Hi,
I have a Meriva 1.7 CDTi (diesel common rail).
When cold, often there is a "blowing" or fan noise from the engine bay, at the nearside front.
It's quite loud.
I put it down to the air intake at first, but I've worked out that is not it.
The odd thing is it persists after I switch the ignition off for a few seconds upto 2 minutes.
It isn't the radiator fans. It seems unrelated to engine speed, aircon setting etc
Probably normal, but I like to know these things...
Thanks in advance Read more
Got a small oil leak on my 02 TDCi Focus - small patch under engine after it's been there all night - with all the dark mornings and nights can't tell it it's been doing this for a bit ! Checked the engine oil dipstick and there's more than enough - in fact it's right at the top of where it should be. I'm wondering if the engine may have too much oil ? If not, anything else i can look at - could the oil filter be loose ? Read more
get under and have a look
my 307 has done 18000 miles and pug changed com2000 unit (bit with indicator stalks and gizmos) cause left indicator came on after cancelling all by itself. - known major pug 307 problem cause of weak stalks in the past so new supplier used for replacements BUT-
when i went to collect there was a 'grating' noise when i turned the steering wheel - dealers clerk said it was normal but i rejected the repair - am i unreasonable to expect the same 'quiet' steering as before the repair and are they trying to con me? dealer would not say how soon noise would wear off but some rubbish about all new cars making this noise till driven around factory and onto transporters - have you ever heard such rubbish or again is it just me?
hope you can advise and help me feel normal again that such 'repairs' should not be acceptable.
cheers
ian

If you want too.
You could always ask to try another new 307 the dealer has in to see if when the COM is new it makes noises like the replacement they have fitted to your car does.
Hi
I have a 2005 Ford Mondeo and I have been using Halfords Screenwash this winter for general windscreen clearing duties. However, i have just been washing the car this morning and this stuff seems like the devils own work!!
The screenwash seems to have left staining all round the windscreen where the wipers have not cleared it and also has left various stains on the bodywork e.g near the washer jets where it will have 'sat' after squirting.
I used Halfords Advanced Car Wash to wash the car and windscreen but this stuff wont shift. I then tried Halford bug and tar remover on the windscreen (it says it should remove traffic file too) and again this has made no difference. I then tried 20/20 Cristal but this didnt shift it either :-(.... can anyone please advise me whats the best product to use to get rid of this damn stuff!
Needless to say I wont be using Halfords Screenwash again!
Thanks

I have just checked the packaging for the screenwash and even though I have been using it quite strongly there is no indication that thes would cause the problems I have seen. The screenwash has been sat in my garage for a couple of years (sealed in the original container) but I am still surprised by how much of a pain the marks have been to remove.
However, a trip to the motor factors this afternoon has yielded Autoglym Glass Polish which, along with some good old fashioned elbow grease is slowly removing the marks from the glass..... hurrah! Any marks on the paintwork are again slowly being removed with the use of Meguirs Quick Clay.
I am going to make the screenwash up a bit more carefully from now on and certainly a bit weaker than I have been doing!
BTW.. Hi Steve... have a good Christmas and we will have to dig out that Wolseley in the new year! :-)
Hi there,
My sister's Golf has flooded with water a few times. She took it to the garage, and they say there was a blockage in the sunroof drainage. They flushed and my thought that was sorted out the problem. As she drive the car home, she noted that all the car's carpet was wetted on the foot rest area (front and rear sides) juts under the seat.
Where is the leak comming from? My sister bought the car from new and whenever I sat in as a passenger I complain about a strange smell. Now it occurs to me that the smell is wet interior (like mouldy smell). Therefore the problem started from day one ownership of the car.
Please let us know where to look at next.

Ford Ka. Base model. Not remote or central locking.
Two or three times in the past few months I've found the passenger door of our Ford Ka unlocked. The obvious answer is that someone failed to lock it. And I'm 99% sure that is the case.
But there is a nagging doubt, because it has not happened on our other car, and it never used to happen.
So - I know this sounds completely daft - but is there any way that the car door could be unlocking itself? Read more
The chances are that it someone failed to lock it. As it has no central locking, it is just a mechanical lock and unlikely to unlock itself on its own. I would make try to make sure that it is locked everytime you leave the vehicle and I bet the problem goes away.
Can I add the road through Thetford Forest to the list, based on recent experience! Read more
What speed would your Saab need to be going to split a stag (and they are big beasties in the New Forest) in two?
My 323 always used to start first time. In the past week it has taken several churns of the key followed by a lumpy tickover and stalling before it settles down (which it always does). It was service about a month ago, spark plugs are relatively recent, so I'm hoping that the poor starting is caused by damp which liberal application ofr WD40 should sort out.
My question is: where should I be spraying WD40? Should I take the leads off the spark plugs and spray inside them, or simply spray everything on the outside. By the way, I'm clueless regarding everything under the bonnet, so please could any replies be phrased in laymans terms!
Thanks

DRY the ignition system like the coil pack take 1 ht lead off dry it and squirt wd40 on the connection don't worry it's ok, do this to them all and the electrical power connections to the coil pack, and at the spark plug end.
If it's the older type with the seperate coil and distributer cap you will have to remove the cap and dry that out and give a squirt, same with the coil see how you get on? good luck
Just a follow up to my earlier post..the supermarket site has just updated its web site and all 7 of these cars are shown as 'year 2006' I have checked out the vin numbers with BMW and the cars were built in November 2004. Surely this is a breach ot trading standards. I did my homework but other unsuspecting buyer swill shell out a large amount of money for something that is not as advertised. Should not this sort of misrepresentation be exposed

Sellers of anything other than cars are obliged to state that their items are "new old stock" or "shop-soiled", and they sell at about 50% of the new price.
New three-piece suite sir, for Christmas? Certainly - I'll just fetch it in out of the car-park and give it a clean. You won't know the difference.
I have had my 2004 Vectra 2.2 Sri Direct for around 2 years now.Recently it has developed a noise that I can only describe as "pinking".I have had it looked at by the Dealer and changed my fuel from Supermarket stuff now and again to BP Unleaded, but after several tankfuls of B.P. it is still the same.
It seems to be noticeable in 3rd and 4th at lower revs when there is a bit of strain on the engine. It concerns me as it never used to do it.
Any advice would be appreciated. Read more
Yes, it will be direct injection. Vauxhall just called it the 'direct'. I have the same engine in my Jan 2004 Vectra. Although it's never pinked when I run it on supermarket petrol, which is 99% of the time. However as it's got an auto box there is less chance of labouring the engine.

Check heater motor, maybe on it's way out.
