Can anyone identify the car? The sign in the wall is in Cyrillic lettering, so it's probably East European.

Don't know but it looks like the front has been cut and shut, the wheelarch isn't right. probably took the engine out as well as fitting the dolly so the horse can steer.

It looks like this Ukrainian little number - it's a little rear engined thing not dissimilar to the old rear engined Simca and Renualts. Used to see loads of them in Leningrad.

To me, the photo's been taken in Russia / Belarus / Ukraine going off the building. Unfortunately we only have the last half of the sign, and i think that the long word is an adjective - something-dershka.

I can't get the spelling right but I think it's called a Zaporohets - Russian from the late 50s-early 60s.
If I could find my 'Observer's Book of Cars' I could get it right. I guess its present motive power is more lively than the original!

Still, at least he's got 4WD now, and no problems with emissions - he puts the exhaust contents on the cabbages...
|
4WD? 0WD!
I'm not sure what the emissions will be like. The 'engine' will emit CO2 when the car isn't even moving!

Was going to say www.k3.dion.ne.jp/~nishi-65/LOVELOG_IMG/HilmanImp....g notice the Wikipedia reference to the Imp, too.

True. I'm not sure about horses, but some research in New Zealand a few years ago found that a single cow can produce enotyh methane gas in a day to power a small truck for 25 miles.
Puts global warming into perspective doesn't it!
|
Particularly as once the methane is converted into CO2 and H2O it has less impact as a greenhouse gas. Methane is considerably more effective as a greenhouse gas than is CO2 or water vapour.
Encarta quotes methane as being 20 times more effective than CO2.

Horses' digestive systems produce methane, but at a far lesser rate per head than cows, I'm told by a vet, whose hand has been up.....

Makes you wonder why we tax petrol to pay for farming subsidies. I thought they were unsure about whether water vapour increases or decreases global temperatures?
Anyway the main problem with electric cars is their limited range. Imagine if you took your horse powered car for a long drive. The engine would not breakdown but overheating and trouble starting would become common problems.
