I am shortly replacing the front wipers on my VW Golf Mk4, I have the substantial looking flexible wing type, dead easy to remove just rotate 45 degrees & remove from the pin post.
Has anyone any experience of an alternative wiper ( alternative to the main dealer replacements ) or experimented with replacement rubbers ?

I bought a 130 tdci mondeo in August, after reading honest john's and what car's reviews. I also had one for a few weeks in work. Then I started reading all of these tales of woe about the fuel pumps etc, though they seem to be older models. So far my Mondeo has been really good, there is no flat spot between 1800-200 revs, and I was getting 48mpg on my 15m each way dual carriageway journey. Unfortunately this has dropped as my journey to work has changed to 6 miles through town.
Has the Mondeo of this sort of age been sorted ??? Read more
>>Sorry to spoil your thread, but my Son-in-law
bought a brand new commercial transit van and he had a
total pump failure at only 15k miles. In fairness the local
Main Dealer did replace not only the pump under warranty, but
the entire fuel system (beyond the pump( including injectors at a
cost in excess of £2000.
Stastically there is bound to be some Transit probs though sounds like good service from the dealer, reckon his faith in Ford will be restored if it is still going strong at 200k.
There is a way of reseting the service indicator on VW's using the ignition and turn signals but I have forgotten how. Can someone remind me please, its the same for all Audi & Volkswagons

Had a look at several sites re the above. Site selling these bulbs warns that in some cases, fitting these bulbs can fool the cars electrics into thinking that a bulb has blown, causing ( in the case of indicators ) the winkers to flash faster than they should. I fully understand the reason for this. The site makes reference to a remedy for this situation but does say what the said remedy might be. Can anyone please advise, preferably from first hand experience?
Thank you. Read more
Thanks for the concern Ashok. I had not planned to get any, I was just looking into the possibility/practicality of changing some of my bulbs for the LED type. I certainly would not pay to bring them in from overseas.
Thanks and Rgds.

Just joined the Forum.
I have recently bought a low mileage (75kmiles) Xantia TD Estate in very good condition - has bog stadard non Activa suspension. However, on motorways mainly, travelling over undulations will induce a mild front end floating that is not present on either of my other 2 Xantias.
Ride is otherwise very good and handling OK.
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks Lee - I guessed this might be it, but good to have someone knowledgeable confirm it. The accu shere seems OK, as the clicking is pretty infrequent - also the car pumps up from cold within seconds so pump must be good.
For the time being I'll change just the front ones...
Now awaiting the diesel expert!
Thanks again.
LOL! "We know that some of our readers are surprised when they hear that the worlds largest car catalogue comes from Poland. My wife works in the book trade and he Borders group are very good at getting publications from overseas. My BIL is keen on baseball and Borders will get US publications for him.
If you go to most decent bookshops and quote the ISSN number they should be able to get it for you. Alternatively contact the publishers directly.

I too live in North Wales and whilst I'm not a great fan of Mr Brunstrom I am not wholly against all of his traffic related activities. As mentioned above, ANPR is used extensively and it appears to be very successful with the recovery firms kept busy taking seized vehicles away.
On the other hand, in this area we have a horrendous problem with helmetless youths riding one, two or even three up on stripped down full motorbikes, mopeds, mini motos etc., using cycle paths and other restricted areas without any concern for pedestrians or residents.
Are North Wales Police interested? Are they hell. Yes on occasion they will appear when a resident calls to complain, but most of the time we don't even get a response.
What makes it worse is that other forces use their helicopters or off road bikes to catch these idiots, yet North Wales don't seem interested in being pro-active.
I'm sure if Mr Brunstrom's home area was being plagued in a similar manner at all times of the day and night something would be done about it.
Given that they make up a huge portion of vehicles on the road, it seems a little onesided for cars.
My Suzuki van is taxed as a 1300cc vehicle at £180 a year, no mention of emissions on the tax form as with my parents Hyundai Coupe which costs only a few pounds more and puts out 226 on the CO2.
Is this just another stealth tax?
I had a car with 1300cc and I was only paying £110 a year.

I've just bought this car recently and am not sure if it has a timing belt or not.
The car is a 2004 model and has done 41K
Any other advice on things i should pay attention to or have changed during a service would be really appreciated.

On my last Astra, I used Wilko wiper blades £2.50 a pair and changed them as soon as they squeaked or streaked - they seemed to last about 8,000 miles so very cost effective.
