I had previously found a site that told you what car a particular registration number was attached to and now I can't track it down. It was a mainstream site which surprised me. Can anyone throw any light on this please.

My Xantia 1.9td Est has recently become bouncy, when even a minor undulation in the road surface can set the car bouncing, I think mainly at the front. Sometimes when I stop at junctions, the front is still bouncing, the car doen't bounce when a pot hole is encountered, more when there have been repair to the road and the two surfaces are not even. Can some one advise me as to the correct action to take to fix this problem.

Mrs S wants a PT Cruiser.
Yes, I know.
But, just supposing that it was going to happen anyway, does anyone have any comments upon whether to go for the 2.0 litre or the 2.4 litre?
Economy? Performance? Smoothness?
Anything else?
Prices seem to be remarkably similar.
Thanks for any input,
BR

My mifes got a PT Cruiser CRD LImited and absolutley loves it.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know why the Americans often use the word "Limited" in their car nomenclature? Is it maybe derived from "Limited Edition", but with the original meaning lost? Just curious...

2006!

What did you get?

I got a clutch! Not the most exciting present I know, but it's what I asked for at least. I'll fit it sometime in Jan/Feb.

You can decode what options have been fitted to a VW. Take a look at the sticker in the boot or in the service record. Do a Google search for "VW option codes" and follow an appropriate link.

Hi Guys

I have moved into a new build house with a carport and the road is only two cars width. The houses that have been built have carports, driveways very close to the road and therefore you need the whole road to enter and exit your property. People do not park on the drop kerb but are parking on the opposite side of the road. Unfortunately my car cannot perform turns at right angles, I cannot enter my property, a dependency is to use the road. The builders have stated they build houses in a such a way in accordance with "government guidelines" and have instructed me to call the police to get cars moved under "obstruction" - not a very permanent solution. The road has yet to be adopted by the highways department and their policy is not to paint double yellows on residential properties as it will not be enforceable.

Do I have a case to sue the builders as I have paid for a driveway which I am unable to use and no one wants to enforce the clear passage of the highway? The planning, highways and builders are all washing their hands of the problem. It's driving me nuts especially on weekends? This is not unique to my area but many new build estates where they want residents to use their driveways but not enforce the good practice. Does anyone know of a sucessful case against builders?

You will only have a case against the builder if they did not adhere to the plans they submitted to the planners. So go check with your local planning dept. If they built according to their plans they you don't have a claim against them. In fact they will just say that you should have examined the plans before you bought.
Up here in York there have been a number of builders who have been building houses with garages only wide enough for a super mini class. Their arguement was that the sizes were clearly stated on the plans--so tough...

My daughter has just bought a 1999 Nisan Micra Inspiration, which is fitted with a rear wash / wipe. The car was supplied without a handbook and we are having a silly problem, namely we cannot figure out how to get the rear washer to squirt water!

The rear wiper works perfectly, but neither of us can see any indication on the steering column mounted control as to how to make the rear washer squirt water. I feel stupid asking this, but can anyone who has a Micra please tell me how to operate the rear washer? (the front washer / wiper works perfectly and it is quite obvious as to how to use it). We have just been given the answer, which is that the stalk is pushed forwards towards the dashboard and this operates the rear washer. The action is rather like switching between main beam and dip on the headlight stalk (the end of the stalk does not twist at all).

Happy Christmas (we are about to start our cooking for this evenings feast).

Shes decided to sell her MG and get something that doesnt cost £900 a year to insure!
Her budget is strictly £5800 - her priorities are low running costs, esp insurance and servicing and something that will do atleast 45mpg around town, reliability and reasonable comfort. A diesel would suit her driving style best and she is keen on a 2002-2003 Yaris diesel - any other options?

Reliability is key here so she doesnt want a car with built in faults which from what ive been reading, seem to affect the majority of cars these days, so definatly nothing french for a start. The list of recalls on the VAG cars seems to be long aswell which is a worry.
Even the Yaris can have HGF issues - what can guarantee good service as while her MGF has been reliable, its been a full time job keeping it honest and she wants a car that doesnt involve too much checking of levels and worrying about every noise.

Any suggestions? Read more

Has she considered a Jazz ? Very reliable, very economical and practical (but not as much fun as a Puma obviously).

Is it going to be safe to use after getting the wiring hot enough to start the insulation smoking? (It's only 12, shouldn't be smoking at that age...sorry)
