can deactivate the auto headlamps if you wish.

My neighbour is wanting to sell his Elise, they have a child on the way and also want to use the money raised to pay off some mortgage. This has got me excited since it's a one owner full Lotus service history car. I was thinking it could provide SWMBO and me some fun for a while and then we might sell it in the summer when prices seem to firm up for soft tops.

We haven't discussed prices yet and it's due a service in February so I would use that as a bargaining point. But my biggest concern is the 1.8 K Series. Is this installation any better than in the MGF/TF/Freelander? I don't want any HGF as it will always be my fault, if you follow....

Thanks in advance. Read more
